@rodemicrophones Nice video. When you're doing the sweetpot measurements, how far apart are the monitors? And how far is the monitors from the person's head to the monitor? In that triangle position I am speaking of.
I've really enjoy watching all the 12 episodes of "Rescue My Studio"; I've learned a lot, thank you. Let me say something about the comments made about this gentleman's decor and speakers. Not everyone has the means to purchase top of the line gear... or the gear you think is worthy. Funny thing, people seem to find a ways to "work" with what they have until they can do better. If you feel that strongly, reach in your pockets and buy Glenn what you think he really needs and hire a decorator. :)
you can use whatever you have available.. egg crates, towels/bed sheets as drapes.. dude you gotta try new things to get the sound you want. read up on acoustics, and its good to have a fair understanding of geometry... once you start makin money off your material, then upgrade...
I work on small screen. I prefer to move the seating position on the mid of the small room. I used to have a small and made sure I could walk around my DAW. Down side power cable om the floor. But I can clean my whole room regularly. Get speaker off the wall by 2 or 3 feet, you solve 30% of room problem without cost.
Do the acoustic panels need to be sound absorbing or deflecting? Hope that makes sense?? Contoured or flat i guess is what im asking. Is there an advantage of using either in a large or small room.
@daivd333woso The acoustic foam aids in absorbing unwanted reflections in the room, so you are able to hear more of what is coming from the speakers and less of how the space is colouring or distorting that sound.
hey francis hope you can visit northern california...quick question my room is 11 foot by 13..do you think the room is to small for a project home studio?i need some pro advice thanks francis
@krazyeknine57 There are obvious considerations for smaller rooms, but that's not to say you can't get a great sound. Again it's all about the fundamentals of your position within the room and then the speaker placement in regards to the listening position. Have you applied for a studio resuce?
Some advice that should have been given is to actually spend the money on high end monitors because even though you helped treat his room, those entry level speakers might as well be iPod headphones. You cannot expect mixes to translate to other systems on the ass worthy fq response those have
@TriviumCrusader17 Good point, but the premise of Studio Rescue is to try and help amateur studios get the most out of their existing equipment with as small an outlay as possible. Yes this often means the addition of acoustic treatment but alongside speaker placement this is one of the most frequently overlooked aspects of home studio setups and a small investment here can reap rewards and add value across all areas of the recording chain.
@rodemicrophones I understand the premise of these videos. All i meant by that was, I wish that he had given him some PERSONAL advice on the importance of the monitors themselves. High end monitors like opal or genelec are expensive for a reason. However, room treatment, speaker placement and THE ACTUAL LOUDSPEAKER themselves complete the holy trinity of sound. In my opinion its all or nothing. Though these are in fact amateur studios, so i suppose mission accomplished. P.S. LOVE RODE MICS =]
@TriviumCrusader17 Thanks, you're spot on there and Francis does spend extra time with the studio owners outside of the show. Hope you enjoy the rest of the episodes and be sure to check out the other RØDETV programs.
