There is only one reason why there is no games for Linux. There isn't enough users. If a game would be released for Windows, Mac and Linux. The Linux version would be the one who would be able to run with the best graphic settings.
Firefox and chrome are taking over the browser market, and Open Office is slowly closing up on Microsoft Office.
@ddbjork there's actually alot of users out there and willing to pay good money. You'd think that getting said money would be enough motivation :) market share isn't very accurate for counting users as with Linux you can use one cd or usb for a limitless amount of computers versus windows (maybe mac?) being limited to being put on just one machine (unless you pirate the oem key to validate that it's a different copy for each one installed on a machine)
@ddbjork That's wrong. Check out the few crossplattform games. Actually, things like Compiz (and others) often get in the way and slow things down more than Aero would (for a few reasons). Linux distr. ist not the BEST OS ppl think of it is, it's a good OS, but still lacks a lot of things in various critical mass-market levels. "All this proves is that open is the way to go!" <- All this proves, is, that it has taken it YEARS to be able to catch up a bit. I like all three but I NEED only one :)
@AleXy86 It may take time to catch up in some aspects like drivers and such but thats because windows gets a head start, linux devs have to design software based on hardware built for windows. thats not really a linux problem. In most other aspects linux has windows beat by a 10 fold. All the software just works so nicely together. Compiz may effect games but it takes 1 minute to make 2 buttons, 1 for compiz and 1 for a lighter GUI. and 1 second to switch between them. Aero2Basic, not so fast
@AleXy86 I would argue that the model surrounding Linux (open source) is the superior and smarter way to go - many many companies are realizing this. I also Disagree on Aero vs. Compiz. When using Nvidia - Compiz is lightning fast, and isn't too heavy on resources. Aero is clunky, generic and Windows in general uses about 2x the resources that my well-optimized/configured Linux desktop does. MS is good for games. Linux more secure, integrated, customizable.
@onClipEvent Linux FTW. I LOVE Linux. I have VirtualBox And I have Android x86, Fedora, Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, Marelus (My own ver of linux), and Damn Small Linux.
im in ubuntu XD but I dual boot with windows because most of my programs only work with windows. but linux is very nice for other things. I love linux I have never had a comptuer that I didnt install some distribution of linux.
I'll settle the hardware support issue in 5 seconds.... any intel processor will work (I have a dual core i5 and it works perfectly), and any HP printer will work. Intel SSD's will also work out-of-box. Same thing goes for wireless card, use intel. Drivers are the biggest problem you face, and to solve that, use a Dell. I have a System76 laptop (i would consider system76 if you are looking for a hassle free linux experience) One last thing, DON'T DUAL BOOT!! There is a higher risk of problems
Hello! I don't know you but in 7:33 minutes you said nothing. Are you really talking about tech or just promoting yourself? Think about it and don't take it personal.

I kick out Windows Xp from my both desktop computers. I don't have any reason to operate with it. Both of my computers are running with Ubuntu or/and Linux Mint. And there really work fine.
Well if you switch it to "Other", it'll set to 128MB, which isn't enough for Ubuntu 9.04 which I use on an old computer... set the RAM to at least 384MB and in case you didn't know (which I think you do no I mean no offense telling you), either use an Ubuntu disc or put the ISO in the virtual drive.

Using the terminal and installing software is pretty easy to learn. For my new high-end game-pc I wil probably use windows 7 just because of the games but I will install Ubuntu on every other computer the minute it gets too slow on windows! XD
Well duh Ubuntu will be faster it barely has anything to load and it most likely got rid of your files. The same thing would happen if you did a clean install or system recovery of Windows XP.
Hi to all, Im wanting to look into Ubuntu linux but at 64 im not a techie. Any help?I have a dell lptp w xp and an acer Lptp w vista and id like to get the vista outa there
I put Ubuntu into a PC that had XP on it and damn was it worth it.
I always hesitated because of the fear of having to go into terminal and get all technical and I didn't want to waste so much time to just use the thing.
When I put Ubuntu in with a Canon Printer, Logitech Cam, both being about 3+ years old or so, it recognized it and worked perfectly
So, Unless your comp is super old, Ubuntu should just work for you, and it kicks Windows's ass lol
64mb is true but only if the puppy program u r running is puppy series 1. Puppy is loaded completely into ram and so the newer puppy distos require more ram
I've recently got ubuntu and am loving it. As he says in the vid, the only drawback is gaming but I think for most home users ubuntu is a great choice, there are some brilliant free programms. The interface is similair to windows + at the moment at least there are verry few viruses written to attack linux and you dont have to worry about spyware either at the moment.
I used to think ubuntu was a nerdy musing, but after using it, I love the philosiphy and it meets all my computing needs. 10/10
basically , you are an ignorant who can't even type Ubuntu correctly. Ubuntu rocks, Windows and its viruses, low speed, fuckin' registry, prices and crashes suck . End of argument.
agreed, i used Window Vista for a few months it was slow as shit, and i have an expensive rig, i saw ubuntu, downloaded it, its so fucking awesome, even though i hated the basic orange theme its so easy to change the theme i had no worrys. Its funny how a free os kicks a massive paid os lol
thats cuz you and many other people are used to OSX and Windows its like the saying : you cant teach an old dog new tricks :) you can only teach a new dog old and new tricks :)
yeah, give too much credibility to Linux when it's just the Kernel, is GNU who uses Linux and many distributions ...not the other way,
What would be Linux without the GNU project? ....just an Open Source Kernel without free software support.... who gives a fuck? the team developers, and contributors who don't get credit from their effort,,,, except Linux.
lol why microsoft ? if they wanted credit and get paid they could start up their own company and sell ubuntu laptops and desktop BOOM more profit then macs and pcs! ubuntu would rule the world with an iron first.
Linux will never be as popular as either mac or pc, simply because its not as user friendly, and not being user friendly is the reason why the people who like it, like it so much. But what i was talking about was a previous post, where i mis understood a guy. I was talking about how linux is open source, so if they wanted credit they could go and work for a retail company. (another reason people like linux, because its free)
Linux is already more popular then Macs :). and so what if it takes a little more work to do something? geez your so lazy you cant type in a few commands so you can run a windows program? geez wtf. and yes people also like it cuz its free and becuase its free and its better then macs and pc ;)
linux in general meaning ubuntu, redhat, debian and all the other linux type os's which makes up the linux community are more popular then macs :). and redhat sucks :) oh and yes im calling u lazy :)
Humm lets see, my workplace uses windows PCs my old workplace used macs my college used a mix of both. The only place I found a linux install was on a computer used as a web server for tutorial work.
not really just cuz YOU havent seen many linux users dont mean their aint any :) just like macs macs are only 4.11% of the market share Pcs are 91.42% so where is the 4.47%? thats linux :) around .36% more pcs have linux then mac :)
exactly and each day that passes windows users keep switching win is already up to 87% of the market when last year they where at 92% macs are at 4% while linux users are at 9% in 5 years windows will be at i'd say. 47% while linux is at 30-35% and macs ar 15-20% or so.
GNOME, KDE, XFCE, CDE. All DE's that are used all the time. Almost every popular Linux Distro has a DE version and a Server edition. Almost every Linux machine THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN has used a DE and some crazy ass people-with-no-life use Slackware. It's mostly because you haven't seen many machines at all, not because you've seen a proper sample base. YOU FAIL.
I've tried Ubuntu, I installed the latest version a week ago, it took about an hour to get my nvidia card working after a dive into the shell. That was not my idea of a friendly user experience. But after downloading the many dozens of updates it somehow broke the newly installed graphics drivers, and this time no amount of reinstalling worked. I'm less than impressed, I don't think Ubuntu or Linux is anywhere near ready for the desktop and it's going to be many years if at all when it is.
dude and you make such a statement just 'cause you couldn't install you video card drivers?? Dude, there is something called the Synaptic Package Manager. After the updates (they don't even compare with the annoying Windows updates) add to source your packages from third party servers (in the SPM go to Settings, Repositories, 3rd party and check Ubuntu partners) Ubuntu CAN NOT provide proprietary drivers. I have the Nvidia X Server application installed w/o problems.
besides if you have a problem go to the Ubuntu forums and you will find a lot of helpful information.....try to contact Microsoft for customer help to ask why your windows failed.
Calling me a troll?! Thats not very 'power of community' I would have expected from Linux users. I'm not trolling or baiting. Don't be such a fanboy, at least Apple or Microsoft support doesn't throw random insults if I have a problem with the hardware or OS.
linux is complecated and is something that you have to learn to use. just as you would have to lear to use vista if you never seen windows before. so, all those asshole who say tha linux sucks and is shit need 1 lear to use it, 2 explore all the features, 3 check stability, 4 ask a friend to try to hack into your system when its on linux, 5 turn your ass to windows and face linux becouse now you are having a better pc experiense and are a happier person because you found a better way of using pc
Bullshit. I've used multiple Linux distros over the years, (K)ubuntu included. I've done my research, I know TONS of things about software, but Linux still sucks for a desktop. Why? BECAUSE IT JUST DOESN'T HAVE ANY APPLICATIONS. Maybe it's stable, safe and shit, but I don't care. If it doesn't have the applications I need, I'm outta there. And don't tell me I can run stuff in Wine. It's just never gonna perform or feel the same. Linux died for my desktop needs with Windows 7.
Have you even tried it ? i installed it yesterday with dual boot vista, i dident know a shit about it, and im using it right now, its really good and bootup takes around 2,3 minutes with vista for me (quad pc) and it took me 15 secund with ubuntu, fucking noob dont talk about stuff you dont know
Im so jeaLOUS of your System........Every time i try an OS like Gnome or Fedora11 or Mint7 or The New Solaris it never works for me...Theres always something like a bug or it Crashes or its non responsive or it freezes or it refuses to install any programs......Windows may be lame but 4 me its always gonna be more stable at the end of the day<<<<
this is the first time im using ubuntu and im a gamer and its so very hard to download wine is there are a linux distro bether for downloading stuff and i hate ubuntu because i deleted windows xp home 2!!!!
Ubuntu Linux worked grate for me i use dule boot everything working fine

End of argument.
williamfgc 2 years ago 2
agreed, i used Window Vista for a few months it was slow as shit, and i have an expensive rig, i saw ubuntu, downloaded it, its so fucking awesome, even though i hated the basic orange theme its so easy to change the theme i had no worrys. Its funny how a free os kicks a massive paid os lol

I and many other people I know would rather stick to either windows or osx, it's just a better end user experience.
SlightyDisturbedNBK 2 years ago
thats cuz you and many other people are used to OSX and Windows its like the saying : you cant teach an old dog new tricks :) you can only teach a new dog old and new tricks :)

To Lockergnome: Please rename this video
It's "GNU/Linux Ubuntu"
Not just "Ubuntu Linux"
KvinAlc18 2 years ago
whats the difference? ...gnome who gives a fuck
chughes44 2 years ago
yeah, give too much credibility to Linux when it's just the Kernel, is GNU who uses Linux and many distributions ...not the other way,
What would be Linux without the GNU project? ....just an Open Source Kernel without free software support.... who gives a fuck? the team developers, and contributors who don't get credit from their effort,,,, except Linux.
KvinAlc18 2 years ago
its all open source...if they wanted credit they could work for Microsoft and get paid of their ideas?
chughes44 2 years ago
What I meant is that the users give too much credit to Linux.
KvinAlc18 2 years ago
ooh, i c well that could be. I guess im an idiot for not understanding what u meant. Your right without GNU Linux would be a lot less convenient.
chughes44 2 years ago
@chughes44
lol why microsoft ? if they wanted credit and get paid they could start up their own company and sell ubuntu laptops and desktop BOOM more profit then macs and pcs! ubuntu would rule the world with an iron first.
Zerorebels 2 years ago
Linux will never be as popular as either mac or pc, simply because its not as user friendly, and not being user friendly is the reason why the people who like it, like it so much. But what i was talking about was a previous post, where i mis understood a guy. I was talking about how linux is open source, so if they wanted credit they could go and work for a retail company. (another reason people like linux, because its free)
chughes44 2 years ago
Linux is already more popular then Macs :). and so what if it takes a little more work to do something? geez your so lazy you cant type in a few commands so you can run a windows program? geez wtf. and yes people also like it cuz its free and becuase its free and its better then macs and pc ;)
Zerorebels 2 years ago
linux is not more popular than mac. and are u referring to me as lazy? because my main os is red hat. Ubuntu is MUCH more user friendly than red hat
chughes44 2 years ago
linux in general meaning ubuntu, redhat, debian and all the other linux type os's which makes up the linux community are more popular then macs :). and redhat sucks :) oh and yes im calling u lazy :)
Zerorebels 2 years ago
lol what do u run ubuntu?
and what about red hat sucks may i ask?
and what about me is lazy? i take the time to listen to you, who obviously doesn't know anything. I even take the time to reply to your comments....
chughes44 2 years ago
actually i run many os's :) including novell
everything about red hat sucks :)
everything about you is lazy :)
you take the time to listen to me cuz u have no life
i never implyed i know everything
you take the time to reply to me cuz u have no life

Humm lets see, my workplace uses windows PCs my old workplace used macs my college used a mix of both. The only place I found a linux install was on a computer used as a web server for tutorial work.
SlightyDisturbedNBK 2 years ago 2
i see no point what so ever in what you said o.O
Zerorebels 2 years ago
My point is, linux is very seldom used in the desktop environment.
SlightyDisturbedNBK 2 years ago
not really just cuz YOU havent seen many linux users dont mean their aint any :) just like macs macs are only 4.11% of the market share Pcs are 91.42% so where is the 4.47%? thats linux :) around .36% more pcs have linux then mac :)
Zerorebels 2 years ago
why are there 91% of win users ??? coz everyones retarded i guess.
orapinglobal 2 years ago
exactly and each day that passes windows users keep switching win is already up to 87% of the market when last year they where at 92% macs are at 4% while linux users are at 9% in 5 years windows will be at i'd say.

YOU FAIL.

it's growing.....give it a few years....Ubuntu makes it easy to use.

SlightyDisturbedNBK 2 years ago 3
dude and you make such a statement just 'cause you couldn't install you video card drivers?? Dude, there is something called the Synaptic Package Manager. After the updates (they don't even compare with the annoying Windows updates) add to source your packages from third party servers (in the SPM go to Settings, Repositories, 3rd party and check Ubuntu partners) Ubuntu CAN NOT provide proprietary drivers. I have the Nvidia X Server application installed w/o problems.
williamfgc 2 years ago
besides if you have a problem go to the Ubuntu forums and you will find a lot of helpful information.....try to contact Microsoft for customer help to ask why your windows failed.
williamfgc 2 years ago
it took 4 weeks for someone to answer my post on those forums.

troll alert! software update does not mess up your drivers if you have the latest ones
DavidPlim 2 years ago
Calling me a troll?! Thats not very 'power of community' I would have expected from Linux users. I'm not trolling or baiting. Don't be such a fanboy, at least Apple or Microsoft support doesn't throw random insults if I have a problem with the hardware or OS.
SlightyDisturbedNBK 2 years ago
Because your workplace doesn't know Linux exist because there not advertising it.

If you're a gamer. Forget about using Linux. Running games in WineHQ sucks donkey dong. Although, it works, don't waste your time.
eqspec76 2 years ago
linux is complecated and is something that you have to learn to use. just as you would have to lear to use vista if you never seen windows before. so, all those asshole who say tha linux sucks and is shit need 1 lear to use it, 2 explore all the features, 3 check stability, 4 ask a friend to try to hack into your system when its on linux, 5 turn your ass to windows and face linux becouse now you are having a better pc experiense and are a happier person because you found a better way of using pc
Vlad1293 2 years ago
