Ghosts are the strong emotions and personality of a deceased person. The reasons why they may appear to some ppl is either, they remind the ghost of someone they knew of the past life or they still want to continue on in this realm as if they were still alive.

The super natural is not so hard to comprehend. Do I believe it exists, yes. But having said that, I do not believe these "ghosts" are the departed spirits of humans, who have lost their way or have become somehow disoriented. I also agree with Pete, that science will never be able to prove or disprove the existence of a ghost, simple because the scientific method, that is used is a tool that is not designed to explore the supernatural. Nor should it. It can uncover many hoaxes though!

Belief and anecdotal evidence are not scientific. There are lots of different scientific methods. Abscence of evidence is not evidence of abscence. 200 yrs ago no on had seen a bacteria, but they were still there causing disease, ripening cheese, and rotting carcasses.

Just because the actual existence of ghosts hasn't been proven scientifically doesn't mean they don't exist. True, their existence conflicts with ideas of how the physical world works, but the supposition is that they are not physical, but spiritual. Hence, it would make sense if they didn't follow physical laws.

there are similar stories told throughout central america - particularly in the isolated villages. people are warned that there are 3 different types of devils which can get you. they are often described as more or less diabolical rabbit creatures. usually, late night running around is associated w/ cheating on your partner w/ someone else's partner. this cheating can really disrupt the peace in a very isolated village - possibly becoming fatal.
