its not about how many people see the art. it's about the artist knowing that it's there. knowing if he goes there he will see his art work. and if someone coincidentally goes into the sewers and sees the art work it would create a mixed feeling of mystery and appreciation

 When I was a kid living in SP, there was a very good graffiti artist who died of aids in the late 80s, I forgot his name but he was one of the first to do street art in SP.

He's not painting it, he's removing the soot to make particular forms - therefore he's cleaning the parts that are removed, he's not using sprays or anything.
