Scorpion kick is a kick that launches from the BACK using one leg for balance while holding onto opponents wrists with each hand, it almost looks like Yoga in a way...the sole hits the person in the face...like when a Scorpion uses it's Pincers to hold onto the prey while injecting venom through it's tail...Commonly seen in Kung Fu, but never seen it in Tae Kwon Do...

This is actually a variation. Flying scorpion kick looks like that. He didn't execute it flawlessly. But it is a legit kick as well, when he lands like that. It is how a scorpion pose would be. Just saying.It's taught here as well.

Now..if u begin to add in the factor that a traditional Karateka is far more likely to have deeper training; ie study of Ki then u can begin to draw a even bigger line between them. However again many TKD out there that get similar training. Many more compared to karatekas that don't tho. Kia/Kiap is a focus of both styles. As to the attack of stances; Thats baseless.Karate n TKD share most the same stances. Again franchise r lazy in tech of these..as they r considered formal n hold back sport.

To end with...its general only n def not a rule but generaly u could say Karate = precise attack where one drives there energy/force into the opponent or even amplifying by attacking very precise locations. Where as the force of tkd will come from the speed and whip of the delivery. Also many scientific studies done in late 90s and up show TKD kicks having the highest speed n Psi followed by Kick boxers. (again means nothing tho; it comes down to the practitioner n delivery / training).

Karateka's put a lot of work into 1 strike, power, precision delivery and tech; applications of such moves does not allow for sloppy application. (then again w/ practitioner it can) TKD applications require far more attention; and very inefficient when compared to Karate strikes IF your "being" sloppy. In TKD many schools not only teach to much sport, but focus strongly on combos n the power can b lost in all strikes. The r many TKDs that can hit just the same as karate pracs or harder.

..to add, TKD also gets a bad wrap because many of the practitioners are (ie) sloppy in movement. Where as in Karate (japan) movements are much more tight, controlled n direct. (then again Ive also seen plenty of sloppiness in both styles and countries.) So again the practitioner not the style. TKD is very popular n japan btw, as is wushu now. Imo both styles while spreading to the west have gotten lazy on the mental n spiritual side. (as with Egos; as like many of the comments below show)

Ive trained in Japan and Korea. Its not the style its the practitioner applying it... (tired of hearing this Jhoon rhee generation go back n forth about who is better.) It just happens to b there are many TKD practitioners that learn sports over the other..its been franchised this way..then again so has Karate in many ways in the US. This is not a Scorp kick. But in TKD for those that can't reach the height doing sacrificed kicks w/o being able to land after, use this fall method. IE on purpose.

Omg it is just for show. In real combat it is never the style but how u apply what u have learned to your advantage. As a fighter myself I would say to those who would want to apply a kick like this or any other it all depends on timing. You would not kick a person in the head if the target is not available an the purpose of martial arts is to use your brain an apply what u know when it best fits your advantage not just throwing punches an kick because u can. Im not saying the style doesnt have some hard kicks, but (proper) karate kicks are generally harder. then again I do Shūkōkai, which incorperates bio-mechanics etc. Personaly, ive had 3 fights with TKD people, 1 sport, 2 full contact. I got beaten in sport. Full contact I mopped the floor with them.

And that kick looks nice and all, but if he did it to a real person? It would have to knock them out (which it wouldnt) otherwise he's on the ground, back facing his opponent.
