a wouldnt mind bein a timber harvester operator a knoww yhu have to do a sertin amount at college an a apprentiship a think but do yhu need to be a sertin age as well? ave applyed to dae forestry at college :D
I got a tree in my yard I need trimmed. I didn't see if it clipped the trunk off. If it does everything from first cut to trimming. Quick. Quick. Dang.
Of course the operator has to be quick also. Ain't no way that thing is automatic and counts the feet before it cuts. Program a degree into it and it could cut and place automatically. Perfectly placed logs. Or does it? I like trees, but I also like machines/equipment. Dang.
Trees pull carbon from the atmosphere, when they burn or rot they return it. Harvesting trees sequesters the carbon in the wood and prevents its release back into the atmosphere.
Well said rschiwal, at last someone with a brain, and not shouting about Green issues without thinking about what is really going on in commercial forestry.
it' is always the same problem that still occure here! when you are presenting something more interessant than a dumbass crashing his emo's face while skateboarding... you are receiving stupids comments from those people who don't have a dash of intelligence!
@sudiste59 am wantin tae be a harvester operator :P a knoww yhu huv tae go to college an do a apprentiship a think but do yhu also have to be a serton age aswell?
@rschiwal that's why it's better to burn paper instead of recycling it, you're just giving it back to the trees and giving 'em material to build more of themselves with
@rschiwal Yeah, then what happens once most of the trees are gone? Everything is that was producing carbon is STILL producing carbon and there isn't much left to absorb it! Didn't finish your thought there did ya, moron?
@idontcare80 Listen dick head, For every tree cut for timber production in the UK, it is law that you must plant at least one tree in its place. And if your tiny closed mind can handle anymore information , a young tree absorbs far more CO2 from the atmosphere than a 60 year old fully grown tree. Now fuck off and watch the cartoons on telly and leave the thinking to the grown-ups.
@mohastie Old growth forests actually absorb more carbon than new forests. There's an initial increase in carbon sequestration per unit weight with a young tree, that levels off after a couple decades - thats true - but the carbon absorption of a fully-matured, old-growth tree is much higher overall. Also not just trees, but leaf litter, hummus, organisms in intact soil, mosses, ferns absorb carbon in a mature forest. Old growth forests absorb more carbon than a regenerating clearcut.
@ewsify Your comments may be relevant in the USA, But here in the UK, we don`t just leave the clear-felled ground alone and hope it regenerates itself. It is a legal requirement to restock the old forests with trees at 2800 stems per hectare. These forests in the UK are not natural forests like you have in the US, they were all planted in the late 1940`s onwards, after the second world war, as commercial crops. If it was not for commercial forests, there would be very few woodlands in the UK
@mohastie my point being, if you want to actually responsibly forest, you'll do it the right way with selective harvest and low-impact practices, rather than romping around on a diesel-powered land-and-tree-fucker like this machine right here.
@idontcare80 Uh, moron, YOU are made with carbon. Every single living thing on earth contains Carbon. Proteins, fats, and carbohydrates are made with carbon. Did you ever stop to think why 'carbohydrate' is named that? It has to do with its chemical composition. We don't produce carbon. It is a building block of what we are. If not for carbon, idiots like you wouldn't be able to outlaw carbon.
@Lexicologist71 Duh, I meant carbon dioxide. No one is trying to outlaw carbon, but many people and organizations are trying to reduce the dependence our society has on fossil fuels, which is something that is going to have to be done soon, global warming or not.
@rschiwal you are essentially right. they have a thing going on called carbon credits and you get more credits for preventing methane from going into the atmosphere than c02 because methane as a greenhouse gas is about 21 times worse than c02. So essentialy since these guys are preventing these trees from being burnt or rotting and releasing greenhouse gases, they are improving our atmosphere. thats if this will be used for lumber not biomass
do you have to go on a simulator before you do the actual thing beacause i would like to drive 1 wen im older i saw one goin in a foreset were i go shooting
It depends on the number of products you are cutting, and how strait the trees are. You should be able to average between 15-20 meters per hour over a 12 hour shift, maybe more if trees are dead strait and you let the optimizer do all the work.
These trees were planted to be harvested 35 years ago. Dureing the life of each tree, they have absorbed CO.2 from atmosphere, so reduceing greenhouse gasses. 6 Months after these trees are cut, the ground is re-planted with young trees, which will grow again for another 35 years. Also please note, a young tree absorbs more CO.2 than a mature tree, for the process of photosynthesis, which it needs to grow. Please do some research before ranting on about green issues.

This is just terrible to watch. How quickly we can destroy living things. The forests don't need to be thinned, they need to be built up. Think about all the other life that suffers, including ours, when forests go down. We have to see with better eyes.
Thats a bit below the belt coming from an ex commission man stevie. We taught you everything you know about forestry,( fair enough you still don`t know very much), but it was enough to persuade Euro-"Disney" to give you a job. ONLY JOKEING PAL. Hows it hangin.
Obviously an experienced operator working a well planned site but the main comment is that the forester in charge must be a true professional - what a guy.
