Please understand what the purpose of triggers before thinking they are a form of cheating. If those are considered cheating, then that means any band that uses a mixing board is a cheater, because in essence, mixers and the trigger system are in the same family. The speed you hear is the drummer alone.

I was reading over some of the comments here and wanted to point something out to people. There are three ways you can make Blasts and rolls stand out LIVE. With acoustic drums, get 2 mics for each tom/snare. One at the attack head and a noise-gated one beneath, cranked up to pick up ONLY subtle hits (blasts/rolls/taps) then crank the volume to blend the mix right. OR... trigger your heads. OR get an electric drumset. There is NO CHEATING. Trigs and elec pads just remove need for mics & gating!

Yeah man, exactly. Y'know... the way I see it, it's probably easier to gravity blast on a tightly tuned snare head, as opposed to the mesh. So, if ANYTHING, it's MORE of a challenge for this guy to play on the Roland set. I mean... If you have a 120 inch snare, tuned so tight that you could bounce a dime off it and get nine cents change... then I'm willing to wager it'd be easier to roll and blast beat on it... but he's doing it on mesh. Epic. xD

You are right though you do get much more bounce off an acoustic then an electric kit and it's not as if there aren't videos on here of him playing an acoustic so why people complain is just beyond me. People even say he's shit and I can only assume that they're deaf, blind and dumb. The drum only has a basic drum line, the drums are nearly all improvised and played by feel.

Triggers are nothing more than a technology that allows a crisper sound to the kicks. It cannot speed up the delivery, Its only purpose to is to adjust the sound enough for the drummer to help achieve a certain. If the drummer wants the kicks to be faster, he/she has to do that on their own, the triggers can';t and won't help them

Do you know what fucking triggers are? They're sensors that detect each beat and feed it into an EQ processor which then LAYERS the drums with differnet EQ's so they don't sound so dead and you can get a nice full sound out of the drum.

BTW electric drums are like a giant MPC, they just use samples. Like a keyboard, you press, you get sound. Still have to PRESS.

It is. It's a Roland TD20 electronic kit, but he plays an acoustic kit live. I don't know if he recorded the Brain Drill CD with the acoustic or the Roland, but I know he did the EP with the electric kit. His acoustic set is killer though, and you can see it on the other Brain Drill videos here.
