1960 years used to be great years for turbine engine car...It was a decade of folies and audace....Howmet,Chrysler in USA...Rover,Lotus in U.K...Socéma-Grégoire in France...
@Emiins it's a fairly simple system. the engine is comprised of two separate systems: the jet engine out of a military helicopter, and the gas turbine system. the jet engine provides power for the compressor that feeds the gas turbine with fuel. the gas turbine then transfers power through reduction gears to the wheels directly so bigredmostatruck was right there is no gearbox. the variable speed of the turbine allows the car to have the same effect of different gears without a gear box.
@bigredmonstatruck not a problem. glad to help. it would be a very strange car to drive. load as hell too. but a very cool machine. thanks for the vid!!
@AnAngryPossom I had a few more videos of it but my computer died and I lost EVERYTHING! the only memories are the ones in my head and the videos on Youube!
@bigredmonstatruck oh that's too bad!! well the videos are great, no doubt about that. and memories are really what keeps a lot of these cars going. thanks again for the upload.
@lucky011395 yeah that's what i was describing. I was saying that it was the engine out of a helicopter set up as a gas turbine driving the set of reduction gears to the wheels. It's essentially the same system as the Chrysler Turbine car just less powerful
Tryy typing in howmet Jet car into google, comes up with some cool information with vehicles prototyped with a jet turbine. coolest car i've ever seen
Anyone tell me how the jet engine drives the wheels? Is it connected in some way to a differential? Please reply, really curious.

Nothing personal, but that doesn't make alot of sense.
see: marineturbine*com click "special projects"
This car was later run on an Alison C-18 which we use extensively.
Maybe you're confused by Wikipedia or something, but it has no transmission but it does have axle gears.
Your comment implied that it had a jet helicopter engine with a turbine system added.
ALL serious military/commercial helicopters use jet- turbines.
NONE need "turbines" added.
Maybe it was just your choice of words.

Part 1
Actually, you sounded more like you were describing a thrust jet engine converted to a turbine.
There are "free" turbines and Turboshafts.
Free turbines can run "in gear" with the brakes locked like an auto. trans.
Turboshafts cannot.

Part 2
I can go into further detail but let me simply say
that the Chrysler engine was especially built for "The Bronze Blowtorch"
and the other turbine cars they built.
Suffice to say that turbines are not over yet.
The Indy Car people want them back, now.
Inside info,not Internet.

Can someone explain me... how is the turbine power transfered to the wheels?
Emiins 1 year ago
I'm not quite sure, it looks to be a direct drive, without a gearbox. I think that is why the back wheels are lifted up to start and stop it

you can also look up this car "The Howmet Turbine"
on Wikipedia.
