I believe that science and technology will rule overall and expose religion for what it is today. A money making institution that's used to pimp the masses.
Religion is for the weak minded. As long as people fear death, religion will never cease to exist. It really doesnt matter whether people believe in god or not. Whatever makes you feel better about your life- some prefer books, others beliefe in god.
All contrair; I think it will re-enforce the existence of God, string theory, correct or not, or any other theory's that explain creation, evolution and direction all begin and will finally end with God.
Being fairly well versed in physics and theoretical physics, I find it very unlikely string theory is correct. It may have some aspects of a correct theory, but the fact that it proposes "branes" seems rather random and unwarranted to me when everything we can observe is a particle. As far as religion, it's dying already, and I doubt it'll be around much longer. I'd wager to say more than 50% of Americans are Atheists and that number is growing rapidly.
Religion is a mortal thing for mortals. It won't change much, at all, or very slowly because of science. The reson being is the pratical application of religion is pleasure, and enjoying one's imagination. I don't think proving string theory will change the underlying motive of all life which is the persuit of happiness. some of us enjoy science. To think of god as a human who is the designer shows your inability to grasp the concept of god and nature.
Thinking that we can bring the scientific method to understanding God is a fundamental error. If there is a creator of matter, than he is not comprised of matter. Therefore, you can't 'prove' God with the 5 senses and tools made of matter.
So the only way for a human to understand God is if they discover the way God has revealed himself. In fact, Christianity teaches God has reveals himself to the humble and hides himself from the wise and proud.
you are judging aspects of my character based solely on my rejection of your religious beliefs. that doesn't seem very humble to me.
if you want to subscribe to a religion that isn't based on evidence, that's fine with me. I choose not to do so because there are lots of religions which aren't based on evidence, and it's impossible to tell which one of them is true, if any.
but regardless of your religious beliefs, i hope you find peace and happiness your own way ^_^
Good topic, discovering how the mechanics of matter and life work does not provide answers for why life exists. Without answering the question of lifes purpose, science cannot substantially address the questions that religion addresses. In fact, scientists themselves select one of two general religions, theism or atheism, or simply admit they don't know.

"Without answering the question of lifes purpose, science cannot substantially address the questions that religion addresses."
religion doesn't addresses the question of lifes purpose any better than science does. saying "god did it" without providing a clear definition of what god is doesn't answer any questions at all.
"The laws of thermodynamics do not provide any basis for life, especially complex life."
The general aim of religion is to explain why God did "it", create life, and how life should respond. It is less concerned with the mechanics of how God did it, which science addresses. The point is, that matter is not conscious, it doesn't care about being a molecule, a cell, an organ, or a living system. There's no reason for matter to randomly form complex structures and become conscious. As I put it, "If ever nothing was, then all would be content to nothing ever be"
"The point is, that matter is not conscious, it doesn't care about being a molecule, a cell, an organ, or a living system. There's no reason for matter to randomly form complex structures and become conscious."
i can assure you that nobody believes matter randomly formed complex structures and became conscious for no reason. i find it irritating when people assume i hold a position that i don't.
if you want to know more about my beliefs, you can ask me about them.
"The general aim of religion is to explain why God did "it", create life"
this statement assumes that gods existence has been established, which assumes a clear definition of what god is.
so the answer to the question "why did god create life?" remains: 'there is no reason to believe god exists or to believe the statement 'god exist' is a proposition; as no coherent definition of god has ever been established'.
So we have two equally impossible to comprehend scenarios: Either matter formed itself into ever increasingly complex structures that created conscious life for the uber-structure. Or a creator without origin designed it. Neither seems possible, and yet here we are.. If the first scenario is true, then only we can discover it. If the second is true, it is not discoverable by looking at matter and depends on revelation by the creator in the time and manner he chooses.
and once again, if you think the laws of thermodynamics are incompatible with life or abiogenesis, you don't understand the laws of thermodynamics. i suggest you read up on the laws of thermodynamics on a peer reviewed physics journal, or talk to a local physics professor about them. even the wikipedia article on this subject is adequate.

The future of Religion? On the explanation of the Universe and Man... Religion has been untangling itself from those pursuits since heliocentric theory. Religion will evolve to the

Science's nature is changing constantly and updating itself to new found data only proving its unpredictable legacy and short lived realiability. So should we discard science for not having all the answers of highly complex universe, of course not.

Master scientist or grand architect......God?. Whatever you want to call him he exists. You can see his imprint or "signature" on everything. A great example is Phi or The Fibonacci sequence.
Religion is the best code of life to be able to live together in good harmony, it is the pillar of scociety, only the old christian rome wanted control and deviated religion from it's initial duty to manipulate population and gaine power, the usual human behavior : / . throu all this god made it all and we as his curious creation only discover more deeply his master work and gave us a code of life to all discover it together, only uis have put a barier between master scentist and our science.
well what i think is every one belives in what they want and accepts only what they can tolerate. Religions keep on goin because of human society is better to think someone has every thing under control then to not know what will happen next. U know we make our own belive systems.
Anyone that knows even a hint of probability must realize that the complexity of life, even in the simplest forms, completely obliterates any attempt to explain life without a designer. Even if man continues to make discoveries that original creation for the next 10,000 years, I doubt very seriously if they will come close to understanding it all. It's fun to try though.
"Anyone that knows even a hint of probability must realize that the complexity of life, even in the simplest forms, completely obliterates any attempt to explain life without a designer."
yes, that's why scientists today posit natural selection as the designer. ^_^
@electricgolfer1 You use big words to try to back your views, but no facts. Science today only presents facts and testing theories. We dont claim they are right until they are law. But its more than your..designer can ever do..
Hmmm. There will always be the downtrodden who need a higher power to elevate them. There will likely be the ignorant that are easily motivated to become religious followers for quite some time into the future. Science in theory can generate demi-gods. The universe is destined to die. Unless we can make more (universes) it won't hurt anyone to dream about a universe after this universe made just for us :D Lets just focus on this reality first....
I think religion will eventually die out. Science is what we should pay more attention to. Science is logical, religion is not easy to believe - they are many different ones out there, its hard to beleive which one to follow. I believe in there being something more powerful and intelligent, maybe even spiritual.
When time goes on, intelligence grows, and so will science, and we will all be left wondering what to believe, because of scientifical theories.
Religions are made to give humanity the ability to recognize right from wrong . However, knowledge can do the same . I say that it'll be soon the time of unification . All of us are able to get consciousness and act for humanity equilibrium .
Science has proven many theories and disproved many Biblical theories. The Bible has NEVER proven one theory, nor disproven one scientific theory what-so-ever. Humans are genetically superstitious by nature. One day it will be science that genetically modifies the human gene to finally rid ourselves of the superstitious dogma of supernatural creation, all religions, all beliefs in gods and the superstitious writing of the supernatural Bible and the Koran. Science must, if we are to survive.
Science is behind the truth of Bible. Jesus is the King of Kings, and all science is under his feet. I know many Bible believers of Jesus that reads about science and are scientist studding God's works , but I have never meet a scientist that studied the Bible's works. There is a reason for this. Truth is truth. Read the bible, and you would of never asked your question...
It's not that God doesn't obviously have a far better understanding of everything then we could ever possibly comprehend. It's that religions have very little room to grow intellectually. You will always be bound by the word of the bible and it WILL be the unfortunate downfall of basically all religions. Not your fault. Try and be open and speculative about these things.
Kool video and interesting stuff! and funny..adelaide! HA!
OH and for religion, well all that does is seem to cause war. In a couple of 100 years there wont be any religion, but science and the search to learn more always will!
Perhaps upon reaching the level of technology as posed in your question the species will be at the singularity posited by Vernor Vinge. If so then the resultant entity will perhaps be undistinguishable from the popular contemporary notions of god.
the thing is that even if science manages to explain everything before religion did and manages to crumble it, humans are weak so we always need some sort of guidance or someone to be with when we are lonely however if we can stand strong and thing logicly in situations rather than doing what the bible tells us religion will slowly crumble and jesus will become a video game character in 300 years just like leonidas or ceaser
If science does end up proving what happened in the beginning of our universe, then I do think some parts of religion will be marginalized, but not abandoned.
I personally believe in a higher power being the "very beginning" of existence and I don't really see how science will disprove it anytime soon.
If science were to prove the beginning of our universe and be able to predict the actions of anything in our universe, some people may, like me, believe all that and still believe in a god.

Interesting point.
