hey does anyonw know if the backpacker is different from other classicals besides the shape? cause if its like miniature or sounds different, i cant use it for a class im goin to. so is it just like normal?
while there is no official standard scale length, the backpacker nylon string has a slightly shorter scale length (24") than most classical nylon guitars (usually in the range 25.6"-26"). the main difference in the sound will come from the body size, not the the scale length. it definitely sounds different because of that. hope this helps, although probably 6 months too late for your purposes.
Stumbled onto this looking for guitar videos and was like 'oh how cool, I hiked the AT in '02 (Hopfrog)'. Man I picked up the guitar because I was so jealous of the guys on the trail who could jam at 4 pines etc... Was caught off guard by your pipes though, you got a smooth voice man. Was looking at the Traveler guitars, have you tried them?
hey thanks man, sorry for being so late with this response. i totally feel you about the "4 pines etc". Do you remember going through Duncannon? I stayed there for like a week and a half (where these videos were filmed). Just wondering. I've never tried any other travel guitar than the Backpacker. It sounds amazing for its size. I actually played a gig with it on the trail in Hot Springs and made $60 in tips. haha. What I'm saying is it's legit... my suggestion.
Do I remember going through Duncannon? lol, man I remember being hungover for like a week at Duncannon. Loved the Doyle hotel. We'd crank the jukebox and play pool all day and night. Pennsyvania was brutal on the trail with all those rocks, but Yuengling everywhere made it a fun state.
hey thanks. I suggest the guitar you see in the video. The Martin Backpacker. It is the most expensive backpacker, but I have played the others, and have experienced this one while walking the Appalachian Trail, and must say that it is the most versatile, sturdy, and has the best sound.
alright, the comment from your mom, was probably the best on this youtube video. :) Hope the trails treating you well bro. Ive read it can be pretty demanding.
hey there! I was reading about hiking the at, and I think you should make an update of your journey so far and keep updating it as well! Its kinda interesting! maybe some pics n vids too :)

Hey man, very fresh take. Dig the softer voice, lot smoother than Clapton's.
I appreciate this post. Thanks.
