Give it a month & you will be lodging numerous tech support calls by the way tech support is crappy, the worst. Dell is good customer service before you buy but afterward we already have your money so we don't give a damn what kind of problems you are having with our crappy computers. They make them shiny and light up so you don't realize you were sold a piece of junk at high cost. Just listen to your fan noise for proof, been a problem on all XPS models. Where is that mentioned in the specs?

As an owner of both - the Macbook's alum body is cold to the touch, has sharp top edges and is a good performer. the Macbook's ports seem to be easily worn/made loose but remember, the software is married to the hardware. I like the smoother edges of the 15z, faster boot, and really, really like the touchpad surface. I like the under-the-hood access to files and folders in Windows. It's like chrome vss firefox. Simple and powerful versus flexibility and customization.

with comparable specifications the macbook pro is $200 more than the xps 15z. for that 200 bucks you get a computer made out of real aluminum and not just plastic with a special coating on it. So, you computer doesn't fall apart after a couples of weeks. I mean seriously, your paying $1500 for a laptop and it's just glued together!?

I looked on the Mac site and the comparable 15 inch macbook costs $2960. Well its almost comparable EXCEPT it does not even have as good of a processor! Macbook would have 2.5 speed i7 the xps z has a 2.8 speed i7.

This is with the 8 gigs ram, 750 gig HDD at 7200 speed. upgraded screens. The mac 1 gig 6770 ati the xps 2 gig 525 nvidia video card.

I think you need to do better research.

This laptop doesn't look nearly as good as in person...especially compared to the Macbook Pro.

It's cheaper and you can really tell by the build quality. You bend the cover of this laptop down. The chrome trimmings ont he edges are also very flimsy...only put together by glue they can easily rip off. The bezels of the screen also used glue, some of it just fell out from the top of the screen.

I'm not a DELL person but I find XPS laptops very interesting, my sister has one of these and the speakers are just awesome, the camera is nice, it feels really sturdy not like other laptops. and I like that the material is made up of anodized aluminium and I especially love the keyboard... Going to get XPS when I get into college next year for sure

Do all you computer illiterates realize that you CAN install retail Mac OS X Snow Leopard on this machine and everything will work natively just like a macbook pro? Dell (garbage brand like HP) is knows to have same hardware components inside as MacBooks! So you can actually have 2 computers in one... Dual boot Windows 7 and Snow Leopard!

It clearly states that you can install the OS on (branded) <---- here's the keyword "branded" apple hardware... The CPU is not branded by them, its Intel, memory is Samsung, HDD is Fujitsu so just slap an Apple logo on your PC & u just branded it!

@LALOMAN18 Actually, if you buy a Macbook at the right time, it's really not a bad deal. The build quality of Macbooks is fantastic. A student discount helps. Just make sure to buy it when it's just updated with the latest hardware, not when it two years obsolete. Apple is really slow to update their hardware components.

a couple of bad faults on these laptops , the plasic trim round the edge in time will start to come off. also the lid is so thin and flexable. to be honest the dell studio 15 is a better build . i am not quite sure why dell puts a plastic edge round these .

Windows 7 is rock solid, and there are plenty of PCs with far superior specs than macs, and we can run far more software on PCs. @MugenDB2 I have Windows 7, never had a virus because I take proper measure not to get one. And I'm not talking anti-virus or firewall I think they resource hungry pieces of crap. I'm talking a combination of virtualization software like trustware bufferzone or the freeware sandboxie to execute .exe files that I think might contain a virus. As for malware coming in thru the browser I use firefox with noscript addon. Been going for 3 years now without a virus. I'm not afraid to enter any website.

I have to say I'm a bit angry. I bought my new laptop, the xps 15, on the 15th, and I had NO idea that this was coming out. My new laptop is supposed to arrive tomorrow, I wish i waited a few days to find out about this. I LOVE the macbook pro design but I HATE the cost of the MBP and I hate the internals of it as well. This seems like a good step and Dell will get many buyers of this new piece of awesomeness. I'm going online to talk to a Dell rep to see i can return my new laptop for this one.

After seeing an e-mail from Dell in my inbox this morning, I promptly called them and cancelled the order and placed an order for the 15z. For about the same price I'm getting a 1GB graphics card instead of a 2GB, and I'm getting a 500GB harddrive instead of a 750GB. But I'm really looking forward to this new laptop.

At 999 its close to half the price of the 15 inch MBP. Sure it falls short in many ways, but for this price point its rather good IMO. Two review sites clocked 6 hours of battery, and with fairly powerful internals that's good but not great.
