  • Awww. So cute! I'm looking to get a Harrier possibly, I just want to know if they would be okay confined in a house for up to 7-8 hours (While I'm at school). I Would of course walk them daily, Long walks particularly. But would a walk be enough? I don't want to be mean & keep the dog isolated you know :\

  • @BoomBoxTunes

Harriers need a lot of exercise and company. They are pack hounds and need to have another dog to play with or a lot of human companionship. I wouldn't rec ommend keeping a Harrier confined in a house that long. You also need good fencing. Some are escape artists and when the nose gets going they don't worry about finding home. Long walks are great but not enough. They are very smart but also very stubborn.

  • @tallyhokennels Thank you for the heads up!

  • @BoomBoxTunes Harriers are a wonderful breed but they aren't for everybody.

  • I had a harrier mix and the dog just about trained himself. The best behaved dog I have ever had... not at all stubborn like the beagles I've owned.

  • I like the hound breeds though they can be a pick pain in the neck; they're so stubborn and single-minded sometimes!

Anyway, I'm now too old and fat for a dog so now I've got a cat and he's a good guy.

  • that's cute but he need to moving everytime

  • your dogs are gorgeous! i am not surprised they are finished now :)

  • Thank you! All of them are AKC champions now.

  • Too weird, my Harrier mix makes the same whining sound :-)

  • where can you get harriers i really want one

  • I bred Harriers for 25 years and they have never been easy to find. It's one of the rarest breeds that AKC reconizes. All of the puppies in the litter that these pups were from are sold. Most of the Harriers are on the West Coast.

  • @patsdestroy It is really hard to find a harrier because they are so rear but the next best thing if you want one is a beagle-harrier. They are sweet dogs that are just a little smaller then a harrier but they are bigger and don't get as chubby as a beagle. You might be able to find one at a place called beagle paws. Search them up online. That is were i got my cute beagle-harrier (you can see him if you go to my channel and look at my dog videos with him in it.) P.S. They don't like swimming.

  • BTW, I couldn't care less about dog shows or variations from dumb breed standards. My sister, who was a breeder, then a handler, then an AKC judge and who now judges the judges (to make sure they follow protocol)for the AKC shows absolutely no affection to dogs. To her, they are just a business... just meat! I have no patience with most breeders for that reason. With most of them, it's all about them and their egos, not the dogs. It's pretty disgusting.

  • I'm sorry you have had such a bad experience with dog people. I've been showing various breeds for 40 years and have rarely experienced breeders, owners or handlers who don't love their dogs and their breed whatever it may be.

  • i agree to a certain extent. i cant stand a lot of the dog show people. they tend to be vain, fat, ego maniacal and just down right rude. they leave their dogs in kennels for many hours on end, and the dogs are stressed out. not all are that way though. i have 4 harriers, 2 are champs, one does agility/obedience and one will be there soon. i know 2 great breeders, and you must prove worthiness to get on of their dogs. thats what i like about them.

  • I love my harrier. It's amazing to me that they aren't more popular. Although I am not in dog business, I come from a family of breeders, handlers, and judges and I have always had dogs. But my Harrier is the best dog I have ever had in my 58 years. She's the sweetest, funniest, and most well-behaved dog I have ever had. She loves everyone and everything - especially squirrels which she catches and eats whole! I don't know what I would do without my harrier. We are inseparable.
