OSu
I was supposed ot do this kata for my brown belt, but my sensei forgot. Thank goodness for that too, I had forgotten it :O I know it now, thank you. I'll be ready for first kyu :D
@1NX9 in traditional Goju Ryu tensho is paired with another kata Sanchin, which when used together are the basis for conditioning the body for hard and soft movements.
far as i kno, there shouldnt be any ibuki breathing in tensho at all, maybe in kyokushinkai, i dunno, but not the traditional version of the kata.
so how do you feel when u use this during a kumite or training? dizzy or more focused n aware? cant wait to learn this. heard it also improves ur lungs.
Some katas are for combat some are for condition and breathing, doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out which is which..Besides evasion and physical blocking in other katas tensho uses circular parrys and slaps a lot faster and less painful then hard blocks, that one is for sure.
i can only do a real good ibugi ben all my muscles are hard. then empty your lungs and keep your movement going out under full pressure (you really have to put some effort in it) it's like you're pushing something really heavy away.. at the moment you are almost completely empty. you force your lungs to push out the air that's still inside your lungs with even more power. (and don't use your throat to make the sound)
bad kata, bad breathing and bad postures, this is simply another kata, is not the correct form of okinawan tensho, so, i think it's utility has been higly decreased
Kyokushinkai has a good form of kumite, but "fighitng" like you said come firts, and so you don't have good basics most of the time, i respect kyokushinkai, as i respect all serious karate style, but trust me, japanese karate, and kyokushinkai are a 0.01% of what true karate really was meant to be
I won't dispute the fact that kyokushin and other styles have deviated from the "1 punch 1 kill" philosophy of the original Okinawan roots but Kyokushin was meant to be a full contact fighting style which Oyama Masutatsu deemed the "ultimate truth", since a styles effectiveness could only truly be tested in jissen kumite, hense the name Kyo ku shin/the ultimate truth.
yes, i agree, butin okinawan karate the "one punch one kill" mentality has nop palce, is a common mood of japanese martial arts, okinawan karate is much more functional.
Think about this qords "contact karate is not good for health", that was my sensei opinion, he is a master in okinawan goju ryu in the jushinkan school, he firmly believes in full contact in karate, but you have to wear protections, karate was meant to harm and even kill in real fights, not for winning tournament.Bye :D
Kyokushinkai karate is for defending yourself or other people under great danger, also it makes you "rethink" some matters and respect some things, also is not for exhibition neither bullying
when you start a martial art just so you can beat the shit out of people you won't last long because you will be dissapointed in the slow learning. most 'bullies' do not have the patience to train hard, it is not a 'karate' or 'aikido' thing. neither of these martial arts are ment to be used to randomly attack or bully people.
I'm not an expert on Japanese Karate but I know often times when people make videos about their style they purposely do forms or techniques wrong in the video so they can tell who REALLY learned it at a dojo and who just bought the tape and claims to know it. Ed Parker did this with the two man fist set, a two person American Kenpo form. Seems like it would make sense for other to do it as well. Just my opinion.

this is sooooo stupid. air outta the dan tian? there IS no air in the dan tian. it's a spiritual area where the elixir is born. there's no air in it. why breath like a flushing toilet for?
as a high grade breathing kata, tensho uses ju breathing, emphasizing the dia phragm, controlled bythe back of the tongue and palate thus the open mouthed breathing is wrong..
stance should be 'broken sanchin' and is nothing like it..
tensho is powerful and controlled, not theatrical or fast, as technique is harmonized with slow powerful ju breathing !
high level techniques are minimised, rather than exaggerated, as for a beginning studeng..
hi i am a black belt in syu yu kai karate which is a mix of kyokoshin and goju ryu. this kata is completely wrong his sanchin is almost a kibidach stance and it is too fast it also needs to be more circular and his toruguch is to exagerated at the end.
Ive got brown belt ( 2nd kyu ) in Kyokoshin, and it's indeed different. The stance is way too wide, techniques too fast. And at the end, he uses mai mawashi shuto uke, but he does it wrong. His hands have their shuto/heito side to the front, except to the side. If he uses that in battle, his bones in his hand will break after doing it 2 or 3 times...
Ive got an explenation for the techniques and the stance; it's another karate style.. i thought it was Wado Ryu, but i'm not completly sure..
you will only learn this kata PROPERLY if you do goju ryu and/or goju kai, this guys stances are wrong and his breathings coming from his throat, not his stomach, my sensei would laugh if he saw this
Do you not understand the difference between Kyokushinkai and Goju??? If your Sensei would laugh it is because he is ignorant. Mas Oyama, the originator of this style, used to kill Bulls with his bare hands, so I think he knew what he was doing. I am sure you are knowledgable in your own school, but you seem to think there is only one way to the top of a mountain.
Tensho is a soft internal kata. Kyokushinkai has turned it into an external hard form. You can't learn the proper movement and application by practicing it as a hard form. His sanchin-dachi is too wide.
voice is done by tensing your stomach and forcing air out of it. That voice is NOT done by getting air out of your lungs.

that is true
the first time i had to do the ibugi was in a sanchin kata, but i had a really hard time doing it right... that was at 4th kyu (green belt)
you use it when you start your (higher) kata (the stance is haiko-dachi)

from japanese version, exaggerated sanchin dachi and big circular movement of 'mawashi' uke for training, not correct kata form..
breath coordinated with waza, not as here for eg no exhale at morote chudan uke..
check okinawa original, eg higaonna 10thdan..
