(wish there wasa also a gaughan version round the tube...)

  • Ed - I'm an avid collector of coal mining songs. I have been looking for two of your songs for awhile without success - "I Am Coal" and "Strange Lover Is A Coal Mine". Do you know where I can find them on CD or mp3? Also, I have others singing your "One Miner's Life" and "Farewell, Johnny Miner", but I don't have your versions. Where can I find them? By the way, I love your song, "Ee Aye, Aa Cud Hew"! Have you written any other coal mining songs? Best wishes, Tony Oppegard

  • This is an excellent version of a song I wrote when I was a teenager! I see the oral folk process has changed the title from 'Pound A Week Rise' to 'Pound A Week Raise'! Very good rendition.

  • uh oh, I think I got the title wrong because I misheard the lyrics. On another listen it does sound like he's saying "Pound a Week Rise." My apologies for getting it wrong. It's a great song!

  • Rise or raise it doesn't really matter except that if some were searching 'Pound A Week Rise' they might not get to you - which would be a shame. Good luck.
