hallelujah!!! bro Russ singing about the Higher Power. wow!!! check out the congregation, all in on accord praising the Higher Power!!! waiting on the Rapture!!!
songs of the Lord can give life to the dead and food to the living. great post.
awesome message!!! in sept '76 i met the higher power in honokowai, maui at a little church called "koinonia pentecostal church" i've never been the same since, and the higher power leads me on day after day. russ taff is an awesome misister of music and i watch a lot of his videos...very encouraging!!! praise Jesus!!!
There's two phrases sung in this song over and over, "turn it over" and "higher power". Anyone familiar with Alcoholics Anonymous or a 12-step program has heard these phrases. This makes me believe the writer of this song was in recovery from alcoholism or drug addiction?
@rickat2077 Someone else mentioned it on another Taff video so I googled it and all I could find about it was that Russ' father was an alcoholic and was recovering and doing well by the time he died, but nothing about Russ going through that as well. Maybe he became well-versed in the twelve-steps in seeking help for his dad or maybe, as is often the case, he inherited his father's addiction. Hope that helps, but I haven't followed Russ closely over the years so I can't really say for sure.
Russ Taff kicks it righteous here, on this Imperials song. Higher Power is from the 1979 Imperials LP "One More Song For You" They were at there very best, while Russ was a member.
I remember going to see the Imperials in concert and my youth group chanting for them to sing this song. They finally did and it was awesome. Fast forward almost 30 years and my 15 year old son is discovering some of the great Christian artist that I enjoyed. I'm glad we have YouTube so they can see the people who sang these classics.
WOW! Russ Taff was one of the first performers I cut my teeth on when I first got into music in 1988. I've since become a music fan with wildly varied tastes, and I've got to say that this is excellent stuff! Well-performed, energetic West Coast/AOR; I'm tempted to say it's some of the best of the genre! The New Trolls' "Faccia di Cane" (Italian for "Face of a Dog") was another great West Coast/AOR find; it's also here in YouTube. I'm favoriting this one and will be coming back to it often!
You all are so right on! RUSS TAFF is amazing! I first heard his amazing voice when I was just 19(Imperials'). I asked< "WHO Is that singer?" I then later was so happy to hear he released his first solo album, Walls of Glass(HUGE SUCCESS!!): Grammy/Dove Awards and more. I just checked out his new website..check it out!
Russ Taff still rocks. And besides that he is the Real Deal.
Bonnie Keen is one of the back up singers, and she still actively performs and has written a book. Does anyone know the other back up singer?
Every Russ fan needs to have the DVD The Best of Russ TAff. It has some of the same songs as the CD of the same name, but the DVD is has interviews with Bill Gaither interspersed with soom of Russ' best performances from the Homecoming series.
It would be great if there was someway to still find copies of this whole video - but I suppose almost all of them have been eaten by VCR players by now.
OMG, I remember those days. Russ is still my favorite. I would love to see more. There are many videos out there somewhere. I used to see them televised. Even ones when he was with the Imperials. Man I miss those days....
I think his voice is still very very good. He just sings more traditional gospel now instead of rock and he doesn't sing as high as he used to. I think the quality of his voice is just as good as ever though.
Who is the Bassplayer?
