You could be right,but do not blame the whole community for the sake of few.Just as a minority person should not held majority community responsible for the acts of TOGADIA OR THACKERAYS.There are still archeilogical sites around Muslim countries even after years of Muslim rule,Idols adorning caves and palaces eg.Egypt,Jordan etc.A muslim is not suppose to worship any one other than one supreme God,same time he is not suppose to scavenge on other peoples faiths unless forced to.

If you read quran with open mind you will understand what this great book stands for.Have you ever heard any of great Rishi/Muni worshipping idols.They use to meditate in the name of Almighty God.Their DYan was enough to please the one lord.But later people started creating idols and statues to bind god in shapes of animals,humans and sexual organs,your religion at its inception,like Islam does not permit Idol worship Since lord is omnipresent and cannot be curtailed in dirt and clay.
