I think within any wider community, something that is unknown or "foreign" will automatically be stigmatized. When "honor killing" reaches headlines, people (the media) will try find something that excludes the people involved from the wider community. In this case it will be the family being Muslim, whether this has anything to do with the honor killing or not, it's irrelevant because it's news and people don't want to associate themselves with killers...so the scapegoat becomes Muslims.

There was a recent honor killing in Turkey. A 16 year old girl's family buried her ALIVE because she had talked to a boy. They did in in the name of their religion. Muslims need to seriously address these issues and not brush them under the rug like they usually do.

I agree that "honour killing" is a contradiction in terms. But many of the "honour killings" I read about are committed by members of other religions (eg Hindus). Where do you get the idea that they are "always" blamed on Islam?

When a person commits an "honour killing", the blame is usually laid at the feet of the individual and sometimes their culture - not their religion. The wikipedia article on honour killings makes this clear.
