I'm looking for a song and i've been looking for it for a LONG time now... can anybody help me out? A couple years ago, I downloaded the Chinese Democracy album before it came out and it had most of the songs, but the song "There Was a Time" was a solo song by Buckethead that someone put in the download instead of the real "There Was a Time"... and it sounded A LOT like the mortal kombat theme Bucket does... but it wasn't that. It has really high distortion. thats all i remember. anybody know?
where would he be without that Whammy pedal... id rather listen to David Gilmour trip all over himself in an emotion-filled solo than this. I eagerly await responses calling me all manner of bad words and mean names. come at me, trolls.
@goforthandeattacos Yea this is 1 minute and 23 seconds of what was probably at least an hour long show. So for 1 minute 23 seconds he walked all over the entire scale of the neck in an epic display of flawless technique(s). Anyone who isn't ignorant to all that Buckethead is knows that he is one of if not the GREATEST GUITAR PLAYERS OF ALL TIME!
@goforthandeattacos yes, of course you are right, because David Gilmour never uses a whammy pedal does he?.......( shakes head in despair at narrow minded trolls.)
@davonata bang on what i wanted to say just couldn't find the words! He's amazingly technical but technical can breach a point between awesome talent and bland noise!
@davonata doesnt have to be musical it is sound. sound doesnt have to be musical like edgar verese.. say or like horor movie sountrack in example it is usually sound experience to create tension in givin horror scene. like when i listen to this i think of super robot having shitzoid attack traveling through space. which inspires me to paint picture of this. so this style is valid. although years ago id of said the same as you
I agree with RemorfChuket up there in the thumbs up box - this really isn't his solo, but he does do this in a lot of shows where he just goes kinda nutty jamming and improvising as he goes. This guy is pretty amazing though and what you don't see though is some of the effects he's switching around with the digitech whammy pedal or a similar type pedal to get the octaves and such. The guy knows what he's doing, that's for sure
"I COME FROM THE PLANET OF THE KFC BUCKETHEAD PEOPLE!!! I COME TO THIS PLANET IN SEARCH OF THE CHICKENS THAT RULE AND DOMINATE YOU HUMANS!!! THIS TALKY STICK WON'T GET THROUGH TO YOU!!! And the stutter button doesn't help much..."
Awesome, but I prefer some...slower music, or music without overboard effects. Still amazing skill to play hammer-ons and pull-offs with such clear sound so quickly. +1 like :)
This is not a solo, this is called fuckin around (with skill). I do this kinda thing too sometimes when jamming. It also adds to his weirdo persona. Anyone who is judging his musicianship based on this video is a dumbass.
You wanna hear some real Buckethead, listen to albums Colma, Electric Tears, Shadows Between the Sky, etc.
@JLaLomia90 -BUCKET ONES SLUSH! BUCKET HAS SOMETHING SLUSH HASN'T GOT AND THAT'S ORIGINALITY! SLUSH IS JUST ANOTHER IN A LONG LINE OF JIMMY PAGE WANNABE'S WHILE MR. BUCKET RESIDES ENTIRELY WITHIN HIS OWN WARPED WORLD!
Im sorry but thats just noise, and not good noise. No talent in playing fast if all you do is play fast, still has to be tuneful lol this is awful. AWFUL!
It takes a real passion to get that good at guitar. Have you imbeciles ever stopped to think that while he's playing all of this seemingly nonsensical shred, he's pooping his pants with glory.
Either way its music and you people should be thankful that he is even playing.
hes not showing off at all or trying to be emotional or anything. He's just shredding. Whats wrong with that? Sometimes people just like to mess around and play anything, since he is already playing amazing music on his hundreds upon hundreds of recorded material, why cant he just get away from that and just jam out?
angus young is maybe half as good as buckethead. buckethead legit went beyond perfection on every aspect of guitar in like 6 genres. i dont see how anyone could get much better than him.
@myshowTM Every song Angus plays is very catchy and he's very musical. This guy looks like he has no sense of rhythm or melody and that applies to every solo I've heard by him so far...
You know how when you first start out at guitar. And you play random stuff with it but usually slowly or all over the place? Well. Take that, Make it fast and add some shitty effects in and ladies and gentleman, you have....Buckethead.
@hallio111 The part from 00:12 to 00:16 is rather awsome if not a bit mad near 00:16 however i ask you this. If you walked in to guitarcenter or guitarguitar and you saw someone doing all of what buckethead was doing would you think. In fact if you had no idea who buckethead was what would you say about this guitarist. Would you call that person a great musician or someone who is "shredding mindlessly" or "overusing effects"?
@hallio111 Don't get me wrong i like some of bucketheads stuff but some of it i just can't listen to but its just my opinion. My last comment was a bit overboard :P.
@Mrfastfap I thought you think all he does is playing stuff like this..:)
if I walked into guitarcenter and would see a guy play like this, I would think;: WTF.
It would impress me reaaally much. I would see a guy working that guitar, to see what speed he can get out of it, of course it's just fun and fast playing...
@hallio111 I just found this video a few days ago. I love his other guitar work i just think he has his maybe not "low" but eccentric points? But at least we can agree on something, that music should be fun. :)
It sounds "like shit" to you because your ears aren't used to it. Guitarists like Buckethead, Bumblefoot, Mattias Eklundh, etc. grew up in the 80s where musicians with fusion backgrounds were experimenting with outside sounds in their work. Video game composers in particular (many of whom were huge jazz/fusion fans) used such musical phrasings as well and that's why kids today just think of it as "8-bit stuff".
I wasn't answering the guy whether he thinks it's music or not. To say it's "shit" is like the lowest uneducated form of criticism by people who don't get what's going on. It's just a demonstration of various techniques, nothing more nothing less. Why does everything guitarists play have to be a song?
What do you mean by "musical"? Buckethead is known to sometimes employ unusual note choices in his solos, like minor 2nds, diminished and tritone intervals, and octave displacement to create bizarre-sounding patterns. He still strings these pieces together using the rules of music. I mean it's not meant to be radio music, but some do like these outside playing styles.
I've seen buckethead play some amazing stuff of various different genres. This is just a shred showoff. BTW, show me another guitairist that does what he can do.
@TheQxx I get that it sounds like pure garbage. Just a bunch of noises with no rhyme or reason. I don't care what skill it took to play that, it's not something that comes even close to pleasing my ears.
@jarredsutherland you fuckin idiot, I's not supposed to sound like that. goddamn you simple minded pricks. you guys are like the people saying "fake" at a video which is CLEARLY a fake. one last thing: nobody cares what youre thinkin of his skill or whatever. I can tell you 99% of buckethead fans are not BH fans because of his skill level. It's simply because he's a fuckin gread musician. Do you think he plays this all the time? no imagination.
@usalespaul59 Nah mate it is not. You need a very good and trained ear to understand what he is playing. I suggest you listen to this for atleast a 50 times over and over to get the feel of it, and to understand the intricate patterns in it. This is good solo, and he is simply riffing, playing sequences :)
@Sudharsanbluewaves the danger in listening to this crap more than 3 times, is that after that I may go and get a shitbucket for my head as well, in order to suppress the anoying sounds in my head ;)
@USMC19777 Dude... I'm just gonna let that pass, buckethead is a fucking genious, he is in my opinion miles before guitarists like slash etc. But i respect ur opinion though, people hated on mozart when he was active too so.
wow, did he really play "anything" here.Speed, speed, scales, who cares, you're boring to me & keep the bucket & mask on as well.Noone will notice the difference. Another from the Yngwie(you bore me) camp.I'll take blackmore or schenker any day over this.where were his unique & catchy chops on axle's forgettable solo release? And, we'll remember this guy from what memorable solos & hooks???
@retro7018 lol what do you mean memorable solos and hooks. He improvises EVERYTHING, except what i guess is the chorus portion of all his material, when performing live. He often tinkers with the chorus portions too, you can have your memorable scripted solos and hooks ill take organic music genious performed on a consistent basis. I only wish i could remember them all.
@guerril1337 I own 60 bucket albums and I've gotta say; he doesn't improvise everything. He composes many songs with no choruses. CCoH has tons of composed riffs, but no chorus portions, really. I can tell even some of the very fast licks on that album aren't improvised. I noticed him performing some of the Fountains licks, note for note.
He does have a lot of scripted solos, though. That's kind of how all great solos are. You practice it over and over until you get ideas for what you want.
i can do that with two hands tied behind my back... while having 3 asians working the neck and 2 picking the strings... and that they had too much coffee... and have their asianess turned to 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000% ....easy
Buckethead was one of those players that experimented with quirky guitar sounds and techniques in their playing from the late 80s/early 90s, along with other guys like Bumblefoot and Mattias Eklundh. I personally dig their off-the-wall vibe. No it isn't for everyone, but they're quite capable of producing conventional songwriting if they wanted to.
Seriously, why u guys trollin. BH is honestly an amazing guitarist. If you don't like it gtfo. It's like your all lactose intolerant and you're bitchin out ben and jerry for making ice cream. wtf.
Wow, there are some complete fucktards commenting on this video. Judging this outstanding, technical and often ground breaking guitarist off the back of ONE single video. You guys are fucking morons. You are already on Youtube, just do a search for Buckethead and listen to the range of music he creates. From country to metal, soul to 8-bit style, he owns.
This man is a guitar god and will always be rated by REAL guitarists as one of the most skilled and diverse artists to grace a fretboard.
this is part of bucketheads soul he can play any style just as all pro`s out there.alot of people have no idea how many hours of dedication to boring scales with metranomes and choosing modes and after all that your style starts to develop some will like it some not but i`m sure he likes what he hears
boring.

And, we'll remember this guy from what memorable solos & hooks???
retro7018 2 weeks ago
@retro7018 lol what do you mean memorable solos and hooks. He improvises EVERYTHING, except what i guess is the chorus portion of all his material, when performing live. He often tinkers with the chorus portions too, you can have your memorable scripted solos and hooks ill take organic music genious performed on a consistent basis. I only wish i could remember them all.
guerril1337 2 weeks ago
@guerril1337 I own 60 bucket albums and I've gotta say; he doesn't improvise everything. He composes many songs with no choruses. CCoH has tons of composed riffs, but no chorus portions, really. I can tell even some of the very fast licks on that album aren't improvised. I noticed him performing some of the Fountains licks, note for note.
He does have a lot of scripted solos, though. That's kind of how all great solos are. You practice it over and over until you get ideas for what you want.

@EpicMiroslav : Why would anyone want to play garbage like this. I sure don't.

@CountryBoyShane

Buckethead is the closest thing to Jimi Hendrix there is -- shame morons will never know because they don't actually listen to him, just one video.
Nemesis0300 3 weeks ago
Wow, there are some complete fucktards commenting on this video. Judging this outstanding, technical and often ground breaking guitarist off the back of ONE single video. You guys are fucking morons. You are already on Youtube, just do a search for Buckethead and listen to the range of music he creates. From country to metal, soul to 8-bit style, he owns.
This man is a guitar god and will always be rated by REAL guitarists as one of the most skilled and diverse artists to grace a fretboard.
