  • taco!..i said it, nuke me McFly

  • i always thionk of my late dad when i hear this voice. hje loved this song. by way who played guitar and drums on his records?

  • My Dad intodruced me to Johnny's music when I was 10 years old, back in 1974. I became a guitar player because of guys like Johnny Horton, Johnny Cash and Marty Robbins.

  • @ catalina actually most modern country has traces of his rockabilly style (which he developed after meeting elvis presley)

  • Its sad that he is not in the country music hall of fame...instead some record producer is...so sad

  • New country artists need to use this man as an example, awesome music.

  • First album I ever bought was Johnny Hortons Greatest Hits, back about 1959 I believe, I literally wore it out. Great singer.

  • I love Johnny Horton, Thank you for posting his music, my dad seen him in concert when he was much younger, ole george can do this song pretty well too.

  • who are you, gary? the hayrides were great........got any music of yer own i can hear?

  • My brothers and I opened for Johnny at a stage show in '59. He was very nice to us and his mgr. Tillman Franks got us on the Louisiana Hayride. He was killed about 6 months after. RIP Johnny, great music...

  • This song takes me back to when I was ten, listening to Johnny Horton for hours with my daddy. I miss him so much. Melanoma is cruel. RIP Daddy, 12/23/60-7/10/10

    Love Forever,

    Your Sweetie

  • love it!!

  • I loved the guitar music in his earlier songs....not too fond of his later music though. Some of it was just too pop sounding for me.

  • @flashbell whats the point of sniffing out offensive language??? if nobody notices the profanity and all that then its of no harm right???

  • Personally i think josh turner's version is better but this guy is good too :)

  • @themanfromlamancha You're kidding right? Johnny Horton wrote this song when Josh Turner was just a sparkle in his daddy's eyes... you can't compare contemporary versions to the original...

  • @000jpg000 just because johnny hortonwrote this song it doesnt mean his version is better...after all thats like sayin the first car ever made is better than a porsche made today ;)

  • @000jpg000 I love Johny,But Josh kicked butt!

  • one of the greats of Country maybe the greatset

  • I'm only 43 and I grew up listening to johnny horton

  • This is a great song!!! :D

  • I'm only 20 but I grew up listening to johnny horton

  • nice song

  • nice song

  • At age 14, I was attending Green Acres Jr. High School in Shreveport, Louisiana when Johnny Horton died. I remember well the funeral being held at a funeral home within sight...just up the street from our school. We saw John Wayne and a number of other well known country personalities drive up to pay their last respects. I truly liked and enjoyed Johnny...it's a shame he went out as he did. George Jones does a pretty good cover of "I'm a One Woman Man." Just a thought. Knightsix

  • @60knightsix That is so amazing that you saw that happen. I love Johnny and I love John Wayne and George Jones, you were so blessed to be able to see them

  • Another artist for any age

  • 44 here.. born 6 years after he passed away... but my daddy raised us girls on this music... thanks for posting!!!

  • I thank my Dad (ALWAYS) for my ♥♥LOVE♥♥ of country music!!!

  • did you know that Johnny Horton married Hank Williams's widow?

  • Their was a lady on Art bell radio show . she talked about a affair of sorts with johnny . and she said they were speritually conected over a period of years and they set up the time and space they they would meet at. and went on with other drama that seemed far fetched yet could be so....

  • @bettiewh They had been a threesome for many years. It was common knowledge.

  • My daddy and I absolutely LOVE this song - and all of his songs! OMG, and I'm 16!! I can't believe I love this song! :) It should be listened to for years to come - he truly is a legend.

  • @megangurlie94 appreciating good music has no boundaries, including how old you are or the song.

  • not i don't got anything against johnny horton but i like george jone's version better quicker beat.

  • I'm going to learn this song and sing it to my beautiful wife. :)

  • no one can belt it like Johnny Horton! and with Grady Martin twangin' good!

  • My sister had an old album of various singers and this song was on it. When she got divorced her "Ex" took it on the sly and I haven't been able to remember what the name of that album was, but this was one of the songs on it and I just loved it --- even at age 12 :o) I am now almost 48 and I have never been able to locate that album. Anyone have any ideas? Maybe one of you might have it ! Wouldn't that be cool !?!?! ;o) Was going to try and look for it on eBay........

  • I don't understand how people get in flame wars over songs. Just listen, dance, and have enjoyment.

    I'm replaying this, now. :)

  • oh em homey gee! XD i love this song so much!!

i'm like... 16 and i LOVE his music so much!!! <3

  • Johnny Horton rocks this version! I have also heard Josh Turner's cover of this song and he does a great job of it too.

  • my husband dedicated this to me on stage one night,,, I love this song.. a L.. thanks for posting.

  • George Jones sings this same song and although Johnny Horton is a great singer and all but I personaly like the George Jones version better because its quicker beat.

  • josh turner sings the best version thou i like this one better than jones

  • What a talent! He was so sincere in his delivery and the back-up musicians are amazing - simple , but soulful. Great song! Thanks!

  • Thank-you so very much for putting this up. Now this is country at it's finest. Thank-you so very much.

  • In response to your comment, I agree totally about the total crap that is called "country" now. It is pitiful! Watching this and then watching Dwight Yoakum do the same tune is sad.!!!

  • Guidoman, I agree country today is pretty pathetic. You're picking out one of the few good ones today though when you slag Dwight Yoakam. He's a 50s honky tonk star playing today.

    Dwight is da man!!

P.S. Are you sure Dwight does a version of this song? I've never come across it.

  • I know--I thought about it and Dwight is definitely one of the better ones although he' s not had a hit in a while--I don't think. Seems that Nashville crowd just dumps you when you get too old. Rock and roll does the same thing to their aging stars with a couple of exceptions. But, he does know and respect the history of the genre. He's not a half-bad actor , either. Seen "Slingblade"? Really good movie. And yes he does it--I think it's on youtube. Johnny Cash might do it , too.

  • @LTandDS i agree music now is nothin compare to the crap they play nowadays back then they cared about the music nowadays they care about the money

  • i heard he never made it to the grand ole opry. they saud as far as he got was the louisanna hayride.

  • He did play there a couple of times and they did want him to join, but Johnny wanted to stay with the Hayride in Shreveport. Probably not the best career decision, but a cool move. I'd have much rather gone to a Hayride show over an Opry show any day. Him staying with the Hayride might be a reason he's never been inducted into the Hall Of Fame. Nashville likes to hold grudges.

  • I have always loved this song from when i first heard it. I always use to listen ti it in alaska when my dad played it

  • does anyone know what album this was originally on? it had this and "honky tonk man" ??

  • if you want it

alot of johnny`s songs are on limewire and frostwire easy to get

  • One of the greatest - Love this song!!!

    True westworld hero.

  • Its too bad he died, he had alot of talent

  • hah.. what a sweet-talkin man ;P

..wish I had someone who'd sing that to me..

  • seek out a fine christian man from a fine christian church and you will. T

  • Yes, cause all Christian's are sweet-talking singers?? LOL

  • Luvin dis song!!!

  • i remember when johnny horton ruled, big time.

  • GREAT

  • This Song Brings Lots Of Memories.

  • haha my man sings this all the time :D

  • Lucky You! :)

  • Only God knows the talent that went out with him, I remember hearing this as a child! Precious Memories!!! Thanks for the post!! RIP

  • At least the world was blessed with him if only for a little while. The singers today can imitate but never duplicate him. Just one 'hawk's opinion.

  • what a talent died way to young

  • This will alwasy be one of my favorite songs. Josh Turner did a cover of this song on I think the album before this new one. It's not bad, but it's very hard to sing along if you're female. lol

  • Love his music. Old country is gone. Thanks for keeping the old music alive on youtube.

  • check out jimmy martin's live version of this tune

  • does any body have the lyrics to this song or know where i can get them Johnny horton is a pioneer for country praise old school country

  • Google it lol

  • Music from the beginning, no wasting spaces. I like that. Thanks!

  • Love this song....LOL

  • grew up listening to this love it

  • im only 14 but i grew up listening to johnny horton

  • @shadowcrickett right on man so you have an appreciation for real country......not much young people these days do

  • Thank u

  • Agree- one of my favourites too - we even do it live with the band

  • Awesome song, my favourite of his. This is the song I am dancing to at my wedding.

  • i grew up on a lot of johnny hortons songs

  • same

  • i like this song so much

  • All this time I never knew George Jones' (brilliant) version was a cover.

  • I listened to this song as a child, and I am only 21. Johnny Horton was just one of those singers that my parents listened to and wanted their children listen to. They agree with you and so do I. The term of country has really changed recently. And I would really like it to go back some. Like to the Don't take the Girl era.

  • nice.

  • Awesome song!

  • A great one from one of the best!

  • A Classic from Johnny Horton.

    Thanks for this.
