I'm sitting here watching "Running On Empty" that I just bought this morning. I remember having his pictures on my wall growing up. I sure do miss watching him & often wonder what his life would be like today. I found a great website that's kept up by one of his siters. He was such a brillant actor. I cant believe it's comming up on the 16th year of his death. God bless you River!!!

Such a talent gone way too soon. I remember the day I heard when River died. I was sitting in my car just after having a physical exam and my heart stopped. He was absolutely brilliant in My Private Idaho and in Sneakers I compared him to a young Robert Redford. Running on Empty is my favorite movie of his - you could see he had so much talent and would have been a major player in Hollywood.

River was right before my time... I was only 6 when he died, so I had no idea who he was at the time. Just recently I stumbled across some things about him and have developed a serious respect for the guy. It's a rare thing to find someone who is drop-dead gorgeous and doesn't use it against people. He gave a shit about things other than his hair, you know? From all accounts he was a great actor, had a heart of gold, and stuck to his beliefs... what went wrong?

I have been a huge TP fan since I was just a teenager. I own every Petty album I'm aware of. This was always may favorite live cover that he did. Such a beautiful song and a fitting tribute.
