  • u know guys, I REALLY FEEL IRRITATED WHEN SOME OF THE COMMENTS ARE NEGATIVE ABOUT THE ARNIS!!!!! I'm a second year HS in Philippines and a member of Arnis Club, specifically combat type. u need that full gear so that u won't regret what will happen if u got hit by that heavy and hard stick. even my arm was got hit when i was careless and was not able to use my arm for THE WHOLE WEEK! i'm just thankful we didn't use metal or "bolo" coz if we used it i won't ever see my arm again!

  • MOVE DAMNIT!! YOU DON'T WIN A FIGHT BY BLOODY STANDING STILL! still, fairly interesting techniques

  • They should have just used live sticks (rattan or kamagong)... In our group, whenever we use padded sticks, we only wear helmets...

  • All that gear for padded sticks??

  • @Ghosthorse999 Americans.. back home all we need's a helm and groin gear.. and the padded still leaves bruises as big as bananas..

  • @justpazzingby13 Back where I live, we only use padded stick and no protection... also yes we use full on power.

  • Not sute about this. I was studying this skill for a while and have great respect for it but as far as i see in the competition the skill is losing its meaning.

  • needa support the sport of our beloved islands, people. Mabuhay Pilipinas :3

  • This armor looks like a nightmare to wear. Also i have the impression that it slows down the fighters and doesn't allow the fluidity that you can see in a "canne de combat" fights.

    Thanks for sharing anyway.

  • deadly with sticks but lethal with twin blade!

  • Arnis.. a filipino type of martial arts that continued to thrive.. way to go Philippines!!

  • Arnis it is used by Lapu Lapu's tribe they use it to fight magellan and his spaniards

  • @absolutebankai

That’s right as I understand it there was over a 1000 of Lapu Lapu's men against a ships company of 49 men!

if you want to watch a some slick stick fighting watch

escrime a la canne --- competition

    AND

    Portuguese Stickfighting JOGO DO PAU

    On the tube.

  • @Bulllseye2012 this video does not show much. watch the bladed hand, its a documentary on the fighting style, and you will eat your words. As for the 49 men im pretty sure they used guns, cause no matter how good you are with martial arts if your too far away to strike and your enemy has a gun you are gonna loose.

  • Origins From Philippines

  • Not all combats in FMA are just using sticks, they have foot work to and they actually emphasise empty-handed combat. Watch Dan Inosanto's videos.

  • Cmon use some foot work >.<

  • @johnshyt That's what I was about to say! All these sparring video's and I never saw anyone take advantage of the angles.

  • i wanna see this sport implemented in PH's school and students get to have their own stick and it's like it will be their partner like a tkd's belt...

  • Why do you use padded sticks when yo have full armor?

  • @neowneow13 Because some of the seniors can still break your bones when your in full armor...

  • how bout combining arnis with any other martial arts? XD i think that would be awesome. :D

  • Just like all fighting styles...it looks fancy when you pratice and learn....but when it comes to the real thing...it's alot of swinging and getting hit.

  • arnis and aikido are both practical in fighting but arnis is our national martial arts and also uses grappling and striking techniques without the use of sticks arnis teach fighting with a weapon or with out

  • Dam they must get strong grips

  • we must preserve our native martial arts>>>>why not join arnis in your school or society>>>>>> its a good sport??>>>

  • for the person who asks what if you don't have sticks.... it's just like saying why learn how to use a nunchucks or a sword. it's not like you're walking around with those just to go to the store. stupid question. Arnis is not just a form of martial arts, it is skill-building. in fact, you have a better chance of picking up a piece of stick/branch or some sort of weapon and use your Arnis skill than finding a nunchucks or sword on the ground.

  • YESS

    double sinawali!!!

i wanna try sparring wid two sticks!

  • wow! cool fighting styles! cool armor! now i'm very eager to learn arnis.:D

  • is it possible to hurt somebody doing this. lol

  • All they seem to understand is attack. They should practice more disarms and locks. We never had padding at best it was golf ball tubes which stung like Hade.

Usually we fought with sticks and used control to learn control however like they say stuff happens. Remy was a hoot!! You Attack Them Like This PONG!!

  • im from Biñan Laguna and i want to learn ARNIS!! pm me if you know an arnis club near my location.. thx* thx*

  • basically, the sticks are just extensions of your hands, you can almost do the same kinds of hits you can do with your hands while using sticks....

  • when we full contact stick spar all we use its rattan sticks, fence mask, elbow pad,and hand pad,

  • Could be that they have only stick hits allowed, but this would be plenty more interesting to follow with kicks and takedowns.

  • even though i agree it still doesnt follow the combat system that is arnis and specifically what these suits are made for

  • Congrats FMA people.!!

    GOOD NEWS!!

KALI ARNIS IS NOW THE NATIONAL MARTIAL ARTS OF THE PHILIPPINES

  • @@ arnis- simplicity in its true form

Someone ask you what will happen to an arnis practitioner without a stick? Easy, use your hand instead.

Punching is similar to hitting somebody with a stick, and a stick is only used for an extension of the body.

    Hard Facts.

Almost all Marine/Police/Seals use asian type of martial arts for self defense..

rather i point out 3 major artforms

    Japanese Jiu Jitsu - Grappling

    Muay Thai - Striking

    and

    Kali Arnis - Weaponry

  • i know how to use the arnis =)

learned it way back in highschool

not too good but it's a cool sport

  • very cool, is it similar to escrima?

  • yep.

  • kali or arnis de mano or escrima those are the names for this filipino martial arts..some know it as kali filipino (us, europe and some region in philippines), some know it as escrima or arnis (in the philippines)...

  • They're the same thing. Eskrima's just another name for Arnis.

  • @MolonLabe84 it is escrima they are the same thing

  • sad to say that Filipinos dont see how great arnis is... its very quick and very effective in street fights...

by the way how do they know who wins the sparring cause i cant count all the hits that they getting.. imagine if they are wearing body amor and head protector..

  • I agree. The younger generation of Filipinos nowadays prefer taekwondo and aikido. It's so sad. Blame it to Hollywood. LOL. Filipinos love to watch movies :-)

  • I agree also. I'm a 3rd year HS student and a member of an Arnis Club. I have to say that our numbers are small compared to Taekwondo. Sometimes even my classmates doubt arnis, laugh at it sometimes and ask stupid questions like "What're you gonna do if you don't have sticks?". Surely Arnis is a very under-rated sport and Martial Art. It needs to be known more and promoted, especially by us, Filipinos.

LOL yeah, BLAME IT ON THE MOVIES!! hahahaha

  • Mano-mano

  • in arnis the practitioner learn to fight with weapons then wiht empty hands, because if u learn to fight with weapons and hav no fear of them, it simplier to fight a guy with no weapons..thats the point..if u don't hav sticks u hav ur hands, feet, ur body, ur knees, ur knuckles ectera...or i'm wrong?...hehehe lol.. (sorry for my bad english)..gooo arnis...

  • @jasonpugs ---- classmates are stupid.......ask them to have a sparring with you.....and they`ll be running to their mammas crying . lol .....

  • @jasonpugs Im in merica Right now And I used to study Arnis In the Philipines (Philipino Ofcourse xD)

Arnis is actually pretty well known these days Being used in tons of shows etc

  • @jasonpugs it aint just with sticks, you can use anything you can find, or if nothing just your fists.

  • @jasonpugs but these days the movies like the jason bourn trillogy are greatly actually helping to expose it

  • @jasonpugs me too, it even gets annoying when they ask the same questions like, " what if your opponent has a gun?"

  • @jasonpugs you just tell this guy what he will do if he will not have sticks???..or he thinks he can do everything with his bare hands and legs??? and he is not human being but alien from space??..the real martial artist somene who knows the art of bare hands and art of hands with any weapon..

  • @jasonpugs

WhoaH! arnis also have empty hand techniques

why didn't you told that to them

  • @jasonpugs you know the last one that said that to me i took my arnis stick and challange him to a fight with taekwando and well... he just say he doesn't look good

  • @jasonpugs yeah arnis shoulld be better known to others!!!!

  • @jasonpugs Well at least FMA is used in the highest special forces in the USA b/c it's more effective in fighting, but more difficult to master.

  • @jasonpugs just answer them.."Arnis is not the stick, it's the art.."

  • @jasonpugs Not really, I mean it's kind of impractical.

  • strange phenomenon that people reject their own culture. why do americans and europeans study asian arts rather than boxing or something?...strange lol

  • hmm..u r right.. as a practitioner of tkd and arnis..i could say i prefer arnis...is more effective like u said... =) Go Arnis!!!!

  • im a member of IMAFP and im proud to say that i've learned a lot from my masters! it doesnt matter if people dont know and understand what im i doing! what important is that, i love what im doing!

arnis originated in the PHILIPPINES :

  • im a member of IMAFP and im proud to say that i've learned a lot from my masters! it doesnt matter if people dont know and understand what im i doing! what important is that, i love what im doing!

arnis originated in the PHILIPPINES :

  • @coolwaterdvr "The younger generation of Filipinos nowadays prefer taekwondo and aikido." Actually it's because the entire educational system and the media is directed at the USA. Youngesters learn more about the USA in schools than they do about the Philippines.

  • @coolwaterdvr Aikido Is Very effective though not just Movie wise. Ofcourse I doArnis aswell Being Philipino myself xD Got to keep up with tradition xD

  • @coolwaterdvr Pretty sure everyone likes to watch movies.

  • nice sparring

  • When it's a real arnis tournament they only wear a protective head gear and body gear. No pads on arms and legs...

But in sparring it's like this full body protective gear

  • Very cool. That's a tough workout. Though, you can't call it full contact if the stick never touches skin. It's clear that you can't do real stick sparring, but a more accurate title is padded stick sparring with full WEKAF armor, Right?

  • There are several levels of sparring that the students do depending on their own individual level & what i want them to accomplish.

Ranging from touch and semi contact using padded, rattan or bahi sticks with no protection. Full contact with or without body armour using padded sticks, full contact using rattan sticks with body armour, through to full contact with head gear only usually using rattan sticks in corto. RGM.

  • ive never seen anything like that b4, the guy at the end actually comes down to riddlers gym every now and trains there

  • it is very hard to atack in this suits,i know that(i am a kombatanist),i can fight like them

  • Thats some nice sparring!

  • hmmm...

  • Mabuhay Ang Pinoy Arnis! Congratulations for this good video about fma.

  • are those sticks padded?

  • Yes FMA does use padded sticks for full contact sparring.

  • @ishoawarrior well... not all FMA sparring uses padded sticks... I've seen some use live sticks, not the full size but rattan sticks that are thinner, but still packs a painful blow.... even wearing armor the sticks can still bruise you

  • @ishoawarrior

Not all, we dont use padded sticks in Doce Pares Eskrima and have the same protection equipment

  • @ishoawarrior Not the real fighters in Cebu. No padding ever in their training--if you look hard you can see them in Eskrimadors and Bladed Hand

  • yes its padded their still practicing...

  • OMG... Thats got to hurt!!

    :)
