Do doctors not advise people anymore about the potential of addiction for opiates and not to take them all the time? I know I couldn't get prescribed a percocet without hearing that spiel, and I couldn't get a refill without another prescription. Nowadays, it seems like they're practically forcing it on people, to hear the addicts tell it.

@stoxocube18 don't have a choice but most alcoholics when they first have a drink don't expect that a few years down the line theyre going to wake up shaking in the morning with delirium tremens. I should know. I was an alcoholic. Im not saying I'm blameless because i was selfish in drinking but i was hoooked on the medicative effect that it had on me. Heroin and crack etc addicts are pretty sure what risk theyre running when they first shoot up. No heroin addict is as naive as to say "oh well
@stoxocube18 I never thought i'd get addicted to it" but an alcoholic certainly has every right to say that as it likely that the majority of people they know drink responsibly and when they started drinking probably did it responsibly themselves. hHenceforth, alcoholics are definitely less to blame. Although i think the reason for us both disagreeing is prob cos im an ex alcoholic and I presume by your defence of intrvenous drug users, you were and addict yourself.
These people that are shooting up are addicts. They won't stop doing it in the streets, might as well prevent aids and diseases by letting them shoot up legally.
my tax money my tax money my tax money my tax money blah blah blah blah your giving these people shit for what they do but you fuckin bow down to the corporate masters and do whatever they say you let them take billions of dollars from you so they can burn it and you smile you want more you love it, its so much easier to blame the little guy whos just like you then it is to admit you have no real freedom and you will never live in a good world because they don't want a society of love end2012
And anyone who thinks that only "silver spoon fed spoiled suburban yuppies" oppose this, there are people, like myself, who work hard and dont want to see tax money paying for someones recreation
I think it's bad idea to let the addicts bring there own drugs in. It would safer if this clinic provided pure morphine & diamorphine themseleves. So you don't have people shooting up dirty & unknown strengths of drugs.
@wks107tdv123 Couldn't agree more....I believe Norway has a great system where addicts can inject prescribed heroin in a similar type of clinic. I would love to see something like that in the US.
@wks107tdv123 Then watch the overdose numbers crash, the amount of money treating these ODs with emergency services drop dramatically (all of which is covered by the gov because of Canada's healthcare system) and suddenly addicts become patients and can have an easier time weaning off the drugs at their pace.
Why should this be a bad idea? is making people with problems criminal the solution? Is pushing them into ghetto streets, where they can have no assistance and die, the solution? They made a choice in their lives - ok, a bad one - but they are still people. Society never intended help, only getting rid of them. Well, news flash: tomorrow it could be your son!
They call cannabis a narcotic, and DMT, both are not narcotics, these people should research before opening their prejudiced little mouths, I fucking despise propaganda like this.
@KreatorRage check this definition out from WordWeb: Cannabis - Any plant of the genus Cannabis; a coarse bushy annual with palmate leaves and clusters of small green flowers; yields tough fibers and narcotic drugs.
Using the term 'disease' is just a downright pathetic excuse to free yourself from any and all responsibility. Serial killers have something wrong with their brains, right? You feel for them, too? Born with no arms, now that I feel for. Nobody is born with the urge to stick a needle in their arm. Some people are more prone to act on impulses, yes. But to declare that addicts are exempt from scorn is simply ignorant. They are human, yes, that's why they need a little kick in the ass here & there
@TheAssesKicker Yes, I see the difference. I think we agree. I was being sarcastic. I'm just so tired of people using the excuse that addiction is a disease. Sick people that harm others don't get a hall pass, so why should drug addicts?. Whether they are hurting themselves or others is beside the point, or at least, my point..Disease or not, there is a concious choice involved when making these decisions, and people need to be held accountable. My dad's liver was held accountable
I think a more appropriate term would be disorder, but I see you don't truly understand drug addiction. The Libet experiment shows us that we don't really have free will, and drugs target the most primitive parts of our brain that control our want for things. There is as much as a genetic component as schizophrenia. No one that harms others should get a hall pass, and that includes addicts.
@almostskater3210 I'll agree with the term disorder. But for you to pass judgement by reading a few lines of text is simply ridiculous. How do you know what I may or may not 'understand'. I understand what many people believe. It doesn't mean that I agree with it. If an addict quits using for 80 years, then has a relapse, can you seriously argue that will power doesn't play a part? 50 years? 25? What is the rule for which one is truly an addict, or just a wannabe? Life is grey
Well because I know a lot about addiction and I have only met a few people who actually understand it. If you know what polymorphisms, dopamine, D2 receptors, GAP-43, CREB binding element, etc are then you understand addiction. It is all about operant conditioning. Watch this: watch?v=ekDFv7TTZ4I&feature=related The whole series is a good beginner introduction. Drugs are in a different category than other choices, a much, much different category.
@almostskater3210 I'll watch that when I get home. Trying(with not much will power) to get homework done in library. I know what dopamine is, not the others. Read a good book by Dominic Streatfeild titled, "Cocaine: An Unauthorized Biography". He touched a little on that. I'm wondering, so that we might get to the root of our disagreement, do you believe that will power plays any role in quitting substance abuse, or because one quit proves they were not truly addicted?
What the video series touches on is that the disease is not in the behavior, but in the intense craving brought on by seriously strong memory pathways burnt into your brain through tremendous dopamine surges brought on by drugs, thereby disabling a part of your prefrontal cortex that controls decision making. Addiction is a disease of choice. Glutamate activates these pathways when around drug cues, inciting relapse. Using other drugs triggers dopamine release, inciting relapse.
... quitting is very possible for many if not most, but most people are not educated and not exposed to proper treatment. And because drugs are illegal, most addicts are forced underground, made worse by the sentiment the populace has of them. And then there are added variables such as early loss. You can't judge why an addict uses until you've walked mile in his/her shoes. Just being in the same neighborhood you were an addict in can incite relapse, especially for meth users.
@almostskater3210 The gist of my belief is that we have a choice. It may be harder for some than others, but guess what, that's life. I've got demons. I usually win. When I don't win I don't blame it on genes. If someone beats their addiction for a given amount of time does that mean that they're not really addicts in your book? Like I said before, life is grey; there are ups and downs. In the end, it's what you do about it,not what kind of label you can use as a safety blanket
Using narcotics in America was a FREEDOM we once had and could buy OTC.it was a socially acceptable addiction like nicotine or alcohol is today. The HARRISON NARCOTICS TAX ACT OF 1914 was enacted less than a year after America was SOLD to the FEDERAL RESERVE.Greedy BANKERS designed it with CORRUPT GOVT officials to profit off narcotics themselves...and thats why OUR TROOPS are HELPING the farmers in AFGANISTAN and OXYCODONE is in EVERY high school in AMERICA...one reason..$MONEY$
They should do like england and supply the drugs. Like a methadone clinic only heroin. Bringing there own drugs kind of makes it dirty. If we had this place in texas the cops would just wait down the road and watch them come out of the place and arrest em for posetion or public intoxication. gotta love the US of A.
I say let people put whatever they want in their own bodies it's their choice if they want to shoot heroin let em it's their body, as long as they don't hurt anyone while they do it, that is what this facility is trying to do.
As a recovering heroin addict I am disgusted that this is allowed over in Canada. All you are doing is encouraging the addict to continue to use. How about taking all this money they spend of supplies for them to use and spend it on a recovery program, rehab or medication for these people. At least then you are helping save lives! I get that people die and spread diseases when they are out on the streets, but Canada is making an excuse for these people to keep using. Sad if you ask me.
ALERT, they have developed a vaccine that will cause your immune system to attack the opioid molecules in you body, making them completely in affective. Not only will it block ilicit drugs it will block all natural opioid peptides that are released during sex, injury, running.etc.. This is an attempt to regulate our emotions it is evil. Besides the fact most vaccines are covert bio weapons. They will FORCE this on people seeking help in rehab etc by demonizing the addiction please pass this on
lol "when government permits" i guess freedom is just a word politicians pay lip service to.
why should government have authority to deny you these pleasures, if you were truly free you should be allowed to do as you please so long as it doesn't effect others directly.
now ponder that for a second, and No, i am not a drug user of any kind I rarely even drink beer
@SoldierCyfix We haven't been free since 1850's gov sanctioned production and distribution of heroin has lowered deaths transmission of HIV Hep C.etc the crime rate by 3/4's, If they wanted to fix the problem they could with the stroke of a pen. To much money to be made by all parties involved on the black market dea, prison system, local cops, banks laundering money, dealers, drug lords etc. We need a way to keep the flow of money going in a legal system so the big corps. will let it happen.
vancouver is really only bad in the centre half a mile from there is just a normal city with great culture and people and that has beautifal landmarks
fukn hell u feel hurt inside? ur gonna feel hurt inside and the outside and hate ur life even more, think about what u do before u do any drug. you have a choice to do it or not. but i feel very sorry for the addicts and for those who were forced into drugs.
look at the guy at 4.12 he says junkies are interesting and funny people.. yeah may be for you but try it once my friend and you will see if it is funny when you have cold turkey
badass a place i can go smoke my legal bud potpourri "kush pink" and "klimax strawberry by kush" texas authorities hate anything that dont benefit em...if sumones trying to feel good or makin quick cash its illegal....come on fake weed illegal????? ichubbs81
The chick banging up in her neck is doing it all wrong. She should go straight in holding the works horizontally then draw the plunger back to draw blood, and after she has done it once she will know exactly where to go in next time. Watch for arteries, "If it's pink, stop and think, if it's red, go ahead".
@doucheriders No, they have a disease, a psychological and physical disease thats been proven scientifically. it can be passed through DNA, if your parents were drug addicts you have a 60 percent chance of becoming a drug addict just through similar brain activity. To call them losers is to call anyone with aids a loser even someone with cancer, it is a disease. have some compassion for people not everyone is a silver spoon fed spoiled suburban yuppie with the world by the balls.
@PitBullRa19h666 ok, but if you dont shot heroin in the first place there is no chance of getting addicted to hero, ive smoked pot for a pretty long time and my mom smoked pot but i didnt smoke because she did i did it because it was fucking fun
@PitBullRa19h666 wow, i see what your saying bro and i totally get your point but we all decide our own fate no matter what, it may be harder for some people but everyone has the simple ability to say no.
@njduquette you would say that because you dont understand addiction, you dont know what it feels like to have the intense almost possession like craving and the withdrawal sickness that goes with it, people have died just from the intensity of the withdrawal.
@PitBullRa19h666 yea i get that. you can die from the side effects but in the end its a disease that you give to yourself and that you can control. with will power you can stop it, or never start it. im not debating whether or not its a disease im saying its not fair to compare it with cancer. not like a cancer patient said oh ill just try cancer this once i can stop whenever i want
There are lots of things we are more likely to do if our parents did them. There is nothing scientific about your conclusion. Heroin is seductive , it is not a disease.
@PitBullRa19h666 no they dont have a disease. they have whats called "i can break the law with impunity because liberal assholes will defend my actions" syndrome. Also, LOL at sells scavanged goods. more like stolen goods. why cant they take a hotshot and die?
@pantsarehard You are an uneducated fool. You are whats wrong with humanity. So do everyone a favor, either shut your fucking word hole or get the fuck off this planet.
@Eoinzero Gee, I guess I'd better watch what I say or else AnalZero will kick my ass. Shove your love of junkies up your ass, you retard. these pieces of crap steal and rob people to fund their drug habits. Yeah, lets provide them a place to break the law in peace. Fuck you.
lol They make Vancouver sound like the most dangerous place in north america. You think that's bad go to Detroit, it's the only city of a developed nation that constantly makes the top 10 most dangerous cities in the world list.
@nooldgrandmaclowns I don't think that was really the point. I think they are just simply trying to expose an ongoing problem that has been plaguing this city for a LONG time.
this is beautiful. not the drug use, but the compassion that the pple who run this place have for these users. i would love to work in a place like that- to see the other side of who these people are.
i think this place is amazing, i might only be 20 but ive been using for 4 years now and i know if there was a place like this where i could go i wouldn't have made a lot of the mistakes i did. having a limited supply of water rigs and cotton forces you to share that's how i ended up with hep C. this place is giving people a clean and safer environment.
ooooh. marijuana (weed) is so baaad... fucking idiots. lets be honest, it really does kill brain cells, but it takes a long time for you to get some what "retarded".
@StillComedy Um no ...there is only one test that showed that it kills brain cells. It was done by placing a mask with a hose attached over a monkey's mouth and filling the hose with smoke. The only problem was that there was no way for oxygen to get into the mask. So once the monkeys asphyxiated the scientists concluded that it must have been the marijuana that killed their brain cells. Pure brilliance eh?
@nooldgrandmaclowns dude ive been smoking weed for about a year and a half, i notice no effects of being dumber, but i saw on a show of a guy who smoked for 25 years everday, and he was retarted
these poor poeple need help, not a place to allow them to use there drugs, i don't think this is a good place

I think it's bad idea to let the addicts bring there own drugs in. It would safer if this clinic provided pure morphine & diamorphine themseleves. So you don't have people shooting up dirty & unknown strengths of drugs.
wks107tdv123 2 weeks ago 14
@wks107tdv123 Couldn't agree more....I believe Norway has a great system where addicts can inject prescribed heroin in a similar type of clinic. I would love to see something like that in the US.

@wks107tdv123 Then watch the overdose numbers crash, the amount of money treating these ODs with emergency services drop dramatically (all of which is covered by the gov because of Canada's healthcare system) and suddenly addicts become patients and can have an easier time weaning off the drugs at their pace.
intothebreach 5 days ago
Why should this be a bad idea? is making people with problems criminal the solution? Is pushing them into ghetto streets, where they can have no assistance and die, the solution? They made a choice in their lives - ok, a bad one - but they are still people. Society never intended help, only getting rid of them. Well, news flash: tomorrow it could be your son!

They are human, yes, that's why they need a little kick in the ass here & there
innmytime 3 weeks ago
@innmytime Really? Drug addicts(except the people who smoke weed) harm themselves, murderers on the other hand harm other people. See the difference?
TheAssesKicker 3 weeks ago
@TheAssesKicker Yes, I see the difference. I think we agree. I was being sarcastic. I'm just so tired of people using the excuse that addiction is a disease. Sick people that harm others don't get a hall pass, so why should drug addicts?. Whether they are hurting themselves or others is beside the point, or at least, my point..Disease or not, there is a concious choice involved when making these decisions, and people need to be held accountable. My dad's liver was held accountable
innmytime 3 weeks ago
@innmytime
I think a more appropriate term would be disorder, but I see you don't truly understand drug addiction. The Libet experiment shows us that we don't really have free will, and drugs target the most primitive parts of our brain that control our want for things. There is as much as a genetic component as schizophrenia. No one that harms others should get a hall pass, and that includes addicts.
almostskater3210 3 weeks ago
@almostskater3210 I'll agree with the term disorder. But for you to pass judgement by reading a few lines of text is simply ridiculous. How do you know what I may or may not 'understand'. I understand what many people believe. It doesn't mean that I agree with it. If an addict quits using for 80 years, then has a relapse, can you seriously argue that will power doesn't play a part? 50 years? 25? What is the rule for which one is truly an addict, or just a wannabe? Life is grey
innmytime 3 weeks ago
@innmytime
Drugs are in a different category than other choices, a much, much different category.
almostskater3210 3 weeks ago
@almostskater3210 I'll watch that when I get home. Trying(with not much will power) to get homework done in library. I know what dopamine is, not the others. Read a good book by Dominic Streatfeild titled, "Cocaine: An Unauthorized Biography". He touched a little on that. I'm wondering, so that we might get to the root of our disagreement, do you believe that will power plays any role in quitting substance abuse, or because one quit proves they were not truly addicted?
innmytime 3 weeks ago
@innmytime
Using other drugs triggers dopamine release, inciting relapse.
almostskater3210 3 weeks ago
@innmytime
... quitting is very possible for many if not most, but most people are not educated and not exposed to proper treatment. And because drugs are illegal, most addicts are forced underground, made worse by the sentiment the populace has of them. And then there are added variables such as early loss. You can't judge why an addict uses until you've walked mile in his/her shoes. Just being in the same neighborhood you were an addict in can incite relapse, especially for meth users.
almostskater3210 3 weeks ago

Not only will it block ilicit drugs it will block all natural opioid peptides that are released during sex, injury, running.etc.. This is an attempt to regulate our emotions it is evil. Besides the fact most vaccines are covert bio weapons. They will FORCE this on people seeking help in rehab etc by demonizing the addiction please pass this on

njduquette 3 weeks ago
@njduquette you would say that because you dont understand addiction, you dont know what it feels like to have the intense almost possession like craving and the withdrawal sickness that goes with it, people have died just from the intensity of the withdrawal.
PitBullRa19h666 3 weeks ago
@PitBullRa19h666 yea i get that. you can die from the side effects but in the end its a disease that you give to yourself and that you can control. with will power you can stop it, or never start it. im not debating whether or not its a disease im saying its not fair to compare it with cancer. not like a cancer patient said oh ill just try cancer this once i can stop whenever i want
njduquette 3 weeks ago

@StillComedy Um no ...there is only one test that showed that it kills brain cells. It was done by placing a mask with a hose attached over a monkey's mouth and filling the hose with smoke. The only problem was that there was no way for oxygen to get into the mask. So once the monkeys asphyxiated the scientists concluded that it must have been the marijuana that killed their brain cells. Pure brilliance eh?
