  • Adam did a nice job there playing lead guitar. I like how Larry, after hitting the drums somewhat quietly while the crowd sang "How long", all of a sudden, broke up the moment, and did his solo on the kit..that was cool.. great song. Who was the Father that Bono paid homage to at the end, who I think works or teaches at Notre Dame University?

  • Adam kicks ass.

  • Can someone mix this with The Cure, Pictures of you.

    Both amazing, together..........

  • @KawiKaRs You're right!

  • If it's been answered is obvious, I apologize, but what tour is this from?

  • @vanhalendreams Vertigo-tour in 2005

  • @bonavox11 1st, I read back what I put and it was kinda confusing, so thank you for understanding :) 2nd, thank you for the answer!!!

  • Marta L. E. V., esto significa mucho para mí. Te lo dedico. Saludos. E.

  • I WAS THERE AND IT WAS FANTASTIC

  • HOOOOOOOOOW LOOOONNNNNG TO SING THIS SONNG <3

  • What is the song which were old women on the stage?

  • @i40329 mothers of the disappeared

  • @i40329 Mothers of the disappeared

  • apparently 2 people are deaf... :/

  • HOW LOOOOOOONNNNG! To SING THIS SONG! Music gets no better than this, love the crowd's spirit and the band's as well. They are right up there along with The Beatles in my book.

  • To quote Bill Flanagan, 'Larry has the precision of Charlie Watts.'

  • Its so halourios seeing the Edge and Adam switching instruments haha

  • BEST. OUTRO. OF. ANY. PERFORMANCE. EVER. :D

  • OUTSTANDING.

  • Larry is so underrated!

I think the reason why he isn't ranked Ina ll of the "top drummer" charts, is because he isn't one to show off like some people *cough*Justin bieber*cough*. He actually makes beats that work perfectly with the music.

  • Great performance by Adam also, fantastic and moving solo (4.00 - 4.45)

  • Larry is the most underrated bandmember of U2, and definitely one of the most underrated drummers in comtemporary music! He kicks ass!!

  • On the Unforgettable Fire tour, in Chicago, U2 brought the opening act up on stage, Red Rockers, for this song. Bono gave an endearing speech on how U2 were reminded and inspired each day by the Red Rockers courage and hunger. After the first verse he handed the mic to RR lead singer, John Thomas Griffith (The Californians, Cowboy Mouth). Griffith nailed the rest of the song like a pro. I wish it was on video somewhere. Rumor has it the Griffith was also tripping his ass off on acid...who knew?

  • Back on the Unforgettable Fire tour, the Band brought a young band up on stage, named Red Rockers. Bono gave an endearing speech on how the band was reminded inspired by the Red Rockers courage and hunger. After the first verse he handed the mic to lead singer, John Thomas Griffith, Red Rockers frontman( currently the lead guitarist in the new orleans band, Cowboy Mouth and frontman

for The Californians. Griffith nailed the rest of the song like a pro. I wish it was on video somewhere.

  • I saw them play this in Melbourne in the 80s, it was the last song of the night. We (the audience) sang the refrain as the lights went up and as we walked up the Yarra River to the train station. It was rather bloody magical. I'll never forget it, it was more than 20 years ago.

  • @cjgrayside

Had the exact same experience (minus the walk to the train afterward) from the Vancouver show in '87.

  • A moment like this makes sure that U2 really is the best band and live band in the world.

    Bono's voice is adorable here.

  • Last few seconds show why it was once called "The Larry Mullen Band" :-)

  • @Bieber263 hahahaha wow just...wow is all i can say when i first read that i mean change ur username and maybe just MAYBE i would take you seriously

  • Alá todo mundo! Paz a vocês todos!

  • @Bieber263 says the person with "Bieber" as his username. Yeah I don't think I'm going to listen to you about your opinions on music

  • @bono778 who talks about bowl cut boy when bono is on stage?

  • @Bieber263 ha ha queer

  • @Bieber263 go and listen to your fucking bieber . U2 are better than anything in the world, and they have 150 great songs and JB has absolutely nothinhg. Long live U2.Thumbs up if you agree!

  • @Bieber263 No offense, but all the people I've known who like Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift are usually musically illiterate. You fit right in that group. Seriously, Justin Bieber isn't a musical pioneer, he's a young man that has enough looks and charm to get little girls to buy his album. U2 has, and will forever push the boundaries of music and make something new and innovative. They do an excellent job at it! That's why they are one of the best, if not the best musicians in the world.

  • @Bieber263 if i see you damn username i know that your taste of music soo bad.... please shut up!!!

  • @Bieber263 you do not have any knowledge of music so please study and listen to normal music except justin bieber!! or just don't leave a comment

  • @Bieber263 if you have justin bieber, or bieber fever, or anything to do with pop music in your username, you automatically lose your credibility in picking music. actually, you lose credibility in everything. you may be asking why. because you listen to such shitty music, and take part in something so incredibly pointless, that you automatically lose any reason to breathe, or take up space on this beautiful planet called Earth.

  • u2 forever!!!

  • I was lucky enough to be at both shows 5/9 and 5/10 2005 when dvd was filmed. May 10th was Bono's B-day and they closed with Vertigo. It was the second time they played it that night. That was kinda cool!

  • It's so cool indeed!!! ...Kostas from Greece ... tomorrow is the concert U2 360 in Athens .... I won't sleep tonight!!!

  • @ell1590 yes so true and the sexiest Larry!!!

  • I got to say Larry Mullen Jr has got to be one of the greats when it comes to rock drumming.

  • @hammerki1 yes and the sexiest

  • @hammerki1 totally agree mate larrys one of the best drummers ever and its a shame that he dosent get the recognition he deserves ! when i see these polls rating the best drummers and hes not mentioned really pisses me off who does these polls anyway ! anyway 4 me larrys the best ive ever seen

  • jacobekelundarbast, the rumor was that The Edge had a cool bass line while Adam was gone somewhere during recording so Edge played both and laid the tracks. I love this song! I always look forward to hearing it.

  • who is the 1 douche that dislikes this? ugh this is u2 at their best

  • Psalms of King David 40:1-3. Ive waited patiently for the Lord. And he inclined to me and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of the horrible pit. He has put a new song in my mouth.. I just don't like the cross... Christ true disciples never wear it.

  • @ell1590 he who starts the band, leaves the stage last XD

  • Moving

  • ThnXXX!

  • Just Larry playing and the crowd singing...gives me chills every time.

  • Edge and Clayton always switch for this song.

  • I'm completely obsessed with this song right now.

  • my god!this is amazing!

  • hear my heart

  • "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" was made for Batman Forever.

  • have adam and the edge switched instruments? xD beautiful song. the crowd singing gives me creeps!

  • @jacobekelundarbast yes adam plays the guitar on this song while the edge plays bass. and the crowd gives me that feeling too. it's pretty amazing

  • @bono778 I thought this was their best version of 40.. But then I came across this gem.. search for "u2 40 germany 1983" on youtube

  • Jacob....you should have been there that night......it was amazing

  • Yeah, I think that to! :)

  • @jacobekelundarbast they do that because the edge played bass on the original recording session of the song

  • @jacobekelundarbast every 40 they switch guitar, not only this 1

  • I love U Mullini! U are amazing!

  • @hannahewson yes I LOVE YOU US LARRY!!!

  • Best Christian band of the 1900's.

  • I was lucky enough to hear this song live in amsterdam. Wow! The crowd and the band just fuse together.

  • my god!! i'm emotionally everytime!!! great!!!! fantastic song!!!

  • is this from a movie?

  • Yes...from U2's DVD of the Vertigo tour in 2005.

  • I saw U2 (for the 3rd time in Australia) in Sydney in Nov 2006, along with 80,000 other very happy fans... it was a concert I'll never forget. By far and wide, the best band of this modern era. Ya just gotta love these guys and their music.

  • one of the greatest live performances by U2 ever

  • Ive seen U2 - 10 times around the area (Boston, Worcester,Providence) -All I have to say is that this song ,aside from the religous ties, is stunning live, you truely leave the show as if you had been to a religious event. Totally Unreal - goosebumps.

  • I have seen them all over the world.... and 40 is my favourite song ever.... but never seen em perform it - hopefully this year will be different - its the definition of COOL!! x

  • I first saw U2 in 1981 at the Santa Monica Civic. 40 has been the traditional ending song for them since 1983 or 84. And Edge always plays the bass.

  • Idd, There's no better way ! :)

  • This the best way and the coolest way to end a excellent concert.

  • I have seen U2 twice and both times they have ended with this song. I love this song. One of the many u2 songs that I never get tired of hearing.

  • A great song. Psalms 40.

  • These guys are sooooo awsome. When your bass player can play the quitar, and your guitar player can play the bass lines. Of course when you play together as long as these guys have it's probably pretty easy. AWSOME GUYS, THANKS

  • i love how the crowd starts singing the chorus towards the end on their own when bono has left :)

  • After all this time I had no idea that Edge was playing the bass and Adam was playing lead guitar on this song.

  • i found out on wikipedia :D and couldn't believe either :D

  • on 2.21 you can see it

  • Witnessed this Live in 1985 in Toronto, Maple Leaf Gardens. We sang this LOUD! ..all the way out of the building to Young Street.....what an encore!!! Fan Forever!! Genius.

  • We too were there at Maple Leaf Gardens. It was absoolutely wild with people singing and with their hands in the air. I can't wait til later this year when they come back to Toronto!

  • Larry was superb.. U2 is a living legend

    the best drug :)

  • First time I saw U2 live was back in 1983 in Hartford, CT. I really wasn't even a fan. They ended the concert the same way....since then, I have seen them 15 times live in 5 different states. Simply the best!!

  • leaving the concert that night the song carried out in the parking lot...twas beautiful..thanks for posting

  • Always is and always shall be beautiful.

  • Классное завершение концерта!!!!!

  • This is the best and coolest way to end an excellent concert.

This is definitely up top of my list.

  • Did he say Father Hugh Scully?

  • Fr. Tim Scully

  • 2:15 Bono (and fans in background) raise the roof!!!:)

  • FR, Scully..he was ill at the time

  • The fucken best song EVER !!!! U2 ROCKS !!

  • whats the name of the father on 5:19 of the university of notre dame?

  • whats the name of the father of the university of notre dame????

  • Amazing is a huge understatement to describe this song.

  • argentino de mierda muerto de hambre.. eri una verguenza igual que tus mierda de videos maricon

  • I love how larry contunues to play after the others had left. After all, he originally is the creator of the band, without him there wouldn't be a u2

  • hahah...the ol switcheroo!

  • It's a bit of a shame that adam didn't put much effort in his "solo" since it was recorded for dvd (like he did for example on the radio broadcast at 31-12-1989)

  • One of the most breathtaking U2 songs !

  • adam play guitar?

  • Yes, This is something Edge and Adam have always done for this song. You'll see it in the Red Rocks perfomance from 1983.

  • Curiously the 1st time wich I heard this song live were the 1st time that a I was in a U2 concert on 1987... a great song for agreat finish, after that them played this again durin the zoo tv and finally i heard it again the last time that them played in México City on the Aztec stadium in front of 120.000 ppl... Simply Wonderful

  • great song, it's even better live!

  • I have just discovered this video....incredible!!! really amazing.

  • for the end credits they should add guitar for adam clayton and bass for the edge because of their performance in this song

  • i love u2 but bono has lost some of the power he had in the 80's, give up the smokes bono;)
