  • lol i nevr thght u could use coke for cooki n cool

  • OMG opening made me shit my pants

  • The pork absorbs the coke and makes the meat tender, right? Or something along those lines.

  • MAKIN THIS AS WE SPEAK soooo yummy

  • Wow, I've never seen Coke be used for cooking lol.... Expecially with meat. If anything, I woulda thought maybe a dessert type thing?? Lol you're video's are awesome and I like how you taste it at the end. It ALWAYS makes me hungry for what you ate haha. You're really nice and I like your personality ^.^

  • if i dont have sake, what can i use? :3

  • @00sallydoll00 Western cook books with Japanese recipes usually recommend dry sherry as an alternative to sake.

  • @00sallydoll00 if u feeding this to kids use grape juice the clear kind if not feeding this to kids white wine u get in the cooking aisle ...........HOPE I HELPED c:

  • I was drooling when he was eating the beef. gurr it looks so oishi. I want some so bad!

  • loooks sooooo goood :O

  • i've always asked this question to myself: why would you use perfectly good coca-cola on cooking? and now i find the answer XD

  • can i use pepsi ???

  • reminds me of a vietnamese dish my friend gave me I'm japanese o..o

  • Is there any alternative to the Coca Cola? I've read the ingedients on the bottles of Canadian Coke, and it is incredibly bad for you.

  • @TheLizardLover

    Ginger ale would work.

  • @TheLizardLover What doesnt kill you only makes you stronger >.<

  • @doktorrainbow Not all the time. Search up the term bio accumulation, and see what I mean.

  • @TheLizardLover Well, I know about this. I also know that if you look hard enough people will tell you all kinds of things are dangerous. I'm not saying they're wrong, what I am saying is, the world is a dangerous place. You can get killed just by walking your doggie on the street. :p There is this saying "It's better to burn out, than fade away".

  • pork + coca cola + after 24 hours = . . .

  • American Coke is way to sweet as it is! Japans is more sweet? Yikes! Also, its the vinegar that is the agent that tenderizes the meat, not the Coke.

  • @TubaBuddha Actually, sodas are VERY acidic. My dad is a dentist and he has shown me pictures of acid burns on teeth caused by drinking soda! Not only that the Mythbusters tested the acidity of coke and it dissolved a tooth more than vinegar did.

  • @TubaBuddha you have never tenderized a steak with coca cola then... experiment with a very cheap tough cut of meat, marinade in coke. in fact leave it over night... no other ingredients are required. just coke. pour over the meat, cover it with plastic wrap, put in fridge. next day - tell me what you find. you can eat the meat. is good.

  • like a flood of drool...

  • It looks really good in the end i swear, but the idea that it's coca cola... i don't know...

Can you still taste the coca cola ?

  • @kjaartje1 Not really because when you cook pork in coca cola it donates its immense sugar quantity too the pork to keep it tender. I Otherwise the coca cola taste is very very hard to make out .

  • you can save cooking liquid for ramen or something else with soup base. Very tasty! ^.^

  • lol, remove the scum.. :3

  • are u kidding me coca cola ???/????

  • I can use white wine to replace the sake?

  • coca cola actually comes from Mexico i think?

  • Does coke really taste different in different countries? I went to Japan last year and I really can't remember =P

  • I followed your instructions except I boiled lightly for ~3 hours, I tried again with higher vinegar content to bring up the acidity. This was one of the best buta no kakuni I've ever had, it came out so tender that it melts in one's mouth. Thanks for this great preparation technique.

  • first time i see a recipe with coca-cola in it

  • It is interesting that the sweet rate of Coca-Cola changes with countries.

    -

  • Nevermind he answer my question at the end XD

  • Why cook in the coke?

  • Sweetchunks22 maybe go check cooking with dogs recipe?

  • Soda??? Eww... I can't drink soda, I have too much acid in my stomach, according to my doctor.. the end product looked good tho!! Any replacement we can use for soda?

  • this is very fun to watch and easy to make :)

  • It's a funny coincidence that you're using coke because my grandmother used to make this filipino dish where she adds Sprite.

  • LOL what is the point of the foil if your puting a lid on top!! dude your dumb

  • @Shanongao Because the foil has holes in it and the lid is to keep the heat in. Dude you're dumb.

  • Is it possible to use this recipe for a meat other than pork? (For example, chicken breasts?) If so, how should I change the cooking times?

  • @Sarahle3 You need something very fatty to do this right. Chicken breast I think is not fatty enough. I am curious myself to try something else, but I think pork is the ideal choice. Perhaps a low grade (or fatty) cut of beef would work, but I'm not sure.

  • im so afriad of using coke, i hate coke even the glass kinds, can you use something other than coke, runny?

  • Coke is so good with pork wr make our hams at christmas with coke :)

  • I didn't know japanese and american coke are different flavors! XD

  • can i get song name?

  • I added more soysauce like a tablespoon more and it tasted wonderfulllllllllllll I changed my friends' opinion on pork belly! :)

  • Tried this recipe and the coke does indeed tendarise the meat, but I felt like 2.5 mililitres of soy sauce wasn't enough. Good recipe overall. :3

  • this girl cannot speak in general!!

  • this looks interesting, but the coke makes me nervous o_o

  • I'm drooling just by looking at the meat, haha, all the fat looks so bad but it is soooo good ;)

  • he sound like peter chao!

  • @Ioreobaby chao outside mudafucka =P

  • Very fattening cut but looks delicious

  • Is this similar to Rafute?

  • the coke and the sake alone would be just fine for me.

  • 10 ppl dislike must be that pork

  • What was the ingredient you substituted for coke?

  • is that cooking sake?

  • is the coke a joke? D:

  • i tasted a coke-marinated beef in a food convention once, and it really does not have the taste of coke!

  • LOL Coca-Cola ? I always thought , if we heat it , it would Explode ! XD

  • @XCutePupa that only happens when you use nuke-a-cola

  • Coca Cola x)

  • For discussion! Pork belly has way too much fat for braising/boiling. I tried today and was not good. (Maybe i got a really fatty bit of pork belly? ie. not good!)

Back ribs without the bones are what you want, but it is not so popular here in UK, you need to ask your butcher.

  • yummy!!

  • 4:20 it's living. OO But it looks very good. xD

  • Hey runny! I have a recipe suggestion.

You should make the pork in this way, then sort of put a korroke crust on it to make it crunchy. So you get the richy tasting, soft, tender pork, BUT then the cruncy panko outside. DELICIOUS! And serve it with macaroni gratin!

  • this sort-of reminds me of jangjorim.. xD i'm going to have to try this, though.. coke!! LOL Runny's the man. :)

  • japaness coke is the same as romanian coke.. xD, agreed, its too sweet... Pepsi is my fav

  • This dish kinda made me think of a Danish dish called "brunkål" which is cabbage caramalized in a mixture of butter and sugar and then boiled with black pepper, bay leaves, crushed allspice, thyme and some pork (typically back rib or some thick slices of bacon) for a couple of hours. It is then served with boiled potatoes.

I haven't had it for ages, but I remember it as being very delicious - the cabbage is sweet and the meat very tender (:

  • @aMAIZEing Oh yeah, BTW:

Some people don't like cooking "brunkål" in Denmark because of the... unique (and rather heavy)... smell boiled cabbage leaves in your house/apartment xD

  • That looks so good im going to try this

  • OMG YOU HAVE HANDS OF STEEL. isn't it hot when you touch boiling stuff?!

  • That it´s a great way to cook pork, using Coke.

I cook plantain with coke too! Greetings......!

  • lol its funny cuz while walking home from the grocery, i was thinking wut would happen if u boil cola.

  • Which is sweater, American or Japanese coke? You didn't say exactly which is sweater.

  • @dboyz511 You mean Sweeter?lol

  • This is soooo good! I tried your recipe with the coke, it actually sweetened the sauce, so I didn't add more sugar! Thanks!

  • excellent! ..... i'm hungry.....

  • Omg my mum makes a kinda similar dish with pork and eggs (it's too good) but i don't think she puts coke in it lol

But your recipe looks so tasty, i should definitely try your version!!

  • Coke and sake... I wonder how this would taste by itself...

  • everytime i watch your vids, i get hungry !!

  • we use sprite instead. it also tastes good ;)

  • NgoQuynhAnhs is just looking for trouble guys.. don't interact with him/her... it's not worth it.. I've made this at home and I KNOW it's tastes great!! ^_^

  • Can you use something else then coke? >.<

  • 1. coke actually is a great tenderizer

2.those eggs looked like baby potatoes when you pulled them out

3.your english is much better these past 3-4 months,so yay ^_^

  • coke omg 0.0 ? i didnt know that people use fizzy drinks in they food

  • Why can't he say L?

  • coca-cola... wtf?!?

  • thank you ! great video!

。。It's true - we foreigners like that you eat at the end of your videos. But it's not just that you eat - it's HOW you eat - you always really seem to enjoy eating so much! People like to see people enjoy things! You also areかわいくてしょうがない。。。how you talk and how you eat. And last - you seem like a genuine person - very real....not fake.

  • @NgoQuynhAnh

  • @NgoQuynhAnh I may be confused but I'm pretty sure putting food in your mouth is the standard way to taste things. I guess he could huff the vapor coming off of the kakuni to sort of taste it though. I mean he ate several pieces before saying how good it was so that tells me you didn't even watch this video.

  • @NgoQuynhAnh why would he say its tasty wen he cnt taste it?

just cuz u dont like it doesnt me he cnt

  • @NgoQuynhAnh

LOL? he chewed it all the way and tasted it lolz

  • @NgoQuynhAnh

LOL? he chewed it all the way lolz

  • @NgoQuynhAnh We know it's great because he made it =)

  • when you ate you just put it in your mouth you just don't taste it how can it be yummy ..

  • When I saw the picture of this, I got so hungry! Good job, Taro!

  • This made me so hungry >_<

  • awesome videos as usual. I love watching you eat for some reason! its funny and adorable haha and its good to see you enjoying your food. Note. Just something my mom taught/corrected me today. My mom said to always wash the shell of eggs before cooking it with some food that you are going to directly eat. She said there's a lot of bacteria and dirty things on shells of eggs (ppl touching and etc.). I did the same thing you did in the video and I got in trouble haha. My mom's a neat freak :P

  • i like how you linked the tutorial to someone elses channel.. that is so nice of you to do :) i love your videos

  • uhm i have a question.

isn't it better to use baking paper instead of using aluminum foil? i never tried using something like that but to me it seems like it could give off an iron flavor to the dish.

  • what is cola good for???

  • @orhideea95 he explained it...

    it makes the pork tender

  • @orhideea95 well he said the cola makes the pork tender and maybe makes the sauce sweet. And also I'm assuming it takes away the "gamey" porky smell of the pork lol.

  • hey runny, i have a question. since u say japanese coke is more sweet, do we have to add sugar to make it as sweet?

  • for the japanese ingredients you should give them your own english name :D

  • What can I substitute for sake? Will rice wine do?

  • @errantlover5987 sake is a type of rice wine so probably it will do :D

  • hi runny... can i put other cooking wine or rice wine instead of sake? also, what can i substitute with mirin.. actually i don't know what mirin is.. i really want to make this dish for my chichi.. ^_^

  • @michellejoyprotacio I have no idea what Mirin is either but i know my mom keeps it in her pantry haha. I think they sell it in many supermarkets now in teh international/asian section or at korean markets. Also, I just googled this morning about the same problem about substituting sake. One person said you can use cooking white wine (but it won't be as sweet). I'm pretty sure as long as its some sort of rice wine, it won't matter whether its sake or not.

  • @tea4al ohh... i see... i should just incorporate sugar into the cooking rice wine then to make it sweet.. hope that works too.. ahahaha! thanks for you reply.. ^_^

  • By the way since Japanese Coca-cola taste different from American bound coca-cola, how do we balance the flavour so we get a sweet enough taste?

  • @Ido013 I think that really depends on personal taste. I mean I'm not Runny so he might have a better answer than me XDD. You might just add a little bit of sugar into the sauce depending on how sweet you like your sauce. just an option ^^

  • who are those guys on your wall behind

  • IM HUNGRY!

  • hey runny i love the picture that you have in the background with the charactersw from goodfellas omg i love that movie. happy new year runny..:o)

  • @babyphatgoddess0315

You can see the description box for the detail about BGM. And yes, I love the movie goodfellas. It's De niro + Joe peci + Ray Liotta and derected by Martin Scorsese! What more could I want?!

  • @runnyrunny999 Hey runny, if you like Martin Scorsese, you should watch his movie "The Departed" its pretty kick ass xD

  • @xKaoKaox

I've seen that.remake movie. But you should watch the original Hong Kong movie 'INFERNAL AFFAIRS'' which is original movie of ''The Departed''.first. Damn cool!

  • @runnyrunny999 will do. I love Scorsese movies, always an interesting twist at the end. Like in Shutter Island... did he know or not... lol. "Which would be worse - to live as a monster, or to die as a good man?" Ahh!!

  • @runnyrunny999 ive got internal affairs on dvd and the sequal XD brilliant film! also i love the way u cook and i may freak my cooking teacher out by using coke next time i cook pork XD

I like that kinda stuff but googling my ideas gets me jpop as results -_-

  • Cooking in coke.. lol that's like awesome

  • i wish it would be all the same recipe for different countries... soda is good how it is but the companies decide that just cuz its another country it shoud be different ( the originals should be the same )

  • I was with you until you said add Coca Cola lol...

  • I had a dream where I was on the coach, right at the back and some guy was shouting or singing loudly (cant remember) next to me, I look over and it was Runny!

I was soooooooooooo happy LOL! I dont know why, probably 'cos Runny's, I mean Taro's, videos have helped me start cooking, I've always been scared to but now I'm not. THANKS RUNNY!

Oh and sweet vid! Love your accent!

this recipe was interesting and it looks so yummy! ^_^

indeed, american coca cola is way too sweet @_@ i always diluted with water

  • i love the way u say coca cola :D

  • Is there any substitution for the alcohol?

  • looks good :D

  • another funny thing about coca cola... when you let all the fizzing vanish [you know, keep the bottle open for several hours] and keep it in a room temperature you get a fantastic medicine for the stomach ache ^_^v

    LOVED THE RECIPE! <3

  • xD I love testing time...

  • Thank you for the video, good stuff.

  • it looks sooo good Runny runny!!!!!!!!!

  • dude that was awesome...coke and pork..who would have thought

  • Out of all the ingredients, I least expected Coca Cola to be put in something :D

  • this can't be the back ribs, must be the pork belly...

  • What kind of Sake do you use? Is it a special cooking sake or regular drinking sake?

  • First time I'm witnessing a recipe which uses Coca-Cola, I love it!!!

  • Very nice. This happened to be what I was going to ask you to make, so it all works out!

  • Hey , looks good enough to me.

  • I have a question, why did you tear bay leaf a little like that before putting it in? o:

  • @TankeyTop

You'll get more aromatic. You can also use green part of green onion instead.

  • 0:39 did you use a plate to crush the garlic

and how does that otoshi-buta help??

  • Never heard of cooking with coke till today! Learn something new everyday!
