It is up to the the legue of the federation to decide if the referee made mistakes not the player or his coaches. For him to say it like that is completely wrong and rather arrogant. If the fans wanna act like jackasses let them , the game will be called and they can go home early.

Reminds me scene from the french movie Asterix and Olympic games, where the Roman guy bribed the referees of the Olympic run and instead of running around the the stadium, he just crossed it directly to get to the finish and won :) Everyone saw he was cheating, but if referees don't say anything... there is nothing that 'everyone" can do. Sadly this is very often the case in sports, where big money and politics make rules, and sports and honour has no value, sadly.

The ref wasn't even that bad in this game. He called the game how you are supposed to call it. And you are telling me that Latvia is a hockey country, when they act like this at hockey games. Refs are as big of a part of a game as much as the players are. And when I looked up latvia hockey record, all that came up was this game and how poorly the LATVIA fans acted. Canadians know how to support their fans, even their refs Refs arent perfect but their doing their best so give them some respect

Hey man, there's no better way to get scrambled eggs. And the latvian guy kinda has a point... At games here you scream yourself hoarse whereas at some of the NHL games I've been to it was like being at a pub - everyone just yammering away to each other like it was some sort of social club...
nhl is american and commercialised. we mean business when we cheer for our COUNTRY (see this year's past World Junior Tournament). and just wait till vancouver 2010, then you'll see how feeble your fans look in comparison to ours on the world stage. i'm still willing to bet though that a leaf game is louder than any other latvian game, but for sure you guys can't compare when we cheer for our country.
oh ya? is that why this past world juniors tournament held in Canada absolutely destroyed all sorts of attendance records? did you even whatch the coverage? Ticket Sales, Stadium Attendance, TV ratings, Online Viewers and Arena Sound Decibel records were ALL shattered. And these were our JUNIORS playing, not even the real deal guys and we showed that kind of support. Let me know when latvia or any other of these soft european countries break the records we set this year.

See, I gave a concrete example in talking about this past world juniors tournament. Again, if you were watching the coverage, and you should have been seeing as how Latvia was IN the tournament, you would have known that each game broke a new record because they mentioned every single game. THAT is SOLID undeniable evidence because you heard it too.

The fact that the Latvians even play at Canada's level is amazing, when you consider that Canada is about 500 times more populated than Latvia. Latvia was the winner.
Canada would've beaten Latvia anyway... but that American referee totally favoured Canada. And I do understand how upset those Latvian fans were. I got there one day afterwards and they told me that the noice from the crowd was way over the limit on the decibel measurement tool. The limit was 114.. it reached that in a second. I heard that the amount of money thrown on the ice was huge too.

I was there and I can say that the noise was almost as unbearable as the referee.
It was an unfair match judged just so that latvians couldn't do anything at all.
I remember one guy walking inside with two huge cups of beer. Before the guards could do anything about it, the cups were flying straight at the judges...served them right though

In 2004 the same ref was judging the WC semi-finals match up between Canada and Slovakia while Canadian ref was judging another semi-final between USA and Sweden.
The game ended 2:1 after a goal that was non-regular due to tripping of SVK goalie.

nhl is american and commercialised. we mean business when we cheer for our COUNTRY (see this year's past World Junior Tournament). and just wait till vancouver 2010, then you'll see how feeble your fans look in comparison to ours on the world stage. i'm still willing to bet though that a leaf game is louder than any other latvian game, but for sure you guys can't compare when we cheer for our country.

oh ya? is that why this past world juniors tournament held in Canada absolutely destroyed all sorts of attendance records? did you even whatch the coverage? Ticket Sales, Stadium Attendance, TV ratings, Online Viewers and Arena Sound Decibel records were ALL shattered. And these were our JUNIORS playing, not even the real deal guys and we showed that kind of support. Let me know when latvia or any other of these soft european countries break the records we set this year.

See, I gave a concrete example in talking about this past world juniors tournament. Again, if you were watching the coverage, and you should have been seeing as how Latvia was IN the tournament, you would have known that each game broke a new record because they mentioned every single game. THAT is SOLID undeniable evidence because you heard it too.

Canada would've beaten Latvia anyway... but that American referee totally favoured Canada. And I do understand how upset those Latvian fans were. I got there one day afterwards and they told me that the noice from the crowd was way over the limit on the decibel measurement tool. The limit was 114.. it reached that in a second. I heard that the amount of money thrown on the ice was huge too.

Oh I remember this game all too well...
I was there and I can say that the noise was almost as unbearable as the referee.
It was an unfair match judged just so that latvians couldn't do anything at all.
I remember one guy walking inside with two huge cups of beer. Before the guards could do anything about it, the cups were flying straight at the judges...served them right though
