  • watching this masterpiece then following it up with red dragon is like having an awesome meal followed up with burnt toast

  • Grissom from csi

  • i really need to start reading novels...best movies come from old novels. people are always saying 'the novel is better' and i never know what they're talking about

  • Manhunter. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. :) Brian Cox for the win. :D

  • @MsYakkina Brian Cox is a wonderful Dr Lector Better better than Hopkins.

Manhunter is a much better film than the red dragon.

  • @kneeship Oh yes, so very true :)))

  • corny as fuck

  • I much prefer Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Lector.

  • Marsha Marsha

*brady bunch music in the background*

  • that dude looks like some kind of ....porn star or something sleazy

  • 'Mr Dollarhyde! What are you doing here?!'' ''Frances is gone-Frances is gone for ever!'' ''You will tell the truth?''

  • Michael Mann shows us with "Manhunter" true to life Psychopathic subject matter to the highest order instead of drowning the audience in a layer of Hollywood esque garbage that we saw with Red Dragon.

  • Red > Manhunter

  • The people who read the book know manhunter is the better movie

  • Manhunter > Red Dragon

  • THERE is no link to Miami Vice in this Movie The programme was not good Miami Vice I am talking about But This Movie is Brilliant not for the faint-hearted or The Brain-Dead it,s for People that actually views it & thinks about it

  • This is shit. Red Dragon is way better.

  • @dimitreze Red Dragon is better for the average haven't got a clue mind i guess.

  • i think manhunter is a better than the remake red dragon, both are excellent but you reallt cant beat this original. Cox and Hopkins both are great lectors, cant beat silence of the lambs

  • How can people think that Red Dragon is better than Manhunter? i guess you are the same type of people who love films like Iron Man, Transformers, Fast and the Furious.

i figure It's so easy for people to sit back and watch Red Dragon i guess it's all there on a plate nothing to figure out easy to follow with no effort, Red Dragon was a serial killer movie for dummies.

  • i hate when people say Manhunter is dated and it looks like Miami Vice thats so ignorant and lazy, people fail to take in account how visually beautiful it was the direction top notch the fantastic acting great suspense all the way to the end. A stunning blend of high-tech police procedural and serial-killer thriller, this cool, almost icy exploration of the very thin dividing line between the forces of law and the forces of madness is head and shoulders above its over-rated follow ups.

  • @5eurocups2005 agreed- thats like saying Scarface is dated because it has disco music and disco scenes- or Citizen Kane is dated because it's in black in white with old cars and music; a utterly ridiculous argument- the time capsule characteristic of movies are part of their appeal, part of the escapism films offer from our daily lives

  • The Manhunt games are NOT based on this movie. It is loosely based on "The Running Man" - THis has no comparison to the game besides the word manhunt.

  • This movie is brilliant, hopkins is shit at everything, Laurentis rules..

  • Remember Michael Mann did Miami Vice as well so their is that influence in the man-hunter movie ie music and many of the actors either was on vice or crime story. After the movie came to vhs I was working at a video store when a local P D came in to rent the movie. I had seen it and asked if he knew what it was about and he said yes that the book and movie should be required reading and viewing for pro filers that's how they do it technology wise and the psychology of it man-hunter before BAU

  • Yeah this movie is kinda shit. Watched it for the first time tonight and was highly disappointed.

  • isnt that one of the guys from jaws?

  • YOUR FACE GODDAMNIT

  • @renato2kfilms are they REALY, i havent played manhunt for a very long time, i don't recall it had to do anything with hannibal lecter?

  • so in other words, this is obviously the original? before ed nortons and anthony hopkins?...I want to rent this one, hope they have it on cd...

  • @tatakpinoy2 no movies are in cd... sorry for being a smartass, just had to point it out.

  • this movie dosent look that good, the remake is sooooo good!!!

  • Oh, Grissom... I love you but you're no match for Hannibal Lecter... not with those lines, at least.

  • Is that grisham from csi ?

  • Does anyone know the name of the music at 0:50 ?

Please, reply me back if so.

  • @Reboothis Never Mind, I found out "Strong as I am".

  • If you want to see a better version of this story watch Red Dragon.

  • Grissom...?

  • Question: Did this movie somehow inspired the videogame Manhunt? (Didnt see the movie yet)

  • Tel me something I dont know sageless wonder

  • Manhunter was awesome - Red Dragon just OK

  • Do not waste your time on this trash if you are a true movie lover..Reminded me of "made for TV" movie about a serial killer... Epic failure of a follow-up to Silence of the Lambs

  • You idiot..."Manhunter" was made in 1986, five years before "Silence of the Lambs" came out. Get your facts right and develop some taste before you post crap.

  • @imugly678

This was before SOTL, you dumbass.

  • @PinheiroIllness85 That was what your mom said last night, buttmunch

  • @imugly678

Umad because you can't get your dumb facts right XD

Cry me a river, butthurt :)

  • @PinheiroIllness85 Nothing could be further from your bold-faced drivel!! Therefore, cry me a tributary butt paste :)

  • @imugly678

Ha, it's funny because you're the angry one, trying to sound normal and happy even though you are getting mad because I corrected your dumbass statement :)

  • @PinheiroIllness85 Not at all.. you are the ass clown who got all bent out of shape over a stupid ass movie.. sounds like you need the anger management classes.. and yes, I am very happy :)

  • @imugly678

Anger management? LOL. I just said "This was before SOTL, dumbass" That doesn't make me have anger problems XD You do because you started saying silly, butthurt jokes, such as the mum one. I mean, dude, just admit that you were angry that you made a silly mistake :)

  • @PinheiroIllness85 I never make mistakes whatchu talkin' bout Willis? :) I am as happy as you can be.. No anger here.. the mammy joke wasn't mean-spirited .. you took it that way and got all defensive...I could care less about this crappy movie lol

  • @imugly678

Yeah, cos my comment shows that I got defensive -_-

You're a funny guy, not admitting your mistake :)

  • @imugly678 Thats why your still posting comments?

  • i love this film. William Peterson is Will Graham i love how well he portrays the character. would love to see a prequel maybe two with atleast William Peterson & maybe Dennis Farina returning to the series.

  • @rko619wrestlingfan I would like to see a prequel on Clarice Starling, but Will Graham would be cool too.

  • In this movie one feels that Graham Will is the most important character because this story is narrated from the FBI point of view unlike the series featuring Anthony Hopkins which focuses mainly on Hannibal Lecter. Even in the novel Red Dragon Hannibal Lecter is introduced much later; the first one-fourth part of the novel focuses on Will Graham.

  • anthony hopkins is a pussy compared to this guy

  • wtf im so confused now. Is this a remake of the best movies with Anthony Hopkins or is the best movies based on this? Why would even some one be so stiupid to make a movie and top Anthony Hopkins??

  • @Bobbounderliv If you notice, Manhunter was made in 1986 where as Silence is from 1991 (the other Hopkins' Lecter movies were made following this). The films are based on the novels by Thomas Harris (Red Dragon 1981, Silence of the Lambs 1988, Hannibal 1999, Hannibal Rising (gag) 2006) and with the exception of Silence the books are for the most part better than the films imo. Hope that helped.

  • @Bobbounderliv Manhunter was made before Anthony Hopkins was Hannibal. I agree with most people in saying that Anthony is unbeatable as Hannibal but as i said Manhunter was before that so it shouldn't be discredited :)

  • This one was much better than the Red Dragon remake

  • simon pourat

  • Manhunter is excellent. Red Dragon is a bad copy. William Petersen performance is very good as Will Graham as of Tom Noonan and Brian Cox. Billy Petersen look delicious in this movie.

  • Michael Mann a genius.

  • this atmospheric version is way better than red dragon.

  • Is good as red dragon??

  • Manhunter is a masterpiece, best combination of photography, soundtrack, acting and location in film ever but sadly very overlooked cos of a silence of lambs which looked more like a cheap TV film dark and moody

  • Michael Mann is God,

    1. Manhunter

    2. Silence of The Lambs

    3. Red Dragon

    end of.

  • @i3ever Michael mann had nothing to do with either silence of the lambs nor red dragon.

  • @AAAndreeee

    never said he did

  • i prefer red dragon but that is just because i think ralph fiennes made a much better francis dolarhyde than tom noonan did.

  • Why cant everybody just reconcile the Fact that Cox and Hopkins are both very good Hannibal Lectors. Each actor brings something new to the character.

  • I like them both, although I like Hopkins better. But I also think that manhunter is the second best of all the hannibal films, and his performance was one of the reasons why I did place it that high. Manhunter is so much better than Red Dragon,Hannibal Rising, and especially Hannibal.

  • Grissom!!! :D

  • what's the name of the song please?

  • The Question should be is Manhunter better than The Silence of The Lambs not Red Dragon, everybody in there right minds knows that Red Dragon was just about the money at the box office, i am not going to be that harsh because red dragon is an OK film, but comparing it to Manhunter is like comparing Goodfellas to Mickey Blue Eyes

  • Nortons dye job in Red Dragon was so bad I was giggling thru the whole movie. This one I took serious.

  • Manhunter is unarguably the superior movie to Red Dragon. Better actors, better director, better cinematography, authentic settings, better score. Sorry.

  • Eh the Will Gram in this looks very pretentious, shouldnt knock Edward's take

  • Both Red Dragon and Manhunter have their pros and cons. If I had to pick one I'd probably go with Manhunter.

  • 0:10 Is that the dude from CSI!?

  • @Kl4pp5tuhl Yup

  • Well i really like the film i just watched it and it was great and its way better than Red Dragon plus its more realistic and the actors are really good

  • Oh man!! from the mind of Miami vice, gave us this great film!!! Brian cox was brilliant as Hannibal Lector, so creepy.! Tom Noonan as Francis Dollarhyde a.k.a The Toothfairy killer. William Peterson as FBI agent Will Graham. I so love this movie. Red Dragon was such a bad remake, but we won't talk about that.

  • Love this film!!! Just finished the book and for me this is far superior to the other adaption of it. Maybe some of you guys might find this interesting if I told I'm 14 and a huge fan of Thomas Harris :)

  • Manhunter has everything great acting, beautiful cinematography, wonderful soundtrack and good script

  • I love Manhunter but I admit, i have not seen Red Dragon yet.

  • is this the hannibal lector movie?

  • Don't take this the wrong way. But I've watched Red Dragon and it's damn good!

So.. When I see this trailer, it looks boring and like.. an old fashioned wannabe.

So what I would like to know: What is the difference? Does this one have the exactly same story just showed old fashioned or what?

  • i'm 21 and yet, I say that Manhunter is gloriously awesome and Red Dragon is pure dong

  • cinematography beautiful. Thumbs up MM

  • PwnageSoul... not attacking. It's a stating of fact. I would expect you to know the difference.

  • Classic 80's movie WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better then 2002's RED DRAGON

  • how come in manhunter like the dvd they dont show the red dragon tattoo on dolarhyde?

  • @BuellerBueller95 No idea! i saw the movie "manhunter" in VHS years ago and it was showing the red dragon tattoes on Dollarhyde. When Red Dragon came out I went to look Manhunter again in DVD and the scenes with Tatooes were gone!! I though I was crazy and then thanks to the internet I just find out that somehow they took them out...they could say whatever but I think it was to favored Red Dragon over Manhunter...But to do that totally they will need to also erase petersen ha

  • can someone clarify for me where Manhunter is in accordance of the Hannibal timeline? I've heard from different sources different stories so I'm uncertain, as I haven't seen the film myself. Is this before Hannibal is incarcerated, the incarceration, or another story of Hannibal helping the FBI whilst incarcerated? Help would be appreciated!

  • @thatsagoodone123: Story chronology:

    1 - Hannibal Rising (2007) (Hannibal's youth)

2 - Manhunter (1986) / Red Dragon (2002 Red Dragon is a remake), (1st colaboration with the FBI)

3 - Silence of the Lambs (1991) (2nd colaboration with the FBI)

    4 - Hannibal (2001) (after SotL)

  • "Frances Dolarhyde" makes Tony (Psycho) Perkins look like a fag.

  • Thumbs up if you think Anthony Hopkins is over-rated as "Hannibal Lecter"

  • @mrsszmanda07 YOU NEED HELP MATE!

  • @talisman90 Why do I need help!? lol

  • @mrsszmanda07 Did you even watch Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon or Hannibal??? Why is Anthony Hopkins over-rated??

  • @talisman90 Of course I did! & in my opinion he was absolutley RUBBISH!

  • @mrsszmanda07 That's why my opinion is that you need help! :DDD

  • @talisman90 Hahah,no thats alright! but thank you for your concern! ;)

  • @mrsszmanda07 You're welcome! ;)))

  • I haven't watched this movie yet, but I don't like this trailer. Were they all like this in the 80's? I want to watch it, because of Brian Cox, but not because of this.

  • @Caliniphr Dude WATCH IT! you wont be disspaointed! & this is coming from a 16 year old girl LOL

  • @mrsszmanda07: :D It's definitely in my "to watch" list, "Red Dragon" is one of my favourite movies so I'm very interested to see a different version of it (even if it has no Ralph Fiennes, alas) and I'm really interested in seeing Brian Cox' Hannibal.

  • @Caliniphr I have to admit I honestly did not like Red Dragon..Ijust think Ed Norton was not good..but Manhunter is AMAZING! a must see!

  • @mrsszmanda07: I've just finished watching Manhunter, and I quite liked it. I should re-watch it, but I think I like Cox' Lecter better and I certainly like Petersen's Graham better. On the other hand, I found the music unbearable and I liked Dolarhyde better in Red Dragon. I liked Noonan, but I think I liked Fiennes better, as well as his expanded backstory. Then again, the tiger scene was better in this one. LOL, I liked different things for each one, I should edit them together for fun.

  • I can't believe I've never heard of this. so does it go Hannibal rising, manhunter, red dragon, silence of the lambs, then Hannibal?

  • Without question Bill Peterson was (and is) tremendous. And the psycho killer (Tom Noonan) was unforgettable.

  • @faffaflunkie its "Petersen" actually & yes Billy is AMAZING! loved him since I was 10 years old!

  • Bushlady, ah, so the quality of a film is indicated by its box office returns. People who use this as a reasoning factor typically don't know what they are talking about.

  • Those who prefer Manhunter: Largely aged 25-45, more cultured, aware of good cinema.

Those who prefer Red Dragon: Largely aged 10-25, less cultured, ignorant of superior cinema, can't get over their "Ed Norton is God' complex.

  • @dgware Well said mate !

  • @WorleyClarence hear hear!

  • @miamiviceali Hear what ?!

  • @dgware This film is ridiculous! I was absolutely gutted to have wasted 2 hours of my life watching it. The acting is disgusting, the film does not manage to build any suspense or tension and there is no real depth to the story. The reason why Red Dragon is go good in comparison is because it offers an insight into the twisted mind and path of the killer. This film failed to do so! Spare me the Bull Shit about age groups, as this film was a flop at Box Office when it came out!

  • @dgware Im 16 & I have NEVER EVER liked Red Dragon..I first saw Manhunter when I was 12 and loved it..I watched it mainly because I was a HUGE fan of Billy Petersen, the story is amazing, the soundtrack is fantastic its an all round cult classic! Ed Norton is a MORON in my opinion cant act for shit!..so dont put people like myself in that bracket-thanks

  • @dgware well petersen and nolan where better than norton and feins!brian cox was simply good but hopkins was outstanding!ofcurce in manhunter lecter is not among the leading roles but the silnce of the lambs proved that this was wrong!

  • @dgware maybe..but anthony hopkins as hannibal = love

  • @dgware

Attacking those who harbor differing tastes in cinema. You sure are cultured.

  • @dgware what about those who prefer evil dead?

  • @dgware No one can top Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter!

  • @talisman90 This is not a film about Hannibal Lector

  • @talisman90 That's because you don't realize that this was made before he ever acted Lecter...

  • @dgware :O I don't see why would someone that thinks that E. Norton is good, GREAT actor have a 'complex'... You are a narrow minded retard(and that age thing that you take for IQ messurement is really sad).

Acting is an art and your 'arguments' are invalid :P

    (Always wanted to say that)

  • @dgware You're Spot-On! Well Said.

  • @dgware I agree, but Antony Hopkins is Lecter like no other

  • @dgware It's nor Edward Norton who's God. Anthony Hopkins is god.

  • @popmarth No, Morgan Freeman is God.

  • @Dannnthefuckingmannn really, he is

  • @dgware I'm 17 and I find "Manhunter" way superior than Red Dragon, hell it's one of my favorite movies :D

The music used is just fantastic.

  • @dgware I am 17, and while I still like Red Dragon and consider it better than Manhunter in some aspects I have to say that in the long run I consider Manhunter to be the superior film. It seems to accomplish exactly what Red Dragon did working with a little less, but with a lot more style and flavor.

  • @dgware although i appreciate how the red dragon followed the book much closer, i could not get behind norton's meek character, it was just flat. Petersen, on the other hand, really conveyed the scarred detective forced out of retirement by his own conscience.

  • @dgware Yes, I am indeed in the second group but you forgot to mention Anthony Hopkins' awesomness. Only Hannibal there can ever be.

  • @dgware im 23 i perfer manhunter ..lol i love the soundtrack too

  • @dgware Or maybe they had just grown up with Anthony Hopkins portraying Lector, and don't feel like it would be right seeing another actor play him.

  • @dgware

The actors can't act 4 shit in this movie! Culture? It's for those who lived in the 80's who likes to say "when I was young...".

You want culture, go see Ingmar Bergman instead of this crappy movie. Norton is brilliant!

  • @hersses

Tee hee! I am not quite sure if this is a clever troll or a genuinely unfortunate person in terms of intelligence. Are you 10? If you are not, I am truly sorry for your view. I am 21 myself and wasn't exactly raised in the 1980's, but that was when a lot of the modern age thrillers were developed. Norton isn't God, he is just awkward. And why would someone of age 25 or older say "when I was young" in reference to a legitimately good movie? I bet you haven't even seen Manhunter.

  • @segasnatcher

Well, look at the facts... stupid!

Awards: Manhunter got 1 win and 1 nomination, Red dragon got 3 wins and 7 nominations.

Also Red dragon got a higher rating at IMDB. Of course that doesn't say that it is a better movie, but that more people think that Red dragon is a better movie.

I have seen both movies and there isn't very good acting in Manhunter. Norton does a very good job. Se Red dragon again and look at what he goes through. Wouldn't you feel awkward?

  • @dgware I completely agree that people who prefer Red Dragon are ignorant of superior cine. But, I am 20 and prefer Manhunter and infact I hate Red Dragon/Hannibal/Hannibal Rising. So does that simply make me god?

  • @dgware You forgot a tiny detail called Anthony Hopkins, which makes Lecter's character a LOT more credible. I agree that Red Dragon is not as good as Manhunter, but Brian Cox's Hannibal is nothing compared to Hopkins. That's just my opinion...

  • @dgware whats weird is im 12 and i prefer manhunter xD

  • @dgware not sure about that one, I think Red Dragon is better and more subtle. But admittedly Brian Cox is a very, very talented actor.

  • @dgware definitely more about anthony hopkins not edward norton though

  • @dgware AMEN TO THAT! Anyone who uploads Doggies wearing shoes knows good cinema.

  • @dgware well said.

  • @dgware perfectly put.

  • @dgware perfectly put. but i liked it for years since i first saw it back when i was 13

  • @dgware not really i prefer red dragon because i love anthony hopkins acting in it.

  • @SuperKnuckels careful, they will accuse you of low intelligence if you prefer Red Dragon. All the while not one of them can get off their arse and do a movie if they tried. Lol.

  • @082076 haha shit you got a point XD. but still Anthony Hopkins is way better lol

  • @dgware interesting opinion, but you sound so ignorant stating it like its fact and attacking people that don't share the same opinion as you.

Personally i think manhunter seems like a school play compared to red dragon

  • @mayen67 now that's true!

  • @dgware Yeah Manhunter is a sophistocated film , i'm 15 and i prefer old cinema to the money making pants of today

  • @dgware Apart from the fact which movie is better, this comment shows that you are neither cultured nor particularly intelligent.

  • @dgware actually i could care less if Edward Norton was in it. i just prefer Anthony Hopkins over Brian Cox.

  • @dgware Manhunter: 1986

    Red Dragon: 2002

No wonder you would say that...

  • @dgware

Well, as a matter of fact, I'm 21, but I must agree with you, dude! Those movies still rocks!

  • @dgware and those how prefer "Hannibal"?

  • @dgware

    thank you

  • To me, this movie reminds me so much of the series Miami Vice... strictly regarding the style and music. I've been a fan of Michael Mann ever since.

  • The Silence of the Lambs is far and away the best of any Hannibal Lecter film.

  • I love/loved this film.. the music most..

  • I love these early Mann films full of style and understated.

  • MM makes such sexy looking films.
