btw 70-300 lens is slow, hungry for light and uncomfortable whilst being heavy.

Sure, it's AF-S. It says DX SWM ED IF Aspherical ø67. It has it all, exept macro. You can, however, take it very close - closer than the .38 m nikon claims.
