@SevenFootMonster22 They did them live back in the day as they did them at buried alive 96, wrestlemania 14, this episode of raw and a raw in 2004 in the kane goldberg match. however they do add them in like they did at the royal rumble in 2006, you can tell when it's added in because its a purple bolt.

@ryanrk0 Exactly, and they react to the explosions. They couldn't actually have a real lighting bolt just show up whenever it can. So, it's just added special effects for the taped show.

And you can pretty easily tell just by looking at it that it's not CGI, post-effects etc - They probably use a low powered Tesla coil or something...or would that still kill people? I don't know, but the effect is definitely practical and performed live, not done in post-editing
