  • The Starliner was my first coaster! And I remember taking my girlfriend on it as her first coaster. She screamed continuously from the drop to the braking at the shed. In the mid sixties we "lost" our brother for a bit there and found him continuously taking laps on the Starliner till the park closed for the night.

  • The Starliner Front Seat! Yea Baby!

  • I'm so happy this has been saved and is coming home!!! i'll finally be able to get the credit!

  • I remember going to MSAP when I was a kid and I nearly cried when I went back to PCB last year and saw nothing but an empty lot next to Shipwreck Island. It's great that the old rides are being brought back. I really hope they get the Starliner up and running again! Let's save a piece of Florida history and let current and future generations enjoy the thrill of a good, old-fashioned roller coaster!

  • This one damn near brings a tear to my eye. The Starliner and the MSAP is burned into my brain from countless visits during my youth!

  • Is the Starliner really returning to PCB? RCDB lists it as defunct and offers no relocation info. I would love to see it in its original (or nearby) location again. If it is brought back, I hope the tunnel is reinstated! Only took a virtual ride of the version at Cypress Gardens and, while this was never a terribly wild ride, it's obvious that much of the FUN element was lost after its relocation.

  • I Was lucky i rode it at cypress gardens right before all the rides closed as well as the entire park, But the Starliner coming back to panama city beach!

  • Dude, i miss miracle strip! i still have the cup for like 50 cent refills. haha, i remember the back of the coaster always came off the track a little bit.

  • RIP

  • Was this park closed cuz I came here from an abandoned version of this and if so than y

  • oh i miss miracle strip sooo much! the little tiny version at pier park is just depressing. lol

    :)

  • @NikkiandAnthony

That "depressing" little version has saved the Starliner and will bring it back to PCB.

  • @Scioneer hopefully! that'd be soo good! they just got my favorite ride recently. I wish they'd get the musical express also. and my cousin really wants the haunted house. lol

  • classical gas? Lol!!

  • @marshalljimduncan, yeh, the original music for this clip WAS Classical Gas before YT took it down for copyright violation......and then I was able to switch that song for this one without having to delete the comments, etc.

  • Enter the Meeks, who had previously purchased a balloon ride and a biplane ride from the Miracle Strip and installed them at Pier Park. Teddy Meeks told the Panama City News Herald that the Starliner will keep its wooden structure, but will get a new magnetic braking structure and other safety improvements.

The ride is expected to open no later than the spring of 2012.

  • Teddy and Jenny Meeks announced last week that they have bought the Starliner, which has been in storage in Tampa since 2008. The couple and two other partners are spending $2 million to acquire the coaster, refurbish it and relocate it to a site on Panama City Beach near Pier Park.

  • It'll be up and running again.

Classic Florida Starliner roller coaster rescued from storage

A 1960s-era, wooden roller coaster known as the Starliner will be pulled out of the mothballs and brought back to its original home: Panama City Beach, Florida.

  • THEY ARE BRINGING IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ok New MSAP at Pier Park, you said you're looking into saving the old girl. Lets hope you can pull off PCB's most epic comeback story of all time, the return of the legendary Starliner.

  • Cool ride!!! Looked like some nice air-time.

  • it`ll never be same same, they ruined this place,

  • I used to go to Miracle Strip when I would visit Panama City Florida in the early 80's. I rmember riding the Starliner like it was yesterday. I remember going on that and anotherone( I don't remember the name) but you walk through the devil's mouth. Does anyone remember the name of that ride?

  • @mjt19741 Dante's Inferno was the name of the ride you're referring to. It was an indoor chance trabant ride!

  • @lovewalk101 Alright thanks man.

  • @mjt19741 You're welcome!

  • what great memories! I miss this!

  • Hope lots of those condo snobs are losing their ass on the real estate market crash

  • this video makes me wanna cry - i miss that park - a lot of memories

  • This was probably the best roller coaster I have been on! I've been on a lot. (Six Flags, Kings Island, Opryland, etc..) It was wooden and you had the beach plus going through the dragons mouth. I rode this thing every summery from when I was 13 to 19. It was out of a movie. Too good to be true. I will miss it being in PCB.

  • man, i miss that place...worked there 2002-2004

  • I LIVE HERE!!!!!!!!!!1

  • you guys remember the 02 tower at ms? scared the shit outta me lol we used to go to ms all the time when we lived in pcb before we moved in 2001

  • DAMMIT! Was the Starliner saved, just to be scrapped a year later? And who would have thought, Its yet another real estate company that owns her new home. I knew Land South would be trouble when I found they bought Cypress Gardens. Sure, they're not going to build crap there yet, but the new plans will make people lose interest, then when the Landmark status doesn't get renewed, BOOM! More Condos, and no Starliner. GRRRRR!

  • This was the last of the strips historical places to be entertained. After Petticoat Junction was demo'd, MS became the hottest hang out. Worked there a few years and made many memories. Iwas over seas in Afghanistan fighting when I heard the news. Gonna miss all the good times the park had to offer. Hope the Sister park doesn't follow the same footsteps. Nice videoing. Keep up the good work.

  • I was there the last day at night the closed down i saw people leaveing police were bring people out it closed at about 8:30

  • In 1963, miracle strip created the Starliner coaster. In 2004, Cypress gardens, FL built it. there are some differences in the coaster, although the basi layout is the same.

  • Great post. I rode this coaster for the last time in June of 1990...great memories!

  • I worked at Miracle Strip in 93... a lot of memories are seen at the top of that hill. Great video!

  • I tried to find the park today with my kids, ages 7 and 8. I told them of my fond memories and could not wait to share the haunted house and roller coaster with them. Well, needless to say I was surprised. That coaster scared the heck out of me once when I was young. I thought the bar had malfunctioned and felt I was sliding up and out as we went down the first and second falls. Good times.

  • This ride was so much smoother and faster than it is at Cypress Gardens. Cypress has a lot of work to do.

  • It was better at Miracle Strip. When they moved it to Cypress Gardens they forgot the best part of the ride, the dragon tunnel. I hope they decide to put it back on the Starliner. It feels like the ride has been downgraded without it. :(

  • That damn dragon tunnel is best DEAD! I remember that thing had long fangs that you could hit you if you didn't bring your arms down fast enough! F*King scary and unsafe, is what that tunnel was!!!

  • @thechoosendude Cypress Gardens closed... it is now being turned into Legoland

  • Thank you for uploading this. I'm currently building a virtual version of the Miracle Strip on Roller Coaster Tycoon 3's Scenario editor.

  • Thanks for the walk down memory lane. I grew up going to PCB from the time I was 3 years old to an adult. MSAP was always a mainstay for us through the years. My parents grew up going to MSAP as well. It broke my heart when they decided to close it down, and for no good reason.

  • I'm a local myself, born and raised, I remember going to miracle strip many times, from the time I was 5 til the time I was 20, which was when the park closed. Was a sad day when they closed it down, many good memories there with my family and friends riding all the rides. Seems all this town is about now is more condos. Glad CG saved the old girl tho, just hate the town has nothing now, except an empty lot where it was, and the few arcades, etc, when they are open. Was the best thing here imo.

  • well, cypress gardens in FL is closing down now. I don't know if they well keep her, or demolish her. It is a very fun ride

  • I rode the Starliner for the first time today on Cypress Garden's last day of existence. It's really kind of sad that it lasted less than a year, and now the future of the ride is unknown again...

  • From what I understand, the land was sold to a group of investors who were going to build a condo complex there. Then the deal fell through when the housing market colapsed and now it sits there, empty, and not earning a single penny for the new investors.

  • i miss this place :( im a local :P but i hate that they just closed it ...its still there closed down :(

  • So many memories of growing up going to PCB. Half the fun was going to the strip, I can't believe they tore it down for more condos........how sad. My little girl will never know what it's like to ride the Starliner after swimming all day.

  • What is this song called I'm dying to know what the song in the video is called!

  • the song is Classical Gas by Mason Williams. :)

  • @swampfoxer The song I hear when I watch the video is The Ride of the Valkeries by Wagner. Did you change the music?

  • The song is called Classical Gas.

  • @duckperson2 The musics is "The Ride of the Valkyries" from "Die Walküre" (the second of the four operas that comprise Der Ring des Nibelungen) by Richard Wagner.

  • aww I remember this. I came on here looking for that old theme song but I can't find it haha.

  • i was born in panama city beach i remember the song shipwreack island miracle strip park splashin all day and screaming after dark thrillin rides and water slides

  • Todays Panama City Beach Stinks i miss the old days of Less Ugly Assed Condos

  • omg i didnt think they would have this video. this was my first coaster. i love it. and i miss it. i was heartbroken when i heard that miracle strip was gone=[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[

  • The Starliner is still in operation. She's now in Winter Haven at Cypress Gardens. Haven't been on it yet at CG but I've been on it many times at MSAP. Starliner was definately worth the effort to save.

  • We stayed in the Tower hotel/motel across from MS in 2005,the actual tower is gone...just a picture on the lobby wall, the tunnel on the ride could still be seen,,,very sad. Now Petticoat Junction is a Wal-Mart egads!

  • I knew the Station house was still standing but the tunnels up as well? They need to move it down to CG and re-install it on Starliner!

  • Maybe it was the darkened right side of the station house. I took some video, but I have so much video I'll try and post it.

  • We all do. But at least the Coaster is still alive and kicking down at Cypress Gardens. Long Live the Starliner!

  • Man I miss Miracle Strip!!!

  • can someone please tell me why they closed the park

  • Rode this today at Cypress Gardens, great little out and back woodie, gives some good airtime aswell and pretty quick for its age. Great move by Cypress Gardens to keep this coaster alive. Nice video also.

  • That was the first rollar coaster I ever went on! I was heart broken when they closed the park.

  • Brings back memories of a great little park now long gone ( and we call this progress?) The Starliner was my first and still my favorite Wood Coaster and its great that it was saved.

  • I use to go to Miracle Strip as a kid. I loved it. but I remember that demon ride. Never rode that. Too Scared. Didn't know what was in it. But The Polar Scrambler I was all in for it.

  • I Miss Miracle Strip Park, We Go To PCB every summer, and that was THE place to go! I miss it so much!
