@PituDitu Yes, the disk does look ropey, but then there were a lot of originals that had cheap looking labels back in the day, so I'm not calling shenanigans on it just yet...
Hope you find a nice copy of the X-Wing compilation, I love all of those games. TIE Fighter is probably my favourite. It looked gorgeous at the time thanks to the higher resolution and goraud shading, and the story was immersive and compelling (playing as the bad guy thinking that your the good guy etc.).
Star Wars is still a classic on any system although you get bored after about forur death star runs. Nice collection of mags. Always liked Amiga Power back in the day.
@2DFlightSim I didn't really 'get' Interphase at the time - it was probably a bit bewildering to an 11 year old. I came back to it years later to discover an absolute gem. It's a concept ripe for a remake/update. Ironic really, I normally hate escort missions in games, but Interphase comes at the concept from such a unique angle.
Oh wow, glad I'm not the only one that still re-reads old ST magazines currently. Still love looking through my copies of ST Format & Current Notes =D
Can't wait for your videos of Rogue and Star Wars. Rogue was one of my first ST games, and I still play as the Rogue character in Nethack ;)
Ah, that Parasol Stars copy of ST Action was one I had too. It's amazing how just looking at a front cover of a nigh on 20 year old magazine presses all the nostalgia buttons!
Small world too because just earlier on this morning I was looking at some Leander gameplay and it was one of the demos from said mag :)
@bluetonic78 As a big fan of Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Islands, that Parasol Stars demo was a revelation. Perversely, I actually ended up buying it for the GameBoy, which was a really good conversion. I definitely need to get hold of the ST version at some point.
I get the biggest nostalgia buzz from looking at Zero Magazine. That's the one I used to read religiously. Surprisingly, a lot of the humour still stands up today (unless it's just the rose-tinted specs again!)
@thejoyofsticks Yes! Zero Magazine! Most people I mention that to are like "Zero what?". It didn't last long (the demise kicked in after they included Strip Poker on a cover disk and were subsequently banned from a plethora of leading newsagents, oops!) but I completely agree that it still stands up today and was a bit of a trailblazer.
@bluetonic78 That combined with overhauling the look of the magazine to make it look like a copy of Zit magazine (read Viz for kids) was absolute suicide. Really it should have rid the waves off console uptake and gone on strong for a couple more years at least.
It's like entering a time warp, reading an old magazine. Somehow even more evocative of the past than actually playing these old games. I can't wait to find time to sit down and read these (though that might have to wait until retirement at this rate). Thanks for watching!
Oh niiice, Star Wars Arcade. I'd do many things to get one in a condition like that. Not sure bout the disc though...
Now I am hunting for X-wing Collector's on PC but this became a rare finding too.

@ash81b4u I guess you are right, but stick it on the hardest difficulty and treat it as a score attack and it still excites!
I wouldn't mind reading some Amiga Power, as it was a springboard for many great writers - Stu Campbell and Kieron Gillen spring to mind.

@thejoyofsticks I really enjoyed reading AP every month. Tough reviews but the mag was very funny too.

@ash81b4u Am I right in thinking it shares writers with Your Sinclair and Zero?
thejoyofsticks 5 months ago
@thejoyofsticks The first editor of AP, Matt Bielby, did work on a Spectrum mag. It may have been Your Sinclair.

@ash81b4u Jonathon Davies worked on Zero and AP. His writing was very good.

That was my first ST Format too - with Interphase on the cover. Unfortunately it was another 3 or so years before I got an ST haha!

Nice pickups, h weren't DEMO disks just the most fun?
MaximumRD 5 months ago
@MaximumRD The excitement at getting to play something new! Some of these demos got more play time than the full releases I bought!

@MistaMaddog247 Nice one, when I fail miserably at Rogue (very likely) you can give me some pointers! Is Nethack your favourite Rogue-like?

It's funny I just bought a bundle of over 20 C64 mags on Ebay. I love old magazines...lol.
