I just got the AA2 R5 (Regular, non-tactical version--like the UI of that version better than this one) and I'm amazed at it! I can't believe how bright it is, especially for its size and weight! It will make a great wilderness/camping light and an all-around household light for me! Thanks for the review Nutn, this light is the bomb!
Ordered the Four Sevens AA Tactical R5 for my AR and was looking for a mount to use for it. I saw your previous video for the Shot Show 2012 where you said that you used a KZ mount but never specified which model. I was also looking at the VLTOR mounts...what would you recommend? Thanks.
I'm dying to get my tax returns so I can get one of these lights to use for dayhiking/camping, along with 550 cord, SOG NW Ranger, 1st Aid Kit, Camelbak bladder and other hiking supplies! Thanks for the review on this sweet light Nutn!
Well after your review Nutn I bought one of these about a year ago been my primary light and have carried every day since. I also just recently bought a X series for my sister and brother in law for their house. I have dropped this thing so many times but never stopped working.
Now comes the story I was doing some work and had my aa2 hanging by a string over my head after about 30 minutes i went up to take it down and the rubber bulb had blown up like a balloon when i tried to unscrew the cap it popped and ripped the rubber just called 4sevens guy asked a few questions and then said that he would be shipping a new one out. Thats it no hassle no well why did you do that just ok we will send you another plain and simple. I LOVE 4sevens.
@espada1895 For my o-rings and threads I use Crosman's "pellgun oil", which lubricates rubber as well as metals (designed for pellet guns) without deteriorating the rubber. I believe "3-in-One" oil is also safe for rubber, but don't quote me on that.
Just ordered the Quark X AA2 Tactical and Quark X 123-2 Tactical, how do you other owners think it would hold up to striking with it in self defence? solid enough construction of internal components etc?
@nutnfancy I just got my R5 (regular) in the mail yesterday. Wow! This light puts my maglites, Streamlight Scorpion and Coast Tactorch to shame. This is my first 4Sevens and will definitely not be my last. Just an excellent light. Thanks for the great review!
another great video. love the light, i always have the AA2 tactical and a fenix TK12 when we go to the field. my wife hates it when i watch your videos cause she knows i'm about to buy something else. good job again and keep them coming.
Kind of upset with this. I bought this flashlight upon your review, My 4sevens AA2 while trying to find my dog in the dark while camping using it on turbo. I heard a pop, Flashlight is no more. Turns out, the rubber tail cap popped out.( I tried to push it back in) Did not pop back in. Very disappointed. I spent $60 plus. I spend alot of money based on your reviews. I'm very sad and will wan't a full refund.
@wakepro720 Can't be upset with Nutn... you must understand that production will not always produce flawless products. Silly instances do occur and you simply have had some bad luck bud; one faulty set back is fixed with a replacement from the company in no time at all (if not the company, the third party supplier)!
I used to see these videos posted by you and say to myself "noo!!! bring more gun footage!!!" But then the power was out today for like 8-9 hours in Ogden, and it really got me craving a nice reliable/smaller LED flashlight. This one is the bomb and I can't wait to "rely" on it :)
I like the looks of the Quark AA2 the best of all the 2AA LED lights. What I don't like about the Quark is that you have to cycle through the levels to get to the one you want. In my case I work indoors and would use the high end of the low scale more than 90% of the time, but still want the max mode some of the time. But mostly when I hit "ON" I want just the high end of the low range and I don't want to have to clickety-click to get there. One click. I'm describing the Fenix LD-20.
7075-T6 aluminum is stronger than 2024-T3, but more brittle and more prone to corrosion. 6061 aluminum is interesting because it is a type of aircraft grade aluminum that is weldable. Not sure how it compares to the others in the corrosion catagory.
Went with the AA2 R5 Edition, I'm thoroughly pleased. Brightness is sufficient (though I expected it to be a bit brighter, but I'm new to flashlights. I'm also using the batteries it came with) It's ability to throw light is PHENOMENAL. My neighbor has a tree about 30-35 yards tall, and I can illuminate the top of it from 50-60 yards away. Absolutely amazing.
Just ordered this light a few days ago, I'm a part time security so I figured that this will come in handy. This review is what really sold me on the quark. Thanx Nutnfancy! Great vid!
Most people I know who use a tactical LED light like this want the two primary modes to be max and strobe. But with this light if you want to use say moonlight mode, you have to completely reprogram the light, and then when you're done using moonlight mode you have to reprogram it again....
Make a "primary mode override" sequence and this is a great light, but without it it's only so-so in my book....
I returned my AA2 tatical and exchanged it for the AA2 X.
This flashlight could be the "perfect" light except for one major flaw: in order to use any of the other 6 remaining settings (beyond the 2 programmed ones) you have to not only reprogram the light just to use another mode, but then you have to reprogram it again to your two mains modes!! This is a huge inconvenience to say the least. There should be a "programmed mode override" (i.e. push and hold the tailpiece button for 10 seconds) that allows you to roll through the other modes.
Hey Nutn I just bought a 4Sevens AA2 Tactical with the R5LED with 205 lumens at max brightness. While watching your video I noticed that my beam is no where as tight as yours, is that ok or should I be expecting a tight beam like your and send mine back
@MrSheepdogWarrior - Not sure what spec sheet you were looking at, but the Quark-X lights actually have longer runtimes and higher output than the previous emitter versions. They are much more efficient than the older emitters.
For example, a Quark-X dual 123 version can do 160 lumens for 4 hours. The regular Quark (XP-G R5 dual 123) does 85 lumens for 4.5 hours.
Using a bit of math, the Quark-X 160 lumens for 4 hours would be the same as 85 lumens for 7.5 hours. 160/85x4h.
@leukotic -I was looking at the spec sheet directly from 4sevens.com for the Quark AA^2 R5 vs Quark AA^2 "X". The R5 version has Moonlight: 0.2 OTF lumens for 30 days while the X series has Moonlight: 0.3 lumens for 15 days. The R5 has Low: 4 OTF lumens for 5 days while the X has Low: 2.7 lumens for 3 days. On max, the R5 has 205 OTF lumens for 1.3 hours while the X has 280 lumens for 0.8 hours. So the X is definitely better on max but the lower modes don't have as much run time it seems
@MrSheepdogWarrior Dont just look at the low/med/high look at the lumens for those modes. 47s upped the output for med/high, moon/low is about the same. Run times are very good on the xml. med went from 22 otf lumens on the R5 up to 65 otf lumens on the xml. Run times are going to go down with more output. But the xml really shines when on high output, the run times are amazing. R5 on high is 85 otf lumens (4.5 hrs) vs xml on high 160 otf lumens (4 hrs). out of space but you get the point
@MrSheepdogWarrior Mine is amazing. A little wider throw in the AA2 version makes the light more usable. I'll take the reduced run time for the added useability.
@MrSheepdogWarrior I honestly don't like the "X" series as much as the "R5" model. The "X" has less throw since the LED circuit takes up more space which compensates the deepness of the reflector. The "X" series is a flood light rather than a thrower. The "X" may be brighter but they are not as efficient. I personally prefer the R5.
@jbeatles99 i need some advice. i am stuck between the aa2 r5 and x. in order of importance are runtime, throw, and brightness. runtime and throw being very important. i like the x's brightness but have heard the throw is not that great. also, runtime (according to 4/7's) is better with the r5. i will most likely buy an aa body to lighten the load for backpacking. i use eneloop batteries normally and lithiums when backpacking.
I bought this light 5 weeks ago and it is the best light I have ever owned. Brighter than the preon 2 but uses AA batteries instead of CR123s. A great choice of light for EDC, jogging, backpacking, night hiking. While night Hiking I actually blasted some people with it on max mode (200 lumens) from around 25 yards and they got kind of annoyed at me because it completely blinded them. That's a pretty good way of saying how bright this light is.
Seems like the Quark 123² R5 version is a direct competitor of the Surefire L4 Lumamax (which I currently own). Similar sizing, takes two CR123's, nice protruding button, forward clicky, and almost 2x's brighter. I am definitely considering getting me one of these, cause while I love my L4, no way am I going to spend almost $200 to replace it if I ever needed to.
Plus, unlike my L4, the Quark can handle the voltage of rechargeable 123's!
Does anyone know if the Quark AA2 tactical comes with a red lens? I am a military member and need to have a red lens, so if it does not... is one available?
I've just purchase a Quark AA² Tactical R5 today. When i switch it on & off continuously it'll stay on the first 3 times but on the 4th & 5th time the light won't stay on when you release the button. On the 6th time it'll stay on again, then the whole cycle repeats again. Can anyone tell me if this is normal? Thanks!
Highly recomend the deep carry pocket clip, it's better than the standard version (I find it comes lose), for keeping the light firmly in the pocket while running.
I EDC one of these. A little big, but not enough to be a big burden in my opinion. The shape is streamlined so it doesn't bulge in the pocket, and as Nutnfancy points out it weighs little. YMMV, some guys just can't tolerate much hanging off of their pockets. I love the "moonlight" mode, turn the thing on at night and you won't zap your eyeballs. Enough light to see where you're going and what you're doing. Nice selection of output levels, excellent battery life if max output used sparingly.
The Filzer I-Beam X4 actually outperforms this flashlight in brightness and price. The only thing extra the 4 7's does is it has different flashing modes, such as strobe, SOS, etc. I'm fairly sure they put all the money into the packaging. This is a case of buying a store brand cola vs. buying pepsi. They both do the same thing, but one costs 3 times more and has pretty packaging.
Sorry, you're wrong, the Filzer I-Beam X4 throws 100 lumen vs about 200 lumen compared to the Quark 4/7 AA. Beside having the extra functions like SOS, strobe, and different brightness, the Filzer only has one mode. The biggest differences is the 120 month warranty on the Quark 4/7 vs only one year on the Filzer. I believe you get what you paid for.

@Nutnfancy, I just bought an SU-16ca and put a rail on it (it's from Red Lion, I got a full sized rail for my SU just for that 2'nd kind of cool and more functionality), and I'm wanting to put a nice light on it. What's a good 1" diameter light for my money?
After seeing your review of this light and from seeing my cousins, i just had to buy one. I just ordered it from PFIDude and can't wait until it comes! It will be my first good flashlight, and I'm super excited. Thanks.
P.S. You reviews break my bank (which isn't too much since im 14). I bought a Benchmade 741, a 940 Osborne, a Next Gen KABAR, and a Cold Steel SRK on your recommendation, and i love every one of them. Thanks TNP!
I just got a Quark AA regular. Pretty good, but judging quality wise against my Fenix TK20, I kinda wish I went for a Fenix LD10! Also check out the Fenix camping lampshade, which fits my Quark nicely and makes a cool lantern.
Nutnfancy, I am trying to decide between the Fenix LD20 and the 4Sevens Quark AA2 Regular as an EDC light. Please provide some advice that may aid my decision. Also, is there preflash before the modes on the Quark? If so, when do they normally happen (for what modes)?
@READComment1 I would go for an LD10 or LD20, probably the 10. The preflash happens everytime, you only notice once the mode is dim enough too make a difference in a given situation, because it starts bright and ramps down quickly.
@matt4270 Thanks for the reply. So the preflash happens everytime on moonlight and low mode... that defeats the purpose of the low modes (preserving your nightvision).
The problem with the LD20 is that it loses its low (and maybe medium) mode when powered by new lithium cells -- I do not want this to happen either.
Which light do you think I shoul get, based on this information? BTW, I don't really need moonlight mode (but it's good to have anyway).
@READComment1 I don't know if I'd buy another 4sevens light. I like the quark AA, but the switch feels junky, and the threads on the tailcap were pretty rough and pinched the o-ring. I also have a quark mini CR2 I like, but it mode skips alot. For a single AA, I'd look at a Nitecore D11 next time, or 2 AA, maybe a Fenix LD 25 or LD 20. My TK20 is a tank, and very nicely finished, but maybe a little bulky for EDC!
@matt4270 Yeah, size is a real concern when considering an EDC light. I love the compact EDC-suited size of the Fenix LD10, but its runtimes are not as impressive as the LD20 (I am aware that the latter uses 2 AAs and not 1). I don't know which one to get!
...we should probably stop spamming the comments section of this video...
@READComment1 Yeah, I guess we hi-jacked this thread! ; ). I went with the Quark mostly because you can buy an AA or 2 AA battery tube from them for $20-, so it's pretty versatile.
I just ordered the AA2 tactical with a single 123, deep pocket clip, Eneloop AA rechargeables, and spare tail cap switch. =) This is replacing my Streamlight Stinger that I have used in aircraft maintenance for the last 4 years. Also I was looking for versatility.
Sealed beam, adaptability to put on a long gun, different battery and length options, reliabilty...looks like a pretty good light! Looking forward to see waht it could do.
Hi Nutn...GREAT REVIEW, very thorough and detailed, (did you dunk the light in a pool or the NWB, because I noticed you mentioned it was submersed in 12ft of water?).....actually when I watch your vid reviews I usually do them late at night, so the wife doesn't hear them with the sound down and she is fast asleep...I had to go to the Home Depot website to pick one up...the 4Sevens site had sold out when I went to order...This light looks like a winner...I really like the programming aspect.Thnks
so If I have tight and loose settings programmed I cant access ANY of the other modes without reprogramming? Or can I access other modes by clicking the switch when both settings are programmed?
Nutnfancy hope you doing well! I was curious about the differences in tint with the new S2 vs the R5. I have read various articles on this subject but nothing clear on the subjects talking about different batches of color. Thanks in advance I know you will shed some light on this subject after the 2011 Shot Show but I'm in the mood to buy now I just sent my sister out of the country for 11 months in 11 countries backpacking with the LD20! Can you say field test?! =)
Nutn, thank you so much for this review! My gf got me this light for Christmas and I absolutely love it so far. I was doing some research on 4sevens site and found out that, just replacing the tail cap for $9 does not give you the regular UI. That firmware is designated from the emitter head, but its still a cool feature that one could mix and match their lights.
Do you need to program the Quark AA2 tactical in order for it to function, or can the memory ability be ignored and any light setting be chosen every time it is used?
@00116332 The way I understand it is, there are 8 modes on the flashlight but you can only access 2 of them at a time. One is set when the bezel is open and the other closed. You can't just cycle through the modes like a normal quark or preon.
I remember using big ole hunka junk plastic flashlights for finding earthworms during thunderstorms when i was a kid, and these modern lights amaze me. They're so tiny and yet so powerful, and durable! Awesome. Pure Awesome.
I just purchased the AA2 Tactical last week and love it. I EDC this light and am very impressed. Note that I did have a problem with the clicky switch not activating the light and thought I would have to exchange it. However, after talking to the very helpful customer service department at 4Sevens, all I had to do was tighten the retaining ring in the tail cap -EASY. Highly recommend the light and won't leave home without it. Thanks Nutnfancy for the high value vids.
Just got both the Fenix LD20 and Quark AA2. Going to send the Quark back on Mon. I had big prob with the O-ring's seating on it. Maybe it's a 1 time thing I'm not sure. I guess to be fair I will talk with 4seven and let them decide for me. I love the feature's such as moonlight and the beacon. Excellent beam and throw. the fenix red lens fits bad though. Might need the tactical dremel tool to gently sand out the inside of it!!
@BombriderKong The light cones fit and also the camp diffuser and flat diffuser but the red lens is VERY tight. I'll take a dremel sander to the inside to help it fit better
I'm glad I chose this over a Surefire and against my arrogant Surefire fanboy friens urgings, because this blows their lights out of the water for sometimes less than half the price! Not to mention I don't have to spend an arm and a leg for batteries all the time.
Great video Nutnfancy, just got my AA2 R5 tactical and it is great. I find myself lookin at your videos to see what else could be useful for me. Keep making great vids. Thanks from PR
Would you be able to use the moonlight mode as a reading light when you are inside of a tent, or is it too dim for that. I could see reading with the low power mode, but I was just wondering. Great video by the way, definitely going to buy more lights from 4sevens.
I would be happy if I found Nutnfancy's flashlight!
If you engraved it "Nutnfancy" that would go into second type of cool to have it, even though if I knew that you were the owner I would probably try to give it back to you.
Just ordered a Quark 123 2 tactical. Shipped this morning around 8:35am about 9 hours after i ordered it. Thanks for turning me on to such a killer company and product! Your reviews are totally the reason I bought it!
Meh... my thought is that an 2aa size light is perfect for edc. Yes, something like a preon 2 or a fenix LD05 (which I have) is smaller... but not by much.
I think with a "bigger" light like a LD20 you gain way more run time and better brightness and throw (especially with the newer versions)
Nutnfancy--just so you know, you should never point your camera at a bright light source like a flashlight or the sun as it can damage the sensor. Hope this helps.
I just got mine in the mail! It rocks. 4Sevens is great guys. Top quality, 100% satisfied. Absolutely love the strobe function. It's really blinding and disorienting if someone is using it on you.
hey nutnfancy...you need to do a review on the Fenix ld10 and the 4sevens Quark aa on a vs kinda talk info...(i know i know...we all ask so much from you...wish we could clone you to get more videos out of you :P ) awsome video btw!
I ended up picking a Quark AA mini recently. Is this a good larger flashlight, or should I just go with the Turbo version? I'm not going to be weapon mounting, and this would be for camping/ just a home flashlight
Nutn, do you think that the AA2 Tactical is too big to EDC? I'm trying to decide whether to get the AA2 Tac or a Preon 2. I know the Preon 2 will be just fine for EDC roles, but was not sure about the AA2 Tac.
It depends on what your EDC-gear is if that's how you wanna say it.
Personally I have a small backpack with me at work and most of my freetime. That way it's no biggie to carry, for instance, a LD20 and a Leatherman Charge TTi.
Though, without it I carry a Streamlight stylus pro.
Always remember that Nutn is big on weight. Seems he will save a few ounces whenever he can. There are plenty of people who carry lights as big as the AA2 Tactical, and even bigger. All a personal preference kind of thing.
I have the AA2 (not tactical) and have EDC it for about 6 months. I love it, and use it alot at work (as a paramedic/firefighter) and still edc it when I'm off duty. (in the front pocket on a belt clip, not in the holster.
@talonawdtsi90 Hey there! Just a data point here - the preon 2 is 0.8 oz, and the AA2 is 2.2 oz. For me, that difference is negligible. The AA2 Tactical is 5.8'' long, and the preon 2 is 5.05'' long. That .75'' of length is probably the biggest turn off as far as edc ability goes, but that's still cool with some guys. Lastly, the diameter difference is only 0.3''. That's also fairly negligible, for me anyway. But with the extra capabilities you get, the AA2 tactical might be the better choice.
Nutin, I dont know how much the Chinese are paying you. But seriously dude American products are way better. Check your Candle power forums. Ask them I'm sure they will tell ya likewise. From 2.37 to 240 you say got out and spend your hard earned money. On chinese shit............ Sorry not me buy American........
Way to go 4sevens for adding a "bare bones" packaging (the green packaging) that is very functional, and saves you a few bucks (I bought a resealable bag for mine and chucked the box anyhow).
Why reverse the pocket clip? Because you can clip it to a hat band or the brim of your cap (the AA^2 is a bit long but still works) and never need a headband.
Also note, you cannot run the standard emitter with double CR123... you will burn it out.
Highly recommended by Nutinfancy? SOLD! what is good for the TNP is good enough for me hehehe. I am so getting one of these light...... Thank you nutn I am going broke hahaha jk. Great review my man. Two thumbs way way up bro.
Well, I did it. I bought the Quark AA2 Tactical from PFIDude. At first, I was a little flustered with the UI. But I went to 4Seven's web site to watch their demo video and I re-visited this video on the UI portion. Problem solved! It's just one of those things you have to get used to. It's a great light. Much better than the Mag Lites that I have been using for the past 15 years.
I recently sold my LD20+ to get this exact light with the new deep carry pocket clip.
Love the moonlight mode and the bezel (deep) down carry. Always hated the entire emitterhead sticking out of my pocket bumping into all sorts of things.
Nice vids!! I was watching a bunch of your vids earlier and thought I saw you mention the Fenix LD20 pocket clip somewhere where you had an LD20+ w/ pocket clip on the screen. Maybe I haven't watched far enough into this vid yet.. but anyway.. At 10:25 or so you discuss the pocket clip of this light and the LD20+. I just got an LD20+ and I agree, the clip moves around to much. I was hunting around the house for a small thin piece of rubber (like the *****continued*****
**continued from above post*** -rubber in a mouspad or something) to slip under the clip to see if it would tighten it up. So after trying a few different things that didn't work so well I stumbled upon a rubber band.. It works perfectly. It tighterns the clip up very well. I made a little vid, I'll arttach it. Anyone with a Fenix LD20+ that uses the pocket clip should try this, it makes a huge difference. *cant post a vid to this "response post".. Will attach to next post------>
I ordered the X version today :D Its my second light, the first I bought 2 days ago!!

@espada1895 For my o-rings and threads I use Crosman's "pellgun oil", which lubricates rubber as well as metals (designed for pellet guns) without deteriorating the rubber. I believe "3-in-One" oil is also safe for rubber, but don't quote me on that.

ORNonprophet 3 months ago
This flashlight could be the "perfect" light except for one major flaw: in order to use any of the other 6 remaining settings (beyond the 2 programmed ones) you have to not only reprogram the light just to use another mode, but then you have to reprogram it again to your two mains modes!! This is a huge inconvenience to say the least. There should be a "programmed mode override" (i.e. push and hold the tailpiece button for 10 seconds) that allows you to roll through the other modes.

Hey Nutnfancy,
What do you think of the new Quark "X" series? They are supposed to be significantly brighter, however their run times look significantly reduced.
MrSheepdogWarrior 5 months ago 7
@MrSheepdogWarrior - Not sure what spec sheet you were looking at, but the Quark-X lights actually have longer runtimes and higher output than the previous emitter versions. They are much more efficient than the older emitters.
For example, a Quark-X dual 123 version can do 160 lumens for 4 hours. The regular Quark (XP-G R5 dual 123) does 85 lumens for 4.5 hours.
Using a bit of math, the Quark-X 160 lumens for 4 hours would be the same as 85 lumens for 7.5 hours. 160/85x4h.
leukotic 5 months ago
MrSheepdogWarrior 4 months ago
@MrSheepdogWarrior Dont just look at the low/med/high look at the lumens for those modes. 47s upped the output for med/high, moon/low is about the same. Run times are very good on the xml. med went from 22 otf lumens on the R5 up to 65 otf lumens on the xml. Run times are going to go down with more output. But the xml really shines when on high output, the run times are amazing. R5 on high is 85 otf lumens (4.5 hrs) vs xml on high 160 otf lumens (4 hrs). out of space but you get the point
weez82 4 months ago
@MrSheepdogWarrior Mine is amazing. A little wider throw in the AA2 version makes the light more usable. I'll take the reduced run time for the added useability.
yellow599rider 2 months ago
@MrSheepdogWarrior I honestly don't like the "X" series as much as the "R5" model. The "X" has less throw since the LED circuit takes up more space which compensates the deepness of the reflector. The "X" series is a flood light rather than a thrower. The "X" may be brighter but they are not as efficient. I personally prefer the R5.
jbeatles99 2 months ago

That's a pretty good way of saying how bright this light is.
ductape95 6 months ago
Hey Nutn, what’s your pick for a weapon light for an AR15 and an AK47?
ArmedCivilian556 6 months ago
Seems like the Quark 123² R5 version is a direct competitor of the Surefire L4 Lumamax (which I currently own). Similar sizing, takes two CR123's, nice protruding button, forward clicky, and almost 2x's brighter. I am definitely considering getting me one of these, cause while I love my L4, no way am I going to spend almost $200 to replace it if I ever needed to.
Plus, unlike my L4, the Quark can handle the voltage of rechargeable 123's!

TheEmarbe 10 months ago
@TheEmarbe

I just got a Quark AA regular. Pretty good, but judging quality wise against my Fenix TK20, I kinda wish I went for a Fenix LD10! Also check out the Fenix camping lampshade, which fits my Quark nicely and makes a cool lantern.
matt4270 1 year ago
Nutnfancy, I am trying to decide between the Fenix LD20 and the 4Sevens Quark AA2 Regular as an EDC light. Please provide some advice that may aid my decision. Also, is there preflash before the modes on the Quark? If so, when do they normally happen (for what modes)?
READComment1 1 year ago
@READComment1 I would go for an LD10 or LD20, probably the 10. The preflash happens everytime, you only notice once the mode is dim enough too make a difference in a given situation, because it starts bright and ramps down quickly.
matt4270 1 year ago
@matt4270 Thanks for the reply. So the preflash happens everytime on moonlight and low mode... that defeats the purpose of the low modes (preserving your nightvision).
The problem with the LD20 is that it loses its low (and maybe medium) mode when powered by new lithium cells -- I do not want this to happen either.
Which light do you think I shoul get, based on this information? BTW, I don't really need moonlight mode (but it's good to have anyway).
READComment1 1 year ago
@READComment1 I don't know if I'd buy another 4sevens light. I like the quark AA, but the switch feels junky, and the threads on the tailcap were pretty rough and pinched the o-ring. I also have a quark mini CR2 I like, but it mode skips alot. For a single AA, I'd look at a Nitecore D11 next time, or 2 AA, maybe a Fenix LD 25 or LD 20. My TK20 is a tank, and very nicely finished, but maybe a little bulky for EDC!
matt4270 1 year ago
@matt4270 Yeah, size is a real concern when considering an EDC light. I love the compact EDC-suited size of the Fenix LD10, but its runtimes are not as impressive as the LD20 (I am aware that the latter uses 2 AAs and not 1). I don't know which one to get!
...we should probably stop spamming the comments section of this video...
READComment1 1 year ago

00116332 1 year ago
@00116332 The way I understand it is, there are 8 modes on the flashlight but you can only access 2 of them at a time. One is set when the bezel is open and the other closed. You can't just cycle through the modes like a normal quark or preon.

Meh... my thought is that an 2aa size light is perfect for edc. Yes, something like a preon 2 or a fenix LD05 (which I have) is smaller... but not by much.
I think with a "bigger" light like a LD20 you gain way more run time and better brightness and throw (especially with the newer versions)

@nutnfancy
VinceFull 1 year ago
@talonawdtsi90
Always remember that Nutn is big on weight. Seems he will save a few ounces whenever he can. There are plenty of people who carry lights as big as the AA2 Tactical, and even bigger. All a personal preference kind of thing.

@talonawdtsi90
I have the AA2 (not tactical) and have EDC it for about 6 months. I love it, and use it alot at work (as a paramedic/firefighter) and still edc it when I'm off duty. (in the front pocket on a belt clip, not in the holster.
CoolDre80 1 year ago
@talonawdtsi90 Hey there! Just a data point here - the preon 2 is 0.8 oz, and the AA2 is 2.2 oz. For me, that difference is negligible. The AA2 Tactical is 5.8'' long, and the preon 2 is 5.05'' long. That .75'' of length is probably the biggest turn off as far as edc ability goes, but that's still cool with some guys. Lastly, the diameter difference is only 0.3''. That's also fairly negligible, for me anyway. But with the extra capabilities you get, the AA2 tactical might be the better choice.
Wingsfan7 1 year ago
@talonawdtsi90 Go with the AA (1 AA), for EDC, and then get a 2AA tube and the battery end caps for about $25-, and have a great, high value system!

@MCyammer117
I recently sold my LD20+ to get this exact light with the new deep carry pocket clip.
Love the moonlight mode and the bezel (deep) down carry. Always hated the entire emitterhead sticking out of my pocket bumping into all sorts of things.

Great video! Will the Fenix diffuser tips, wand, or red filter fit on the Quark?

@joebarbra Im not sure but I think if you sand those cones a little bit... Worth a shot...

@joezbackwith2gatz The cones do fit, even without sanding, if you push them hard enough, just don't push too hard
