Just watched this film on TV, I wondered what you would think of this Tony and am so glad you put this video up. Disappointing for me as it is not as I remembered it either and I was just a listener. But it at least gives an insight as to how "naughty" it was to broadcast and listen to that nasty rock/pop music back then. Perhaps you should make a film. I remember fondly Caroline and getting up early to listen to you open Radio 1 on my 7 Transistor radio. You are and always will be the No1.
The film was a great feel good fun film.. I do remember some of the pirate stations like Big L (Radio London), Caroline, Radio City- I can't say I remember Swinging Radio at all (was to young?).
The thing is, it was a great time to be growing up with what still seems to have all the fantastic happy music thats just not around on todays music radio...
I would be more than happy to see another film like this one.. What about doing it Tony ?
'The Boat that Rocked' was not only completely inaccurate, it was a total disappointment. The music is the only good bit - even if often played in the wrong date order - but you don't need to see a film for that...
I think Tony is being tactful here when talking about "The Boat that rocked"
The film was a complete disappointment for someone like me who remembers the pirates pre-1967.
In fact it was just a series of nob gags!
Am i right in thinking that in the 1970's/80's one DJ on Radio Caroline accidently did leave the mic open when a record was playing, and started swearing. I belive it was a DJ called John Lewis who later apologised for the outrage.
Tony, if anyone should know about radio you should. Your`v always been the best and it shows, Someone like you should run his own station. Keep on playing cool Motown & Soul.

You've never, ever, lost that Goody Goody , pompous attitude.
It is obvious to anyone that the film is not meant to be an accurate history of Caroline-poetic licence is used so why be pedantic?
In your autobiography, you claim that you were the longest serving Caroline DJ, yet Jerry Leighton holds that crown-day 1 until 8/8/67-Radio Caroline North.
If you can get such basic truths wrong due to arrogantly failing to research, then why not cut the film some slack?
He's made it clear he's got 'mixed feelings' about the film, therefore he is 'cutting it some slack' surely?
If you can't say anything constructive and merely come on here to insult the broadcasting legend that is Tony Blackburn, then do us all a favour and zip it.
He says the film is good, and whether or not the film is intended as an accurate portrayal, people may assume it is and he was merely pointing out that it wasn't a true picture of daily life on Caroline.

Hi Tony, came here after listening to you this morning, guessed it was probably a lot of hard work out on the ocean waves. ''The boat that rock rocked'...Not half!
I was 10 years old in 1964 and I was that boy in the opening scene listening to Caroline under the covers, that bit was very accurate! Many thanks to all those DJs that made a little boy feel so special.
Tony Blackman. What a wally.

A very eminent person in radio said to me after viewing a preview: "there's a great movie to be made about offshore radio but sadly this isn't it!".
