  • Sirens sirens everywhere! Everywhere I look I see sirens, I look at siren videos all the time, I hear sirens even though there are few sirens in Canada, I can't help it:...I like sirens.

  • does the going in your basement procedure work during tornados??

  • @MegaGansta24 Going into your basement helps if the house doesn't collapse on you. If the house is simply blown away, then yeah, a basement will be very safe.

  • What model of whelens are like this??? we have alot in chillicothe ohio.

  • @toiletsrock44 Whelen 4004 or 4003. Not 3016, because it only has four horns.

  • ^wierd siren^

  • honestly tornado's freak me out the sirens are kinda scary to i live in gadsden alabama and every summer they play our siren like 10 times and i think to myself wheres the tornado and how the hell am i gonna be able to get the hell outta alabama before i get killed by the thing. but nice video its always nice to hear a tornado alarm test :D

  • This may sound stupid but hearing this makes me get so ready for Tornado season, the sirens just add to the fear in a big way but of course during an actual tornado the only thing im thinking of is where is the tornado located and where my family is and a basement

  • I wrote to my cousin who lives in Oklahoma City and she said she hears them all the time. It must be very scary being in a tornado. do most homes have an underground basement for protection? I should ask her.....

I guess tornado season is here for you then.

  • @nuzzi7 Either a basement, saferoom, or cellar. I live near Tulsa which is 100 miles NE of OKC and ours are tested every wednesday at noon, they are so loud you can hear them 4-6 miles away. Back in the 90s when I was in elementary, we had one on the playground and it went off during recess, you plugged your ears. It is spooky to hear them go off and its not noon wednesday.

  • This is strangely comforting. Is it just me who feels this way? xD

  • @StickyLickins i live in edmond OK and its just one of those things that doesnt negatively or positively affect me. i just hear them and im like "meh guess there's a tornado somewhere" then i go on the roof looking for it lol...

  • oh my gosh, does it last this long? for real??? wow Of course I have never seen anything like this where I live!! (Calif).

  • @nuzzi7 yeah, they test them every Sat at noon for 3 min. in a real tornado watch they play them for the same time, but if the tornado is close, they play them longer. idk if you know, but oklahoma gets a ton of tornados from march-may

  • I love seeing these things go off. Best way to start the weekend by enjoying the sirens :)

  • better than Moores sirens

  • @MrKalebtheoufan Not in my opinion. Moore still has operational Thunderbolts.

  • Start = Whoop

Then Suddenly Change to = Alert

    LOL

  • @scienceboy639 no, OKC sends the activation tones twice to make sure every siren gets activated

  • @21zachrwd just sounded like it. jesus -.-

  • @scienceboy639 lol just saying

  • lol now i know the sound of okc sirens my husband is from there and he told me how it used to wake him up right out of his sleep

  • These sirens are terrible in comparison to the air raid sirens we had beforehand.

The thunderbolts I believe they were called, could be even heard from the inside of your house or building during a heavy storm. Plus one thing I noticed when in the Mustang/Yukon areas, these sirens knock the Cell phone network. Whats up with that?

  • my friend was of and it was looking bad outside and i play this video. He got scared

  • what day of the month do they test the sirens in OK city?

  • @minkyblack Every Saturday at noon. It's on my weekly agenda lol

  • i thought this would be louder its oklahoma. the state... that should have louder tornado sirens

  • @JimindaNorth OKC used to have beast sirens but they replaced them with these plastic loudspeakers.

  • haha i just moved here and there's one of those around the corner of my house at a fire station...hoooow annoying!

  • Nice Vortex! I've filmed the one at 29th near Council, one near 15th and Morgan, and one near 44th and Morgan. I have 72 views, you, 72 thousand...lol

  • Good old Oklahoma

  • Gotta love living in OK!

  • It has 2 wind ups.

  • sounds like 4008

  • are they horns or speakers

  • four 400 watt speaker drivers in 1 big horn.

  • classic. i live in michigan but i would be like LETS GO! C'MON BOY! since i've been in the ole' t'alley a couple times. nothing against you folks but wow! we still have the thunderbolts

  • but is cleared and sunny

  • It's a test. Duh.

  • This is a Vortex-R4

  • great sounding also check out tornado siren in fox river grove

  • this 1 is neat. Better than mine in Detroit

  • is this a dual pulse siren? is this a new model?

  • No its a Whelen 4004 its not that new

  • Those are actually tone-only Vortex R4s in the rural areas of Oklahoma County. They have voice capable WPS-2810s within the city limits though.

  • i live in moore

  • Comment removed

  • Why did this whelen wind up twice?

  • Double activation signal

  • nice username lolz

  • what type of siren is this?

  • Whelen 4004

  • lol i just showed this to my friend and shes like wow theyre loud

  • Haha... that's great! :)

  • nice vid. what are those sirens in the background?

  • all whelens in oklahoma city.

  • omg press pause and play again and again very quickly and it gets really annoying LOOOOOL

  • i wonder if you can broadcast a message thru that thing or music , lmao

  • you can. As for music you'd need to filter the bass out completely or the siren would break, compression drivers can't handle that.

  • Hmm sounds like the activation signal was sent twice, or it was a delayed reflection from a repeater.

  • It's always like that as far as I can recall. A short burst then it goes off.

  • Yeah i hear Oklahoma sends their signal twice. I can understand, i hear that you get some pretty nasty twisters over there. Wouldn't want a siren to miss an activation signal now would we

  • i miss oklahoma so much

  • me too

  • Imagine living next to this while your REALLY hung over! LMAO!

  • Why am I so attracted to sirens?

  • I am too! haha

  • @puzox Because there AWESOME

  • @puzox I think tornado sirens are the coolest thing in the universe. I dont know why i am attracted to siren too.

  • @puzox

I started to wonder what torando sirens sound like.. rofl I've never been in a torando situation before. Now I know just incase i stay up one night. And the Torando siren rings so I can wake up my parents.

  • Kansas City is lame, all we have are Federal Signal 2001's, and there are some Thunderbolts and T2s left in some suburbs, but newer areas are goin to 2001...at least we dont have any whalens thank gawd (dont really care for them)

I live In Missouri as well

  • this whelen actually sounds cool

  • Haha , Yeah it does.

But it doesn't at 12:00 Pm every saturday then it's just annyoing

  • yeah, it could get annoying after a while. i remember listening to Norman's sirens every friday i think? i cant remember if it was friday or saturday at noon. they have TBolt 1000ts, SD-10s, t-128s, Thunderbeams, and like 3 xt22s on the WAY outskirts by lake thunderbird.

  • yep its friday's i live in norman.

  • cool. lucky. lol i miss norman, im planning to move back there someday and train at that huge meteorology school.

  • I got one of those like a block away from me. Their super loud and annoying!

  • the siren had 2 wind-ups

  • nice whellens

  • Nice sound

  • I've seen this particular model in Fairfield, Iowa, but never saw a rotating siren that stopped & switched directions.

  • its oscelating-the wires go up to it, and if it rotated all the way around, the wires would snap. it basically goes all the way around, and then changes direction at a certain point.

  • they have the same model in Knoxville Iowa too i lived there half my life..i'm 12 now btw. haha. but i've never ever seen one that rotates either.

  • the activation code was sent twice.

  • Kansas City is lame, all we have are Federal Signal 2001's, and there are some Thunderbolts and T2s left in some suburbs, but newer areas are goin to 2001...at least we dont have any whalens thank gawd (dont really care for them)

  • i like the whelen on wail tone and wish whelen and t-bolts combined

  • How far do whelens travel--sound-wise that is?

  • 1 1/2 miles

  • that will probably never happen

  • The activation code was not sent twice. They sound like that everytime. The windup is the most attention getting sound so they are programmed to do that. Been that way for years

  • too bad they never will whelens 4ever

  • "If your siren's a-failin', chances are it's a Whelen."

  • activation code sent twice?

  • no another one not too far away had its wind up at a different time

  • gotcha. awesome vid

  • My nephew always says "Lunch Time" when he hears the sirens! :)

  • lol

  • Is this a Vortex R4?

  • in biloxi ms it test every wensday at 12:00 p.m

  • Ahhh, the state song of Oklahoma!

  • @texarkanajoe lol amen

  • @texarkanajoe same with iowa exept for cedar falls we are still chopper

  • @texarkanajoe Haha! Never thought about it that way. So true!

  • i live in okc that stupid sound always wakes me up :(

  • its sunny

  • cant u read "weekly ***TESTING***"

  • Hah, I've lived in Oklahoma my whole life and let me tell ya it doesn't take long for you to master imitating that sound. x3

  • The State of Minnesota tests every first wednesday at 1PM

  • This wakes me up every Saturday afternoon.

  • I think the activation tone was sent twice

  • I love how it starts off with a whoop tone

  • No the activation cade was sent twice.

  • That Whelen Sounds great. It must be lowd

  • the Thunderbolt is so much better then this piece of junk, Thunderbolt for life

  • where can i buy 1 of these lol

  • no. the more important question is. how can i put one of these on my car?

  • haha hell yea

  • Amen to that! That's why I chose that tone to record on the vid I have of the 4004. It really does get your attention well!

  • i live in eastern colorado and they test our siren everyday at noon.

  • if thats weekly testing it must suck to live near there

  • On the contrary, if you love tornado alley and sirens you enjoy hearing them. If anything, for a storm chaser/photographer, it's depressing not to hear them. ;)

  • weekly testing?!

  • they went off alot yesterday

  • ya i just got back from oklahoma this weekend and there was a whole outbreak of tornadoes saturday

  • There's one on Hefner and N. MacArthur down the street from where I live. They do it every Saturday at noon for a minute, we call it the noon whistle. I've grown up with it so I like it, it lets me know that it's still working just in case a real tornado comes. It also tells us it's time for lunch. :)

  • they have some talking sirens in some of the new neighborhoods in okc... ive heard them.. they say "a tornado has been issued for your area.. seek shelter immediately!" and its a womans voice that echos..CCRREEEEPPYYY!

  • Fort Worth, Tx Has one as well that does that but it's a man's voice.

  • What area do you live in? I have not ever heard them!

  • I live in Del City and the Mid-Del/Tinker areas test theirs on Wednesday at noon.

  • i live in oklahoma but i cant hear sirens going off... they are to low

  • where do u live, i live in kingfisher

  • oklahoma city :)

  • man my ears hurt when i turn up the volume on the headphones.

  • i live in oklahoma city and thats still annoying

  • eerie... that should be the "end of the world" siren as well

  • i remember every freaking wed. i would hear these...saved our lives though in the may 3 1999 tornado.

  • These Whelen's weren't in place in 1999. It was around 2001 when Oklahoma contracted with Whelen to install 180+ sirens. Before this system, they used Federal Signal Thunderbolts and possibility over electro-mechanical sirens.

  • they proboly need to test it everyday do to hthat they r in tornado ally

  • They either test it weekly or monthly. Unfortunately due to Oklahoma's weather, tests are frequently canceled and put off until the next Friday. They'll only test on days when weather isn't expected.

  • Oklahoma City tests their sirens once a week, weather-permitting, on Saturday, at noon. And believe it or not tests aren't canceled all that much. The sirens have been up since about 2002-2003, and have already proven their worth through numerous tornado warnings and a few actual tornado touchdowns. And that comes from someone who actually lives in Oklahoma City.

  • Awesome, they test rather frequently than in comparison to Sapulpa/Sand Springs/Tulsa/Oakhurst that test monthly. Do the WPS 2800 sirens in down-town talk?

  • I Agree,My Cousins Live In Edmond,Oklahoma

  • its so awesome how it winds up and then shuts off.

  • what happens when the siren towers are hit by tornadoes??? who warns the siren tower people????? what if theyre hit by lightning or nukes??

OK - im being stupid....just wondered.....

  • I have always wondered the same thing.

I guess we just have to hope that they start the signal before anything happens.

  • the sirens have battery back up so they wont shut down. They only shut down when the EMS sends out the code to turn them off.

  • sounds like an A 440 if you're musically inclined

  • Is this siren can do a voice, then its called a "WPS-4004." If this does not have a voice, then its called "Vortex."

  • vortexes are kinda cool but no as cool as the

wps-4000 series somewhat because of the voice capability on the wps

  • i like how those sirens shut down

  • This thing doing whoop would be AWSOME.

  • Yeah, that or airhorn! :D

  • In minnesota our sirens go off every 1st wed of the month.

  • they go off every 1st monday of the month at 11

  • something in my house in another room is harmonizing with that sound at the same pitch and it sounds really weird... lol.

  • wow. every saturday. That must be real annoying.

  • no not realy.

its quite fun to go outside every saturday at 12 to listen.

    its so cool.

    i love our sirens

  • federal 2001's r better.

  • It's a shame they use Whelens. Poo on OKC!

  • I know especially vortexs

  • does it ave voice?

  • yep

  • NO. vortexes DONT have voice.

  • nice wind-up

  • run for your life i was wattching this and the one down the street turned on to at the same time

  • seems as if the rotator needs oil and the wind up needs to be checked

  • What's really funny is when you have a visitor from out of state. They don't know that the sirens are tested every Saturday at noon. When the sirens go off you can dive into your closet and yell, "holy shit a wall cloud!!" and your friends will dive in the closet too.

  • is it a whelen vortex r? JAKE497

  • its a 4004

  • well it might be a vortex.
