Bring it back with Ben as the new Bill. He would be married to Heather, Rhonda and Margene. Nikki and Barb would live in a separate house next door with the kids. Nikki would periodically try to become one of Bens wives to no avail.
I admit that I didn't initially think that I would enjoy this series, but after I gave it a chance, it quickly grew on me, especially because of the wonderful acting. Sad to see it end, but thankful for the wonderful story and glad to see that Bill was still there watching over them. :)
i think that the end was just what has been expected, polygamy its just not right so the writers thinking about this gave and end to it. if the series ended with bill alive and the family still practicing polygamy with a happy ending it would be treated like hbo is accepting its practice... the key words I love my wife i love my church... u never see the neighbor being punished...

disappointing ending.. very lazy to be sure.. to bad.. Bill should of been hurt yes.but allowed Barb to do her thing and the ladies theirs... did not have to kill him
@RachTrinity I think the point was to show the women becoming strong and standing on their own. This show has always really been about the three wives and the strength they give each other and that their family gives them.
Although it is from an unusual standpoint this show demonstrates the power of hate and prejudice. Many can relate to the hardships and struggle the characters in this show go through based on religious (or any other kind of) prejudice.
What hypocrisy on the part of the modern LDS Church. May be if they took section 132 out of the D In C. Maybe then they would have really rebuked Plural Marriage. Then again if they did . They couldn't call them themselves the one TRUE CHURCH. . I would rather see people living the true teachings of mormanism. That I could respect.. Thank you writers and producers of Big Love. :) somebody who lives in Utah. USA
He's watched Bill from across the street and he's seen how Bill is doing everything incorrectly according to Mormon standards by practicing polygamy and is still very successful as a businessman and popular albeit controversial as a senator. He's maintained three marriages and raised ten children (counting Cara Lynn)
From Carl's viewpoint, he's doing everything right and yet he's lost everything dear to him, especially Pam.
Ironic that with all the people who were pissed off at him, the guy who kills him is the one who he DIDN'T have any kind of beef with and was just someone who cracked under the strain. I love how Margene says it breaks her heart that he wasn't there--but then you see that he was.
I look at the ending totally different them some seem to. To the people who thought Bill being killed by neighbor was too random. First, they had a thread going throughout the whole season how unhinged he was becoming. Many people alread guessed he would be the one to kill Bill. Second, not everything in this world is telegraphed or makes complete ssnse. Bill fought through numerous issues that could have brought him down. In the end, it was his neighbor that did it in a random act of violence.
I watched this show every single sunday and own seasons 1-3 on DVD. I really wish the finale was two hours instead of one because I would have like the conclusion to be longer. A lot of my questions were unanswered and that's upsetting, but I still really enjoyed the series finale and the song at the end of the episode was beautiful. I'm really going to miss Big Love.
this show bit off more than it could chew with plotlines the last 2 seasons. It wasn't even a showdown with Albie, but with the neighbor that was barely part of the show? Very random and rushed ending. Reminds me of when they decided to they didn't want to develop the plotline of a pregnancy in season 4 and decided to go with a miscarriage.
If they invested more time into the neighbor it would have worked better. Or maybe if it was a dedicated Grant follower, heck the Greens would work here.
@DSkehan2004 Life lesson: Never become a Moromon. For those whom do not know. Polygamy is the bedrock of Mormonism. Yip, the hypocrtic cult that call themselves a religion. However this was a great series and it told of a lot of Mormon rituals and sugar coated facts of the Mormons. It is funny how the mormon church freaked out when this series started and emailed members not to watch. Then they chilled abit as to not let people know what they are really about.
...and killed himself or went to jail. Pam most definitely did not stay with him. Alby is in prison Adeline chose to follow her crazy son so I assume she is still supporting him. Joey and Wanda- Yeah thats the only real question I have for the show. At least the women probably got his health insurance money and thats how they are living- anyway im not sure I would have understood any other ending. but I am sad to see it go : (
Nikkie learned to be a better version of herself for her sister wives and now has a good relationship with Cara-Lyn. Ben and Heather got married. Sarah is married, Got pregnant right after Bill passed which means in a way he was re-born within her child(often when people die a new child is born into the world) Bill I dont think could have handled dealing with his parents death- it would have devastated him-vice versa for lois(his mother) We didnt want him to go to jail. I assume Carl went home..
I was content with the ending-to me everything that could and should have happened DID. Yes Bill died but in the end he died a Martyr-the true profit( joseph smiths wife coming to him in a vision in church) He gave Ben and Don the best words of truth just before he died, faith comes from Love within your family. He asked and therefore gave his Blessing for Barb to hold the priesthood(therefore taking over his place as head of his church) Marge gets to do her missionary work, Nikki ..........
I'm not going to lie I cried too, loved how the show made the characters so personal to the viewers, I love the ending seeing how a year later the women and family were all still together and supportive (:
I hated to see Bill die but somehow it seemed very right. I thought it was wrapped up nicely and, yes, I cried: In sorrow, in regret, for the family and for us the viewers that it has to end. And the exquisite final touch was Natalie Maines singing the original theme song of the series "God Only Knows" in such a beautiful, beautiful way! Thanks Big Love, Thanks Natlie.
@gbsb2312 o blah blah blah ... this was bullshit. The writers spun a compex plot web that they couldn't unravel so they took the easy way out and killed him off. This finale sucked. It was a cheap way out. All this praise is just blinded denial.
Does anyone else find a bit of irony in the fact that a show based upon people who cling to a religious/ultra conservative tenet at the end suddenly seem to embrace progressivism, woman's lib, and euthanasia with the religious establishment being depicted as corrupt or evil just when Obama's progressive agenda is under attack at the grassroots level?? Who says HBO isn't biased. lol!!
2. How does Marg feel about befriending the neighbors who killed her husband. How she feels about being 16 and causing so much trouble? Who takes care of her kids?
3.What happens with Rhonda? Alby? Nicki's mom?
4.Did Carl go to jail? What happened to his wife?
5.What happenned that people don't like season 4? I haven't seen it.
Overall the little bit that I've seen I enjoy Big Love and still will buy seasons 3, 4 and 5 even though I know what happens :(
@23mrspattinson well i cant believe you spoiled it for yourself by watching this ending but people didn't like season 4 because of the whirlwind pacing. Story lines that would have been resolved over the course of 5 episodes were resolved in 2. The story lines got a little far-fetched and the series just got away from itself (forgot its roots), got political, it was just different. There were a few highlights such as the Ben/Margene thing resolved, and Sarah's wedding.
@23mrspattinson (2 of 2) also rhonda came back (married and with a kid) and slept with ben which caused problems between him and heather, then after ben chose heather, she left abruptly. Alby was put in jail in episode 9 of this season (Bill finally "got" him). In the episode before this, Carl's wife told Marge that she was getting a divorce, so maybe she left before he killed Bill? Although I would have liked some Margene development after Bill's death and the neigbors
@tristantogo I know that but I mean she left with a baby no job and no husband ya know. I knew Alby was in jail but his mom got bailed out so I wanna know did he stay in jail or did he get released, was he found guilty? Margie was and still is my favorite, but I still believe she was the cause of all the problems and could have been abit more sympathatic
@23mrspattinson oh well you said you didn't watch season 4, does that mean you only watched S5? And yah, there was some unanswered questions, i dont think marge was thinking about in that way though. anyways you should watch the entire series, its awesome.
I figured he would go to jail for 20 years or yes get killed. However, I thought it would be in Alby's hands and not Carl. Cried of course Loved the show hate to see if over
@feedthekitty23 As random as it was, I think that it just went against the grain of what we all were expecting. I can't speak for you or anyone else, but through the whole season, with everything going on, I knew he was going to die. It was just a matter of what poison. Plus it was kind of poetic that all these entities tried to take him down but it was his neighbor. I guess it has something to do with good fences or love thy neighbor. I dunno, I think I need to watch the season again, LOL
@PPTSapphire No, I think it was symbolic in that the LDS pushed the polygamists back into the wilderness; where would they go without him as their leader.
@rondabaldwin we are definitely on the same page with this series finale. A funeral would have been a nice touch- and a better reason for Sarah to come back. Maybe Joey could have come back to? I mean the conclusion to this show was 8 minutes long... it was too rushed. I really do wish there was more BIG LOVE! after watching the finale I was tempted to go back and watch all the old seasons. :)
Ok, there was rumors of big love ending so fast because of the whole polygamy thing. Can this be true ? Why would they end such a good show like this . I was so hooked !!!! And the ending was good but like other people are saying (I would of liked one more season) ! can HBO please please please bring it back !!!!!!
I kind of knew that he had to die because of the whole founding of the new church, the ostricization from the LDS church, the unjust persecution, the closure of the compound led by a brutal patriarch and when all those people showed up as his new followers (plus his vision); he being cruxified (or in his case, shot down) and then receiving the last rite from his wife, solidifying her within the priesthood.
@PPTSapphire Basically Bill became a prophet ushering a new day for day for Mormon polygamist and his wives - as well as his best friend - all represent his disciples (remember Margine went to go do missionary work). When you think about it, its kind of dope. Plus he died on Easter Sunday. The whole neighbor thing, well that was just one of the small nuances I can't quite figure out.
@PPTSapphire I want to say that the neighbor killing him was slightly hinted towards most of the season becaue he was clearly losing it. On some level, he resents Bill for not only being able to maintain and hold together one wife/family but three! In general, he was able to support his very large family and would've figured out a way to do so.
@ZaphiRocks After seeing all that the neighbor went through with his wife and his somewhat lack of ability to hold it together, its not surprising how he lost it and took it out on Bill. Not to mention the whole desperate situation becoming worse due to one of Bill's wives and such.. so yeah.
okay- so i love BIG LOVE! but this last season was very disappointing. I wish they would have spent more time on what happened after Bill died... LIKE 2 episodes more! They should have killed off Bill sooner and then showed the wives coping. and then they could end the series with better explanations... Why is Ben with Heather? Why can't we see Teency? Whats the new home dynamic like? I have more questions now then I did at the end of last season... Sorry for the rant!
@feedthekitty23 I agree, I would like to have seen more as well. There is so much they did not explain, like you said they could have gone more into the home life after he was gone, as well as the reaction of the other senators. I feel cheated, we didn't even get a funeral I had my tissues ready, I want one more season!!!! Bill can be a ghost for one season.
Until so crazy profit marrys them of to another man becuase "GOD" told them to do so..... Whil I am all for people being free to choose as they wish to live, you have to ask if the Mormon waty of 'marriage" is correct then why are the sexes splt basically 50/50? If God wanted a man to have multiple wives wouldnt there be a ration that could support such a model?
What about Niki? Barb has her priesthood, and runs the church, Margene has her charities (while leaving niki and barb to raise her three children? eh, okay) and what does Niki have? The daughter says it to Ben's wife..."I've never seen her this way"...Niki was crying, and I'm guessing that implies she is crying all the time, and is depressed? I would too, I mean the other two have something to live for, and niki has nothing really...I feel so bad for her...for ONCE I wanted a happy ending.
@JegelskerMaura the sisterwives bond was beautiful, but I felt the whole ending was rushed, and left too many unanswered questions. (Like everyone always feels about one of their favorite shows when it ends LOL)
Another thing I just noticed that kind of bugs me in the writing...when he is laying there about to die the only thing he says to his three wives is "I need a blessing..."....not "I Love You" or anything to that setiment.
@Shawshank4444 Worst final scene I have ever seen...other than the sopranos. This felt so rushed, and unfinished. The series is AMAZING, and this episode seemed rushed, and disappointing. They left so many questions unanswered, and he gets shot by his neighbor over the lawn??? Really??? He told the guy he was going to resod his lawn after all the protestors trampled it while Bill and co. was away...there were so many directions they could have taken, it saddens me this is the one they took.
@EmptyBottleTherapies the neighbor had problems for numerous episodes back...he was blaming Bill and Margene for his wife and his problems.......it was brewing under the surface.
@rextrek thank you!!!! i feel like everyone else is saying that it came out of nowhere, when really it didnt- he had animosity towards Bill for a while but after him and Pam decided to get divorced he lost it.!
Bring it back with Ben as the new Bill. He would be married to Heather, Rhonda and Margene. Nikki and Barb would live in a separate house next door with the kids. Nikki would periodically try to become one of Bens wives to no avail.

Defintely a great finale to an amazing show. :)

@PPTSapphire Why couldn't someone else kill him? The neighbor was so random... why not Adaleen? That would have made more sense to me.
feedthekitty23 11 months ago
@feedthekitty23 As random as it was, I think that it just went against the grain of what we all were expecting. I can't speak for you or anyone else, but through the whole season, with everything going on, I knew he was going to die. It was just a matter of what poison. Plus it was kind of poetic that all these entities tried to take him down but it was his neighbor. I guess it has something to do with good fences or love thy neighbor. I dunno, I think I need to watch the season again, LOL
PPTSapphire 11 months ago 9
@PPTSapphire No, I think it was symbolic in that the LDS pushed the polygamists back into the wilderness; where would they go without him as their leader.
theytd 11 months ago
@rondabaldwin we are definitely on the same page with this series finale. A funeral would have been a nice touch- and a better reason for Sarah to come back. Maybe Joey could have come back to? I mean the conclusion to this show was 8 minutes long... it was too rushed. I really do wish there was more BIG LOVE! after watching the finale I was tempted to go back and watch all the old seasons. :)

Does he get to go to Mormon heaven with his pick of celestial and terrestrial wives on his own little planet? Or some other fantasy?
teto85 11 months ago 2
Ok, there was rumors of big love ending so fast because of the whole polygamy thing. Can this be true ? Why would they end such a good show like this . I was so hooked !!!! And the ending was good but like other people are saying (I would of liked one more season) ! can HBO please please please bring it back !!!!!!
IloveBunniez21 11 months ago
Bravo & thank you for Big Love.
johnozed 11 months ago
I kind of knew that he had to die because of the whole founding of the new church, the ostricization from the LDS church, the unjust persecution, the closure of the compound led by a brutal patriarch and when all those people showed up as his new followers (plus his vision); he being cruxified (or in his case, shot down) and then receiving the last rite from his wife, solidifying her within the priesthood.
PPTSapphire 11 months ago 2
@PPTSapphire Basically Bill became a prophet ushering a new day for day for Mormon polygamist and his wives - as well as his best friend - all represent his disciples (remember Margine went to go do missionary work). When you think about it, its kind of dope. Plus he died on Easter Sunday. The whole neighbor thing, well that was just one of the small nuances I can't quite figure out.
PPTSapphire 11 months ago
@PPTSapphire I want to say that the neighbor killing him was slightly hinted towards most of the season becaue he was clearly losing it. On some level, he resents Bill for not only being able to maintain and hold together one wife/family but three! In general, he was able to support his very large family and would've figured out a way to do so.
ZaphiRocks 11 months ago
@ZaphiRocks After seeing all that the neighbor went through with his wife and his somewhat lack of ability to hold it together, its not surprising how he lost it and took it out on Bill. Not to mention the whole desperate situation becoming worse due to one of Bill's wives and such.. so yeah.
ZaphiRocks 11 months ago
Glad Bill is dead, it took long enough. That song is beautiful, Natalie Maines needs to create a new album!
rulerhel 11 months ago
okay- so i love BIG LOVE! but this last season was very disappointing. Sorry for the rant!
feedthekitty23 11 months ago
@feedthekitty23 I agree, I would like to have seen more as well. There is so much they did not explain, like you said they could have gone more into the home life after he was gone, as well as the reaction of the other senators. I feel cheated, we didn't even get a funeral I had my tissues ready, I want one more season!!!! Bill can be a ghost for one season.

This version of "God Only Knows" by Natalie Maines is just gorgeous.

So, what happened to the guy who shot and killed him? And the singer of the song sounds like Nathalie of Dixie Chicks. don't you guys think?

Until so crazy profit marrys them of to another man becuase "GOD" told them to do so..... Whil I am all for people being free to choose as they wish to live, you have to ask if the Mormon waty of 'marriage" is correct then why are the sexes splt basically 50/50? If God wanted a man to have multiple wives wouldnt there be a ration that could support such a model?
p0rter1515 11 months ago
What about Niki? Barb has her priesthood, and runs the church, Margene has her charities (while leaving niki and barb to raise her three children? eh, okay) and what does Niki have? The daughter says it to Ben's wife..."I've never seen her this way"...Niki was crying, and I'm guessing that implies she is crying all the time, and is depressed? I would too, I mean the other two have something to live for, and niki has nothing really...I feel so bad for her...for ONCE I wanted a happy ending.
EmptyBottleTherapies 11 months ago
plus Niki is wearing black, and they just came from a christening...not a color you wear for a joyful event.
EmptyBottleTherapies 11 months ago
Perfect. The most important thing in this series was the bond between the sister wives, in my opinion. Beautiful.
JegelskerMaura 11 months ago
@JegelskerMaura the sisterwives bond was beautiful, but I felt the whole ending was rushed, and left too many unanswered questions. (Like everyone always feels about one of their favorite shows when it ends LOL)
Another thing I just noticed that kind of bugs me in the writing...when he is laying there about to die the only thing he says to his three wives is "I need a blessing..."....not "I Love You" or anything to that setiment.
EmptyBottleTherapies 11 months ago
Best final scene I have ever seen...
Shawshank4444 11 months ago 2
@Shawshank4444 Worst final scene I have ever seen...other than the sopranos. This felt so rushed, and unfinished. The series is AMAZING, and this episode seemed rushed, and disappointing. They left so many questions unanswered, and he gets shot by his neighbor over the lawn??? Really??? He told the guy he was going to resod his lawn after all the protestors trampled it while Bill and co. was away...there were so many directions they could have taken, it saddens me this is the one they took.
EmptyBottleTherapies 11 months ago
@EmptyBottleTherapies the neighbor had problems for numerous episodes back...he was blaming Bill and Margene for his wife and his problems.......it was brewing under the surface.
rextrek 11 months ago
@rextrek Oh, I knew the history, and what the writers were doing...I just thought it was weak.
EmptyBottleTherapies 11 months ago
@rextrek thank you!!!! i feel like everyone else is saying that it came out of nowhere, when really it didnt- he had animosity towards Bill for a while but after him and Pam decided to get divorced he lost it.!

@Shawshank4444: Then you haven't seen the finale of 'Six Feet Under'...still the best by far.
