@MrJuha82 I hate repeat offenders, period. I'm not going to debate who is worse. I just think your comment about it being a game and not real life undermines the damage this guy did to other players. You can think what ever you want about the Nieuwendyk hit. Marchment received thirteen suspensions in his first twelve seasons. That's a disgusting record. If someone is willing to purposely injure people for the sake of a game, they're no doubt morally corrupt in real life. That, or dead inside.
@dagnyjetties players dont take their head off, please use a common sense, most of the time the hits by Marchment havent been a criminal ones but sometimes he was cheap yes i can definete agree with you. They arent monsters but i remember one pretty dangerous move by McSorley as i mean his slash on Brashs head which is worst thing which i have seen in hockey. Samuelssons knee hit on Neely was also very low.
Marchment was the dirtiest player in the game back then. I still believe to this day that his hit on Joe Nieuwendyk when he rode him into the boards was as dirty as it gets.
Calling Marchment a thug is a huge understatement. He was more like a criminal on skates. The guy was a total fucking dirtbag and probably the biggest cheapshot artist the game has ever seen.
he was a total scumbag player. He should of been tossed from the leauge. He constantly went after star players knees, Bret Hull, Stevie Y. At least an Ulf Samuelson would play physical, the only reason Marchment is remebered is for cheap shots and trying to end players careers
guys are assholes bullies here i think because hoping bad things for Marchment who was still a bad player from what i remember but shouldnt still hope anything bad for guy who was dirty player.
@MrJuha82 He was suspended 13 times by the league in his first 12 NHL seasons and his hits were blamed for injuries suffered by Mike Modano, Joe Nieuwendyk, Greg Adams, Mike Gartner, Kevin Dineen, Peter Zezel, Pavel Bure, Paul Kariya, Wendel Clark and Martin Ručínský. On February 3, 1995, while the Toronto Maple Leafs were visiting Marchment's Oilers, a hit by Marchment partially collapsed one of Gartner's lungs; the severely injured Gartner had to return to Toronto by train.[6]
@MrJuha82 I don't mind fighting in hockey. But now days when ever a player gets hit hard even if it is a clean hit they go and try to start a fight. I think cheap shots into the boards and hits to the head are way worse for hockey than fighting. I don't watch hockey just for the fights, but I also don't mind seeing a good hockey fight.
@aqinthe it have been always part of the game. Cheap moves are badder IMO but also they punishes of fightning for giving 5 minute penalty for both player but hockey is a rude game. I dont watch the game because of a fights but when i watch a single game as i wanna see everything happening on the ice.
Hockey isnt boxing and violence isnt right thing but when do happen some dirty move on the ice so the gloves drops down usually. You see a justice.
@MrJuha82 I'm pretty sure Gartner's collapsed lung felt pretty real. Not to mention the multiple injuries other players sustained because of Marchment's dirty plays. You do realize that injuries occurred on the ice don't magically go away because the game is over right?
@dagnyjetties MArchment also could to throw a clean hit. his hit on Nieuwendyk looks more about ok or accident. Nieuwendyk got hurted badly but i think it wasnt a knee or anything but a hit with clean way mostly.
@dagnyjetties i watched about 30 second ago that hit by Marchment on Nieuwenduyk, looks more accident and not an attempt to hurt him. Marchments cheap shot on Modano was very bad actually but i say Samuelsson was dirtier as/than Marchment. Marchment was also good guy because he answered for his questionable hits for dropping down his mitts but Ulfie avoided many many battles.
@dagnyjetties lol ourselves "fight" is funny but i think they dont try a hurt purposefully other players, more accidents though and more clean hits instead of dirty ones.
Hockey fightning is a part of the game, always have been and like in real life fighters get punished by 5 minute major... but in real life its much different thing though because with a fightning way outside of the rink you might to got thrown out to prison.
I still remember the seizure he had right after that on live tv. I haven't seen it in any of these videos since. I was only 11 then and it scared me, seeing someone have a seizure.
HEY KingG u stupid fuck he is canadian and ooder u dumb fuck if he didnt belong in the league why did he play 17 seasons u goof at least he would drop the gloves with anyone unlike you proably fuckgoof.
Yup. Justice. Karma. However you wanna put it. He's proved he doesnt give a rats ass about other players so why the heck should anyone feel sorry for him ? You get what you deserve.
Interesting that this happened to him in Dallas because the next season he decided to take it out on a few Dallas Stars players like Modano, Greg Adams and Joe Nieuwendyk. If it wasn't for him cheap shotting Newy, IMO the Stars would have won the Cup in '98. Hated Marchment.
Agreed. Bryan Marchment was one of the dirtiest hockey players for a long time. He loved to throw the knee-on-knee hit, and caused several serious injuries to NHL players. I couldn't stand him, and was waiting for him to get a dose of his own medicine, like Domi gave Ulf Samuelsson several years ago.
You hate to see a guy get hurt, but somehow it's hard to feel bad when it's Marchment.
Sorry, elmocoso is right. Marchant wore #26 and Marchment wore #24. He played for 3 seasons with the Oilers till he was traded in December of 1997 to the Sharks.
There are clips of Marchant scoring that OT GW in game 7 in these playoffs on youtube, and you can clearly see him wearing #26.
That's why you should never wear an old helmet. A helmet is safety equipment, not a fashion statement. If you want fashion, go shopping like a lady. If you don't wear a new, safe helmet, then you're just asking for brain injury. Stupid.
