omg swift sucks. drove with em for almost 2 years. The most disorganized company ive ever worked for, not to mention they treat their drivers like sh*t
My truck Driving school journey starts tomorrow!!! i have an interview with people at Roadmaster tomorrow... Hopefully they help me get my class A and get me a job.....
being a trucker we all been there and it is a way of reflecting from the past. As you gain experience you will look back and realize how far ahead you have come to.
My brother used to drive trucks for Budweiser and retired about a decade ago in his 40's, now he's back in the business and happier than ever...he went through Roadmaster Truckdriving School, and he said he's never been a part of any CDL training that was so seamless as Roadmaster , he said it was very fluid, the trainers were awesome in taking pride in EVERYONE being on the same page, and once he graduated, he was immediately hired and 100% of his tuition has been paid back by his employer!
yeah go with a local company and stay there. Local delivery drivers make the most money and are home every night. The bigger general freight outfits are all the same. Swift, Schneider, JB Hunt, and others will screw you. Better to join up with a local company and stay local. The only advantage to working OTR for a general freight company is seeing more of the countr, but I wouldn't give any big general front outfit two years any more. Good luck to you.
Agreed, I have 20 Years in the industry. Stay away from the romance of the "open road" unless you want to make your truck number your zip code. It gets old right off the bat. Go to a local company that has over the road units and work a dock untill you can get into a truck. Again, dont go to the big outfits, too many bad stories of abuse.
@ASDS0101 I GOT MINE ALSO BUT THE ECONOMY IS SO DAM BAD I WOULD NOT TAKE A CHANCE LEAVING MY PRESENT JOB TO GO ON THE ROAD .WERNER N STEVEN TRANSPORT WANT TO HIRE ME . I SPOKE TO A STEVEN TRSNSPORT EMPLOYEE N ASKED HIM HOW MUCH HE MAKES , HE SAID THE MONEY HE MAKES HE EATS IT ON THE ROAD , FIRST I TELL HIM HOW MUCH I MAKE ON MY PRESENT JOB , SO HE CAN TELL ME HOW MUCH HE MAKES IN HIS . HE WAS EMBARRASS TO TELL ME . THEN HE SAID 400 DOLLARS A WEEK . EVERY BODY LOOKING FOR JOB SO THEY EXPLOITED
after after working over 2+ years in the industry, I had my good days and bad days of backing. In the real world you take as many pull ups as you need to and get out and look as many times as you have to.
Yeah your right As of September 2007, the minimum age to drive a Class C or C+E HGV is 21 years old. Check with Direct Gov as there are some exclusions to this rule. I googled it Maybe in some states its 18 idk
per federal motor carrier safety regs u must be 22yrs old. go to a company school website like u s xpress schneider covenant transport pam transport etc. they will train you for free if you agree to drive for them for a year check it out. good luck...
wow, Ten years truckin?? Is it that easy to stay in the field of driving? Im young and I am considering beeing a truck driver. Is it a good job 4 young people? Tell me what you can!
this was heartening in too many ways to put here. I started my journey 7 years ago on a second career after 30 years in one and am once again having to restart..so your blogs have been more than just observation to me. We're survivors but also brave souls, don't forget that.
As instructors/teachers you and I both know that sometimes the second one has advantages the first didn't.
A teacher can make or break you. Who am I telling? You are a teacher. Ron, one day soon a light bulb will go off and you will be a professional. Wishing you the very best! Hugs, Marty :)
You're posting almost faster than I can watch and comment! Great parting wishes too, thanks. I'm happy with what I got done around here today. Every day ccomplish at least one thing, and do one nice thing for someone else.
GOD BLESS YOU ON YOUR ENDEAVORS!
