You did a great job on the harvester, very resourceful thinking. I am doing a limited amount of worm farming. This helps me understand the harvesting part of the operation. Great Job!
@timothywiesner Thank you for the nice comment I think I will rebuild this now that I have a welder and make it better it is now DC powered with chain drive motor. For this I had to use wood scraps, drill holes using bolts and really that is a pain in the butt trying to fabricate a design so with this little stick welder I think it can be better designed.
@BikeManDan1 just friction..it needs to be redesigned I was in a hurry and wanted to get it done for a farmers market demo. I like the OPEN end idea meaning no shaft in center but the draw back is to have to figure out how to rotate it so I went with this idea...not greatest build but it works ok ;)
@mrbluenun I need to do that yes...its getting colder here in the North but maybe I can get one uploaded before snow flies. I wish I did the drive system simpler but it it what it is. Thanks for reply :)
@mrbluenun when it warms up here I will get a video of it harvesting worms, it is DC powered now and not sure if I like the setup (the drive) but it is what it is. If it had a better support underneath the rotating part it would be better it gets heavier when you loaded a few shovels into it. The good news is it does help get worms harvested much quicker out of a worm bin than to do it on a tarp on the floor.
@dmacosta1 Thank you..it's now DC powered with electric lawn mower motor. When harvesting worms it's now easier for me because now I can run it from a battery or a battery charger while I put worm bin material in.
Nifty rig! It reminds me of the root crop washers used on some vegetable farms, except instead of having worms tumbler out the end, root veggies come out clean.
thank you..it was a pain to get it right and still has some minor issues but that's the way it goes when you have no plans only a vision. Bottom line is 1/4" screen is best since it does not clog up like the 1/8".
Great job reusing items. I love renewing old items.

You would do better with skateboard wheels! Your wheels don't look like they spin so freely.

@barnesdanr those are roller blade wheels with "bearings" they work well

@soilfit Nice! If you improve it could you post a video? You're genius for building this! Maybe add a motor to automate and increase the process?
barnesdanr 4 months ago
@barnesdanr now it has a DC motor and runs off a cordless screw driver battery or solar charged battery

Great job using recycled materials one of the better designs around with the dc motor and a few other tweaks will really be great

Looks great, well done
Is the bike chain engaging the rim just by friction/tension or are there teeth installed on it?

You say it is a simple design but, it took a genius like you to think things through and put it all together, well done!
I really like the simplicity of this, and in particular the use of old bike wheel to form the cylinders! They are strong!
Do you have a video where it is working?
