Somebody please tell me how to get these classics on DVD or something. I know there's some garbage about no one knowing who owns the rights and all that but if I'm wrong or if they get it together and someone reads this and knows about it, reply to me. This was the best damn entertainment on television ever and I'd love for my kids to see it and hopefully enjoy it like I did.

The character was originally a girl, played by a girl (the sister of the kid who played Stymie). When they decided to keep the character, they got a new actor and changed the character to a boy.

say, how do you actually know if buckwheat is a girl or a boy? cuz in some episodes he/she wear girl clothes, and some boy clothes. and in one episode where he/she wear girl clothes someone said "boys are silly" buckwheat: "you said it". and in another episode they call buckwheat a he. maybe an unnecessary question but still?

@BeccaQueen95 yeah it confused me at first too. it's because originally the character of buckwheat was played by a girl, and was stymie's sister. they replaced her with billie thomas (THIS buckwheat) and at first kept the character as a girl, but eventually made her into a boy in about 1936. hope that helped! =]
