  • you were my private guitar teacher for the 5 week summer program berklee fyi

  • dude i dont get it...

  • What about the RIGHT HAND??

  • @ROCKSTARCRANE what do you mean "what about the right hand?" you pick the strings dur dur

  • i enjoy ur lessons and can tell ur good on the guitar but why make the video 1 minute long...take ur time and show how to play it if ur gonna call it a lesson

  • @SpadesFLush13 That's not for you to decide. This is an excerpt from a series of lessons that was done by Berklee.

  • soul is when u play like ure drunk in love with the music..altho it doesnt dound great to ppl,it just sound perfect to u..:)

  • the majority of the people dont know to compare a guitarrist with soul to one without it

  • Sorry guys. School teaches you to use the instrument(tool). Soul or not you have to know how to use it. Your soul dictates how you play after you've learned.

  • God I love BERKLEE Schhol of music!!

    Great Guitar Lessons!!

  • thats a neat trick it'll help lots with righting a riff driven song

  • wow 83 thousand views in a month

  • it is two years! not a month!!!

  • look at the date...

  • 13 months... lmao

  • yeah, playing guitar is not something you learn in a school like math or physics, guitar playing comes from the soul.

Son IMO, there are no professional or maseter guitarists, only more technically qualified, like workers on a factory.

They are just trying to emulate thw things that a person with soul can do.

  • lol

because guitar virtuosos have no soul

and you can't play from the soul if you don't even know what ur doing

  • elcrisis, I disagree completely. Just because you learn how to play guitar in a school doesn't mean that you can't play with soul.

Studying and formal training gives you a greater understanding of how your instrument works; if anything it should allow you to be more expressive with your playing.

Steve Vai and John Mayer both studied at Berklee. Listen to a lot of their music. They definitely play with a lot of emotion, feeling, and soul.

  • @dann3th3manni3

thumbs up. + vinnie colaiuta studied at berklee for any drummers out there

  • Can anyone tell me the pattern coming back up or descending please....I can't seem to get it coming down

  • I appreciate those who aim to share and teach. I can't believe the negatives assholes who bother commenting on these lessons. If you are that good why did you bother linking into the video. Keep your negative comments to yourself. This guy is not on here trying to show everyone how he can play. It's tips. Thanks for posting.

  • I couldn't agree more...

  • its like playing a sport u dont expect to make it pro u just play for fun. some people do try to make it pro.

  • i agree with him a lot, guitars a lot of fun and i love it but something that bugs me is a lot of ppl who play it or try to learn it seems like they just wanna play songs off tabs

and nothing wrong with that tabs are nice, but i find it annoying when people say they wanna jam and then all they can do is parts of songs they learned off tabs

how bout we make something up? nah sorry i can only do smoke on the water

  • I totally agree, im self taught and have been playing for 4 years and found all of my rhythm and stlye myself without being told. Its more fun to just come up with things yourself and have a mess around.

  • Everyone wants to learn guitar lmao, im not knocking the guitars but most people learning how to play are mostly mindless simpletons- who wanna be rockstars ;/

  • haha mojority.

i for one play guitar because its fun, relaxing, and im gonna go to college for jazz studies in guitar(rhythym) saxophone(melodies) and trumpet (lead solo.)

but yeah most play guitar hero too much. haha.

  • True to some extent, but it's a phase and if you don't grow out of it and discover more about the guitar, you quit playing.

I started when i was 15, loving Jimi Hendrix's playing and wanting to play like him.

I'm now 46 but he is still an inspiration.

  • its hard not to have fantasies about it tho, people say "wow your really good, are you in a band?" and i always find it hard to say no (to somebody who asks me to join, because id love to be a rockstar lol) because i understand the music industry now is for bitchy teenagers who really have no talent

  • high five

  • That's the mainstream music industry. There's stil a lot of good music out there.

  • You are damn right. There are small labels such as InsideOut music that have fantastic musicianship all the way around.

  • Thank-you.

  • its all douchey pretty boys with guitars now, i miss the 90's and early 2000's when music was actually good

  • 10 years ago people were saying the same about 80's and early 90's. :P

  • Dude i couldnt agree more with the last sentance

No talent and just for the money

  • Hell yes. I'm 40 years old and I still want to be a rock star! =)

  • Just quit your bitching, all of you, and play your instruments!

  • not everybody wants to be rock stars it like one of my lyrics- everybody's trying to be the star of the show, while i'm just trying to have a show....

  • goofy lyrics

  • Whats wrong with wanting to be some1?

U telling me you would simply ignore the chance if you ever had one?

Some people spend ridiculously too much time on guitar for them to play only for fun.

  • well like u said.. its for fun.. thats why they do it.. because its FUN!!! duh

  • Well i Broke My Pinky Playing FootBall Had Surgery and its healed Crooked and it can only move in one direction and its weaker than before there isnt any possible way it can be used for Bass(since i play bass) will this make my playing suffer later down the road?

  • i know that many guitarist does'nt use their pinky as the "feeling" it is not as good as in the rest of the fingers, bass is harder though, but give it a try just playing with three fingers, may be stretchy at first, but if you got long fingers you may just work it out

  • I broke my pinky on my left hand as well. Practice with it everyday as long as your doctor says it's ready. It will take time, but it will be better than before if you use it a lot.

  • try to search about django reindhart. and compare to your condition. you still can be a great bassist, even if u lose 1 more finger. Don't give up!

  • A minor pentatonic

  • nice!!!

  • that is an ascending and descending scale did you hear the ascending and descending part of the scale

  • brutal

  • dude can someone message me and tell me what scale this is called

  • looks like Pentatonic

  • It's an A major Pentatonic scale

  • It is A minor pentatonic. A C D E G A and so forth...

  • a minor

  • a minor dude

  • me2231000 its an A minor pentatonic scale... not a major one like alemarp said. It's definetely minor pentatonic

  • hmm lil confusin wish he said like what fingers hit when because its hard to tell form this camera angle

  • Question, are these groupings kind of like ways to shred the scale. like you know when you play it fast and use hammerons(well this how i do it) i do like groups of three like say E 12 fret pentatnoic box i do ege ded bdb notes groups like that pretty basic decending triplits. but ya like all these groupings he shows us can i do pretty much the same thing. get that like shred kinda sound when i play em fast?

  • He said A minor pentatonic, and hes playing in 5th position. so standard tuning.

    (EADGBe)

  • basic a scale

  • Isnt that basic tuning lol

  • sounds like its tuned to seek and destroy from metallica a long time ago

  • UMM....????
