Mary said that this was her favorite production number that she and dick did together :] her favorite episode is My Blonde Haired Brunette and her second favorite is The Curious Thing About Women which is my favorite!
Rob and Laura had, I believe, six duets: This one; the Christmas episode; "Harmony"; "I've Got Your Number"; "Carolina in the Morning":; and "Mountain Greenery" (the last is the only one that was singing-only, no dancing). All six can be found on youtube. (Note: There was one more -- the "Doodlin' Song" -- but it was a trio, with a non-recurring character joining in).
"Why do you hate me"? "Doesn't Everyone"? Just funny stuff, but that's just great quality from the awesome cast of The Dick Van Dyke Show. I always enjoyed whenever Rob and Laura sang together. Just outstanding!
This is one of my favorite scenes from Dick Van Dyke. I love this! Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke are wonderful! Dick Van Dyke still melts my heart! Thanks for posting this!
When Rob and Laura sang "Carolina in the Morning", I thought that was about the best rendition of that song I've ever heard. This is an awesome version of this song, and quality shows like this give a person the chance to learn some really beautiful and meaningful songs. Thanks for posting!
Dick didn't REALLY want to step on Mary's foot, so he pretended to do so at 1:50 [probably against Carl Reiner's stage direction- "Make it REAL", he might have said to Dick]. Only an eagle-eyed viewer would have noticed that...
@cunnidvd I agree completely. But Judy is possibly the greatest all-around performer in American history. And she's MAGIC with Gene Kelly. Together, the two cant be beat.
@westsidestory97 I wouldn't know about Gene Kelly, but I like your user name. Lots of magic there between Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer and one of my favorite vocalists of all time Marnie Nixon.
@cunnidvd Haha, why thank you! (: West Side Story is positively my favorite musical of all time. My entire life's goal is to play Anita on Broadway. And Im not sure if you knew this, but Nat and Richard didnt get along at ALL in real life! It just shows you how great of actors they both are. Natalie is drop dead gorgeous. <3
I can't choose between the two! I love em both equally! haha..this version is so adorable.. i didnt even know there were other versions! thanks for posting! :)

I love the sublety of Mary's performance, the initial hostility moving to a degree of respect to anger.

they're so cute together, I can't stand it. In his autobio, Dick confessed to a mutual, but alas unrequited, crush between the two.

Do you happen to have "Mountain Greenery" that the Petrie's did in an episode? I loved their version, and haven't seen it in ages.
BtonMan75 2 years ago 2
It's in the episode The Allen Brady Show Presents, the episode is on youtube in three parts.

@BtonMan75 "Mountain Greenery" is here on YT. If you need help finding it, let me know. You're right. They do an awesome job on that song.
