Australians and English South Africans have similarities with their accents, along with New Zealanders. Maybe because they are all Southern Hemisphere English speakers.
Tell the world that English people can not understand each other due to poor accents. CAN U BELIEVE IT, BRITS DON'T UNDERSTAND BRITS. SHAMEFUL. Their accents are so bad that it shows in their spelling. Parents don't want their children to pick up local accents but still do. The school system has failed us too. I'm Afrikaans and everybody from other countries understand me and I them. Because the South African Schools teach you Oxford English.
@tantjies if people are seriously taking english classes that teach them not to have accents, then there is something wrong with your school system indeed... and accent is an accent. who gives a shit. you can say the same about irish or scottish... some of their accents are so thick to a lot of people its almost like an entirely different language. not being able to understand an accent is due to being unfamiliar with it. has nothing to do with ignorance.
