This is an amazing song and video done years ago by Vusi which has stayed in my heart and mind for years. Unfortunately, I can't find it(the video). If you buy Vusi's album and hear him sing it you will be hooked. Love Josh, but this song is all Vusi. I'm glad it's been brought back though.
hello everyone!! Can somebody tell me or explain to me what the song's all about? the voice is excellent, the beat is good, actually it sounds like a happy song. but the lyrics confuses me..
Congratulations to you living in one of the most beautiful places on the face of the earth. I've always wanted to go - haven't yet, but you never know.
As far as Josh's description of Weeping - such a technical point to pick. Dan Heymann has a link to Josh's song on his website - guess he thinks it's good.
Watch the new clip of Josh and Vusi singing it again at the Mandela Day Concert last weekend. He describes it differently - maybe it will be more to your liking.
Said it was my last one but! Watched the new clip. Perhaps an intro should have been " This is a song I found in SA. The song is about the domination of the majority by the minority. It gives us a clear indication of what went on then and what is happening now in other places in the world. Let this serve as a reminder that as long as colour, race and religion remain as stumbling blocks to a unified world we will constantly fight each other"
Don't you think that would have had a bit more impact?
try to get hold of a book called "An Unpopular War" for some background about what the writer , Dan Hetmen of Brifgt Blue of WEEPING was going through during his naional service with the army. By the way, "Weepin g"was banned in South Afrtica

Clearly Groban lost the plot here. Weeping has nothing to do with "Peace, Love and anything else" I would think that the writers of the song and indeed Mr Mandela would have been horrified.
Plot? This song was written by a white South African Soldier who witnesses Apartheid and was horrified by it.
Josh has captured the spirit of this song perfectly. Who said it was about peace, love and "anything else'? He was fully aware of the significance of this song and how it tells of the horror that occured during those dark times -and with what ignorance the world was treated - and so easily could reflect any number of scenarios now.
Actually Josh does. If you listen to his VERBAL introduction of this incredible song you will hear peace, love etc. Sorry, I still maintain that Groban is merely singing a song with no understanding of what the songwriter originally meant to convey. Check the Sowetan Gospel Choir doing the same song. Truly inspirational and truly a reflection of the intent of the composer. Other than that check the original, you may be impressed with the graphics.
OK, here is my last comment on this as it seems that my previous comment and indeed the -6 on my original comment has placed some backs up out there. I'll keep it short,
Actively campaigned against apartheid 70's and 80's.
Came to SA in 1995 and living in Gauteng.
There are still problems but I love it here.
Groban's verbal description of the song is wrong as many people will understand.
For confirmation go to Dan Heyman's web site and ask him.
To those who heard this wonderful song when it was originally released, I would be most grateful for any reflections/memories of that time for a project I'm doing on SA protest music. When you first heard the song, did you immediately recognize Nkosi Sikelel'i Afrika? Were you surprised to hear it on the airways? Did it move you then as it moves many of us now? I would welcome any thoughts, either in the comments or via email at mlec1978 at gmail. Many thanks in advance.
As Josh stated Weeping is a song sang and written by south African Soweto String quarter which Vusi Mahlasela the man singing with Josh is a member and lead singer of the group.
Awesome song! Gay scarf!

As long as peace and order reign
I'll be damned if I can see a reason to explain
Why the fear and the fire and the guns remain.
So true.

This is written by Dan Heyman & Bright Blue, his bandwere the first to perform it.
Wiki the info.
Have a search here for Bright Blue - Weeping.
Other nice versions of this classic track that are up on youtube are by the Soweto Gospel Choir, & Qkumba Zoo.
Search them & have a listen.
