  • At the two high schools I've been to there were no lockers.

  • woah that's a nice school O:

but even though my high school wasn't that great, it had the best students in the area, our school was so mellow, whenever we'd get new students form different schools they'd all be surprised of how chill it was <3

  • I go to ryan high by dallas and we're a pretty good school!!! :)

  • cool.....american highschools are the best....and you can have a driving licence at 16?:O

omg....in my country Romania and mabie other country`s in Europe you can`t have a driving licence for normal cars if your not 18....but you can have a licence for small cars at 16....:P

  • They just rebuilt my high school and it's amazing now. I still like that open-air feeling of California schools though.

  • I love american highschools they are really, really big and awsome and u can have a lot of fun

  • isnt so amazing compared to the skool i went to in india.........except we had shitty uniforms......,.and yeh.....underage kids drove to skool without a license bcoz they cud always bribe the cops....huh....good ol india

  • I wish I went to a school like this. School in London is a disappointment.

  • These American high school makes my school in England look incredibly shite! Most schools have to wear a uniform which is just gay, the only vending machines we have there only dispence water, my schools cantine sucks, the entire building looks old and crappy, oh and there are chavs everywhere...

  • in Greece gor lunch we have a shitty sandwitch

  • NAH GO NEW ZEALAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Guys, most US high schools aren't half as pretty as this. I go to a high school where my Spanish teacher sometimes doesn't even show up for work, we get bomb threats literally EVERY week, the bathrooms always have a thick haze of smoke, and there are occasionally race riots.

  • @leach51395 I went to 2 high schools - one in Dallas TX which was a big, concrete block (needed for the heating and A/C needs) and one in Del Mar, CA, which was a wonderful, open campus much like the one is this video. Southern CA schools are very nice, and not particularly the norm for the US as a whole.

  • @leach51395 shit seriously? bomb threats? who gives them :L my school is nothing like yours it slightly less cleaner and we have bomb threats but there always fights swearing and beating up and people chuck chairs at teachers.

  • @OoCrazzzyoO i go to freedom high school, you might have heard about it in the news

  • whats the song at 4:10

  • @Drakka100 Dope Nose by Weezer

  • Hmm I wouldn't call it an "American" school since there are many types of schools in America xD Each state is like a different world ~_~

  • @olzabl123 the songs in this video? At which time? I can tell you...

  • i totally hate the uk,and i was wondering does anyway know if i can move to america when i am 18? i am 15 atm but i don't know what i would do to get a visa to live in america any help plz?

  • @limeadam I think it's fairly easy for a UK citizen to get a holiday working visa so you can come to the US or Canada and work for a few months - many UK students do it during their gap year. To stay longer, you'd have to apply for a visa, which I think usually involves sponsorship from a company

  • @limeadam your not the only one trust me im 16 and i hate the uk to i soooo want to leave in calanfonia and go to a american high school i love america sooo much

  • @limeadam I bet it's just where your living in the u.k i'm 15 aswell and love the u.k. Maybe you neet to explore the u.k a little more.

  • You guys are lucky, we have to wear uniform for EVERY school in the UK.

  • i wish i went to school in america... the schools are ok but we have to wear uniform :L

  • god i hate my country (uk)

  • @TheRockybalburke ohhhh i knoww its shit isnt it !! for 1 thing when i am walking to school its dark and cold and another thing is we dont get to wear what we want we have to wear a certain uniform but luckily its not blazer and tie !! and the teachers in england just cant control the class because we are so noisey and distruptive ! i mean we have some people who swear at teachers and stuff and they dont do anything about it !!

  • @soapfan97 lol wow do you go to my school, you just described it exactly. and true the shit weather makes it very depressin

  • @TheRockybalburke yes lol x ahaa and yeahh it does make it depressing !! what year are you in then ?

  • @TheRockybalburke yeahh it is isnt it !! hehe, and yepp it is close to nottingham. but worksop is a very small town !! and it hasnt like got many shops so i usually go to medowhall, if you have ever heard of that ??

  • @soapfan97 nah lol not hear of there , skegness is tiny too if as you know i usually just go Lincoln city to do anything :P

  • @TheRockybalburke ohh ok and yes i havee heard of lincoln city lol x and medowhall is a huge shopping centre i think it has every shop you can think of !!

    ぜんぜんわからない!="I don't understand anything!"

  • @mikanvlovev25 My t-shirt? :)

It's a joke... But it always makes Japanese people smile when I wear it in Japan. :D

  • @myargonauts Yes!

humm.....I don't know why that.. But It's very funny XD I thought "!" makes this word more funny...Sorry for my poor English

  • where are YOU from? wow..she's 15?!! she looked like 17 to me^^ and i'm 16 ^.^

  • @oOSunyySnowflakeOo Brittany is my niece and now she is 20 and going to college.

  • @oOSunyySnowflakeOo sry..i just thought because she did'nt do her driver's licence yet.

  • @oOSunyySnowflakeOo yeah - she got hers later than most kids in SD - you can get it at age 16 in CA

  • lol my high school sucked so bad compared to this.

  • Only non porno video about a high school

  • @Unit06JAW haha - that's a good thing I hope :)

  • it sounds amazing to visit an american school...in germany the schools are creepy...

  • HOLY CRAP ITS MY HIGH SCHOOL! O.O That's so awsome!!loI San Marcos High School is old and smaller than most of the schools in the city(even though it doesn't look like it on the video lol)

pretty cool vid btw! an it's so cool you get to teach in Japan! =D

  • american high school looks better than english school. We arnt even alowed to eat outside!!! and we gotta wear gay uniforms. fuckin bullshit

  • @fartsam08 I gotta wear pink shirts for my year in my school! I'ts shit! :(

  • from what Ive seen California high schools are much different period from other school in the country. ie more freedom to be outside, interact with other students in different grades, just better overall.

  • I went to high school for 1.5 years in Texas and 1.5 years in California, and I would say they schools were very similar in many ways. Yes, the CA school was "outdoors" and more open, but my TX school had more spirit and school activities/clubs.

  • The more school spirit probably comes from the fact that TX takes football much more seriously than CA. No one does it big like TX. Your schools in TX and CA are leaps and bounds better than what I have seen in OK, NY, and now GA.

  • @myargonauts My high school was the outdoors 'California' type campus... except in the middle of Massachusetts... where we have winter. It was pleasant for the few months of the school year where it was warm, but less so on those bitter cold days. At least one person a year would injure their ankle on the ice while walking to class. And it was a nightmare for the janitors cleaning up all the melting slush.

Although I gotta say, I prefer the cold to the heat, but I think I'm just weird that way.

  • Wow, this is a really good insight on american high schools, would you reccommend spending time at an american high school as an exchange student?

  • Well, I made this video for my Japanese students who are learning English and about America, so I don't often get asked questions about coming to America...

But yeah - I'm sure you'd really enjoy doing a semester or a year as an exchange student in America.

  • boring...

  • me? the video? American schools? my niece?

  • damn

i'm at a UK school and we have only like 2 room's worth as a library...they have a whole seperate building... and since i'm in the sixth form (same grades as a british college would give just learnt in aschool enviornment) we do get priveleges like our own canteen and we can leave at lunch and we have free periods quite often and can go home during these if they are after lunch... can American students do this too?

  • I don't think you can leave school unless you're in a work program or go to a college for special classes, etc. We did have off-campus lunch once a week when I was in HS, but I don't know if they still do that

  • ah right lol i suppose american schools have got all want insde food wise etc.

  • @Ktiger305 depends, at my school seniors are allowed to leave campus at lunch to get whatever they want. Free periods depends on the student.

  • i wish i was american... british secondary schools are hell. It looks so good, and so big and so lenient! My.. we arnt even allowed to leave the canteen with our food :(

Ive decided.. im moving to america to learn :) ha ha !!

  • you mean all British schools aren't like Hogwarts? haha - But I'm sure there are some cool things about your school...

My schools in Japan are somewhat strict, but the kids still managed to find ways of enjoying themselves.

  • Haha, looks a bit different to UK school where you cycle or walk to school in the rain and wind, often in the dark during the winter... and plonk down in a disruptive classroom with a teacher who couldn't give a monkeys about their subject :))

  • We had to deal with that and potentially lethal avalanches off our school roof in the winter.

  • @highmetal1984 I know exactly what your talking about

  • Thanks for the video Jason.l used this today in my class to teach Japanese students about American school life

  • very cool! :)

  • This makes UK High schools look like shit.

  • @forced2witness secondary schools not high schools.

  • Comment removed

  • @forced2witness Does it fuck UK high schools are better the buildings are better how many american schools get £40/$70 million schools?

  • @forced2witness you are right, im in UK and schools are boring and driving licence is from 17 years old, and in UK air soft guns are from 18 years ;d in america i think like a kid ;) UK is very security country, very boring country and secend time boring!

  • @forced2witness In the UK we call it secondary school & yeah your right! I wish I could go to an american high school!!!

  • Not all American schools are remotely like this. the high school I go to is really ugly and we have 11 classes everyday. We don't get to drive to school until we are 17 and seniors and we don't have a cafeteria outside. I don't have uniforms either but I wouldn't mind wearing one. Much more convenient.

  • WOW - 11 classes??? how long is each class?

  • Oh I guess technically I have 8 classes but 11 periods. like my schedule is:

    Period 1-Phys.Ed

    Period 2-AP Physics

    Period 3-English

    Period 5/6-Psychology

    Period 7-lunch

    Period 8/9-Calculus

    Period 10-Economics

    Period 11-AP European History

  • we have the same classes but i dont have PE or EH

  • and it's 45 min. and lunch is 30 min.

  • @princessasdfghjkl wow 11 classes i live in the uk and my school has 5 classes it used to have 6 and you dont want to wear uniform its horrible!

  • @princessasdfghjkl i live in the UK and we only have 6 lessons a day which start at 8:50 and they are 50 mins each and we finish at 3:10 but thats including break time and lunch. we have to wear uniforms but ours is a t-shirt and jumper with a logo on it ! but we are turning into an academy because people in our school are very badly behaved ! :( but it dosnt help as we have bad weather, well we have snow that is up to my knees at the moment!

  • what a school!!! compared to aussie schools anyway.

  • Really good teaching aids, Jason.

You've accomplished your goal (what you set out to do) for your Japanese students.

  • song at 2.55 is by suzanne Vega called Toms Dinner

  • ive never seen a video which is entertaining and stupid at the same time

    well done

  • Whats the song at 2:55?

  • Tom's Diner by Suzanne Vega

  • Weird, but I found that video really entertaining and I'm an American in Highschool.

  • This video would is actually pretty interesting. I wish my teacher did this for my Spanish class.

  • thanks for the nice comment. My Japanese students enjoyed watching it too. :)

  • australia i 16 you can get your Learners then 17 your provisionals then your opens at like 18

  • man there so lucky for football we had to practice in ugly terrain so i t can better prepare us for the away games when the home teams field is ugly

  • I heard high schools in america have like swimming pools and other stuff. WHY CANT AUSTRALIA HAVE THEM. ==''

  • Not all of them, but in the one i studied, they did have a pool, but we walked like for 3 mins to get there, it was outside the school grounds, but still was the school's pool, also the football field was outside, aside of the pool. but i must say, that in mexico they got a better high education, i studied 5th, 6th and 7th grade in mexico, and the rest in the usa, what they tough me in mexico in 5-7 grades, the usa school teaching tough me in 9th grade.(high school)

  • what the hell!?!?!?!?!? my high school doesnt have a pool............ i wish i would sneak over there this summer

  • yeah most (emphasis on most) american high school don't have swimming pools. They're mostly in the hot states like California, Florida, Texas, etc. Even some of those don't.

  • cool I want this school too..

    in germany :D

  • When a person from another nation says that the United States sucks, I simply respond by asking them the question; "WHICH STATE?" Certain states are going to be doing great, while others are gonig to be an absolute crap-shoots. Oh, and for the record, I really don't eat at McDonalds, I prefer Subway. :)

  • omg i want subway so bad right now......

  • Superb idea to help test over listening and reading comprehension, also a good cultural lesson. Thanks for the continued ideas, they are proving most useful!

  • i think it's because americans are mixed with tons of different races and ethic groups, whereas the british are just that - british. that IS their ethnic group.

  • i've noticed caucasian british people look different to caucasian North americans.

  • so do you seriously dont have to wear a uniform?? i thought they just didnt in the movies!!! that sucks, im from australia and we have to wear them!!

  • just hold out until university good buddy, no uniforms there :-)

  • @Westham97 im from the UK and we have to wear them too !! ;( sucks right ! ;P but ours is polo t-shirt and a black jumper with a logo on it and any black trousers u want !

  • america has the most beautiful girls but it is a fuck country make to much war fuck amerika EU 4LIFE but the school is nice!!!

  • Yes, and every Austrian has been a saint!

    cough-Hitler-cough

Seriously though, America has been pretty fucked up recently. Oh well, every country has its ups and downs throughout history and America will be on the right track once we learn to leave other nations to their own devices. Unfortunately Obama appears to be just as ignorant as Bush in that regard even though he is less gung-ho abount blatant militantism.

  • The Americas High Schools looks great! I'm from Poland and it looks whole lot different here :) Awesome stadium I wish to play on one of these :) And this whole band thing o_O (i'm not interesed in that kind of things but this is great :D ) . Maybe I should do a video like this about Our High Schools .. Take Care! :)

  • yes please - a video response showing your school would be cool. :)

  • ya sure looks great!......to bad our school system is a failure. I don't care how nice my school is, if the national average for graduation is only 70%, somethings obviously wrong.

  • The main problem is that we have this crazy notion that everybody is intellectually equal and try to cram the same curriculum down everybody's throat. Unfortunately such is not the case.

Most other countries seperate the academic underachievers into seperate schools around highschool age so that the smarter kids can be prepared for college. America needs to realize that some children are, in fact, better off left behind.

  • i live in Canada and i must say that the US has great looking schools and so much spirit with nice big stadiums.

  • thats a really good school for public !

  • is this a public or private school ???

  • public

  • im going to live in america next year im sooo excited :D

  • Great video i want to live in america beacuse english schools are crap but oh well maybe i`ll go to college in america

  • lol nice video

next year i will be in america for 10 month i hope it looks like this school :)

  • the best thing about this video is them seats that are attached to the tables..typically american ... what if somebody cant fit into it tho?

  • I'm sure with the surging waistline of many American kids, they can make other arrangements if you can't fit into the desk, or if you're handicapped in some way and need a special desk, they'd work it out.

Being a fat adult, I had this problem all the time in certain lecture halls at my college campus, where the little trays were just a wee bit too tight for comfort. :)

  • gosh you're all so lucky... At my school in belgium we have like 7 or 8 classes a day. I also have to wear a uniform(which I hate...) . We only get to drive at 18. but we are allowed to drink at 16. Which I find useless because I don't think alcohol is anything special...I'd rather drive at 16 and be allowed to drink at 23...

  • 21* is the drinking age here in the USA, not 23

  • ah , sorry I thought it was 23. But still I'd rather drive at 16 and be allowed to drink at 21 :)

  • but you never drunk before 21? cause here drinking age is 18 and most ppl start drinking when they are 12 - 13 years old....

  • lalmix what country areyou from..drinking age is 18 in ireland and most people start at 12-13 too

  • spain dude look at my profile

  • im irish

  • ye i know u are irish im saying im spanish, and ye ppl here start drinking very soon.... got a friend that started when he was 11...

  • u no reading the coments (i thing im the only geek who does that lol) i never knew that so many people are intrested in american schools :D it makes me happy!

  • yep - this video is one of my most watched vids

  • This Is Cool I Didnt Think That American High Schools Actually Looked Like This, They Are So lucky!! Im From A Part Of England Called Leicester And We Dont Even Get Lockers And At My High School We Have To Wear A tie , It Is So UnFair, We R Not Aloud To Drive Until We R 18 But We Leave Scool When We R 16, But The Law Has Changed So Everyone In Yr 7 Downwards Have To Stay On Till they are 18 lol, Im Nearly Finished Scool Now Anyway So Yeah

  • That's cool that you can show your students that video. I go to school in the US also. Though our cafeteria is inside and so are the lockers.

We have an upstairs and downstairs. Upstairs are history classes and English classes. The upperclassmen (seniors and juniors) have their lockers up there. Downstairs are the offices, the gyms, athletic center, music classes, tech. classes(Engeneering, Achetecture)the Art classes, math classes and the other science rooms.

    Only Seniors can drive.

  • cool - thanks for the info

  • our lockers are really run down because everyone ends up punching it. pretty cool to see how schools differ from each other. imagine if there was only one school in the entire world and everyone went to that school, it would be pretty hectic and is 100% positive for fights.

  • of course, i just couldn`t imagine that terribel situation!

  • i wish i went to an american highschool u can wear wateva u want and not sum ugly uniform lik my school has to wear lik we get given out to if we wear make up and were made ake it off

  • uniform is my love

  • uniform shows formality :)

  • american schools looks wicked, i tired of wearing a uniform and they get there license at age 16!!!!, in australia you get your Learners at 16 then your licence at 17

  • be clad in holland you only get youre licens when youre 18.

but whe are alouwd to drink when where 16

  • Wow im from britain and our school is horrible compared to american ones. Ours are dull, but maybe thats because of the weather. We dont have a homeroom either, or lockers so we have to carry our bags around everywhere, all day. We have 5 lessons a day which last 1 hour each. Thanks for the video it was good to know about high schools, because when im in my middle 20's im moving over to michigan. :) xx

  • in mi skl we ave lockers

  • Haha I live in Hawaii and go to Leilehua High School and we only have 3 classes a day each about an hour and a half long. Our school is like a campus and we don't have lockers. Thanx for the vid and that's so cool that you're a teacher in Japan!!

  • I went to two high schools myself, and the 2nd one I went to was similar to yours. We'd have 3 classes a day, two hours each - two before lunch and one after lunch. And there were no doors on the classrooms... very hippie 60s atmosphere...

  • what where is she livin i live in cal too but my school is half that size and we dont even have lockers for our stuff so i cary everything. like 3 books each day. and i live in the suburbs.

  • i love american schools they sooo much better than the ones in aussi thanks for the tour !!!

  • Hey, I'm Lauren from Michigan.

My school is about the same as yours, minus the large pavillion area I see. Plus most of our athletic complexes and our eating are are inside since about 1/2 of the school year it is below freezing. We don't have a home room either, but our lockers are a fair bit bigger than yours. In michigan though, back in middle school, you always have a homeroom. My class size ranges from 15-20 in the advanced classed and 25-30 in the normal classes.

  • Hey Lauren -

Thanks for the info. Always good to know for my Japanese students.

Britt is starting univ in Colorado this fall, so she'll be having some colder temps too.

  • id love to live in america!

  • Aw She's so pretty! Wow I really wish I lived in America.... their high schools look so fun! And it's sooo sunny. I really want to go to an American high school before I leave school. English ones are so different.

  • wow american high schools look well cool if only i could go to one, cus english schools are like well shit compared to them!!

    :>

  • god there schoollsss look fun

  • haha 18 and u still cant drink

  • u can here in Australia when ya 18

  • i like the video but you might manna get a better video recorder for better quality, maybe its just youtube messin with it, overall 5 stars

  • also what was the name of the school again i couldnt hear it to well in the video

  • at 0:58, the name of the school is written on the screen :)

  • wow dont i feel dumb

  • wow some states are different i used to live in new jersey but we had homeroom every dad but now i live in north carolina and we have homeroom sometimes but in california you dont have homeroom at all thats interesting

  • Wow, you get to teach in Japan! You are so lucky! I wish I could teach English in Tokyo too! You have become my hero of the day. XD

  • Really cool video for your students. I think the words did go away too quickly for your students to read, but I think it went good.

  • hey, i am an international students whose studying in Singapore. i was just turn 16 n am lookin forward to move out to the states. currently, i'm studying in Singapore and i don't like being here. the school sucks and i have to pay more than thousand dollars just for the living costs.

so, i just wanna ask, how much is the cost living in CA? how's the school registration process for the admission of foreign student in CA or in public schools?

thks b4. really need your help. :)

  • hmmm... California can be pretty expensive, but it depends on the area. School is free, but I think you have to be a resident. Unless you want to go to College in America - many opportunities for foreign students in California.

  • i live in california myself but its pretty expensive depending on where you want to live. but honestly right now isnt a very good time in americas finances so if you are going to want to get a house now is as good a time as any because the prices are dropping in housing. idk about registration but if u look on the web you could probably find something :D (and schools freeeeeee)
