The Lady in this documentary says, she has been working to help animal wealthiness. It does not make sense that she is such a sentimental person, but yet, she eats meat. How can you be a animal lover and a meat eater at the same time. ?????
number of cows slaughtered every 24 hours in the US: 90,000. number of chickens slaughtered every MINUTE in the US: 14,000. food animals (not counting fish and other aquatic creatures) slaughtered per year in the US: 10 billion. small independent farmers are relentlessly driven out of business by the economies of scale which large meat production systems can command. it is not only animals which are harmed by factory farms. they put human health at risk as well.
This documentary is such bullshitting on the hispanic guys interview...he doesnt say half the stuff that the subtitles says he says. BULLSHIT...I dont eat pork but this is dumb. Make something that is telling the truth.
... and that the environment is certainly being impacted in a negative way and the people are going to suffer tremendously over the long term as well.
The smell of money is outweighing the horrible smell of the pig waste and the people who are allowing this to happen should be ashamed of themselves.
These videos should be mandatory for everyone to see. It is really sickening to see these animals treated this way and all for the sake of mass-producing. I'm sorry but IMO it is so wrong.
I am so incensed by what I just saw on these videos. It is really difficult to believe that this is allowed to take place... be it here in the U.S., in Poland, or anywhere. This kind of "factory farming" should be banned altogether and there should be huge fines and jail for anyone who runs a company like this.
I cannot believe this gentleman who runs Smithfield feels that what his company is doing is right. He must know deep within himself that it is a horrible, atrocious act....
Chinese has a saying businessman is a legitimate con man. Merchant is the only people who sell without boasting. seldom see merchant nowadays, only legitimate con man. Now University is opting it to their education system for people to become successfully rich in life. corrupt education of the modern days
On top of this, nations are instituting animal id schemes that are designed to drive out independent animal owners. Tyson, ConAgra, Cargill, Monsanto, etc. are moving to take control of our food industry from seed to retail & setting it up where we will not be able to get food except via their products - not even have your own garden. Take a hard look at the "food safety" bill, S510 - it's about food CONTROL, not safety. Get informed & get INVOLVED in stopping this. Call your senators now!
Thanks for making an excellent documentary that educates all who watch it. Just like the global nationals the movement against factory farms starts with a single purchase and spreads to a global movement that supports local farmers, no matter what country you reside . Vote with your currency against factory farms!
I worry so much not because I eat but my roommate is Chinese and her and her family eat a lot of pork. :( I truly worry about the health of her and her family.
Great documentary but failed to mention Monsanto's GE soy which is the main reason pig feces is so toxic, along with antibiotics drugs and pesticides. Eat no pork that is not free-range, organic.

Smithfield didn't move "from" the U.S. "to" eastern europe. It expanded there. And for anyone who thinks the mom-and-pop farms are more 'animal friendly', think again. Ever seen video of how slaughter is done on small farms? It's BRUTAL. While you may find Smithfield's slaughter operation distasteful because of its scale, it is FAR quicker and more humane than what the average farmer can achieve...ever watch a half-dead pig run around bleeding because some farmer couldn't keep a grip? Awful!
"ever watch a half-dead pig run around bleeding because some farmer couldn't keep a grip?"
you think this doesn't happen in modern slaughterhouses, where poorly-trained unskilled laborers have to slaughter 100s of pigs in an hour, where workers are desperate to keep up, where stunning often fails (especially since they keep the charge low, in order to prevent ruining the appearance of the meat for small pigs- this prevents complete stunning of large pigs), where pigs are boiled while conscious?
@bitterbonker I didn't say this doesn't happen in modern factories. I was trying to dispel the romantic myth of "the family farm" where all animals live in harmony with man and nature. In general, the Smithfield operation is FAR more humane than the family farm. By the way, the intro abuse footage shown in this series was not even filmed on Smithfield property! Just part of an orchestrated campaign of deception that characterizes this series.
I need to impress upon you that the practices of intensive confinement, genetic & dietary manipulation to maximize growth, & ruthless slaughterhouse speeds are typical industry practices. Raising huge amounts of animals for food is logistically very difficult, and the costs are borne out by the animals, as well as the environment, workers & consumers. *Smithfield* is the one orchestrating a campaign of deception--it's a lot more "cost-effective" for them to buy PR denying this, than to fix it...

What shameless tripe! There's a very good reason this took so long to air on British TV....MANY parts of it were proven by third parties to be patently false. Local police investigation determined that Tracy's crew put the dead pigs in the lagoon THEMSELVES and that the physical layout of the plant makes it impossible that the pigs could have gotten in the lagoons. Calls into question the rest of the whole series. Where are objective violations of the law? It's a hit piece...period.
It's easy for us to give up & snub the ignorant citizens who ignore facts like these, especially the people who question & fight us on every positive food choice we make & say things like," Who gives a sh!t, it's just a pig." But, focusing on the negative won't get us anywhere. We need to keep spreading this message & our belief, while staying positive despite all the negativity we face. We can make our lives & the lives of animals more humane: demand the best, supply will follow.
Most people don't give a damn unfortunately and wallow in ignorance and selfishness.Contrast the amount of people who will watch this with those watching football or x factor to give just two examples.Sorry if this sounds cynical or misanthropic but I've been around and often get this way.
Was so disgusted I sent Smithfield an e mail. On there (very deceptively attractive) website, there is a facility to e mail the management. BOMBARD THEM! plus make sure you only buy British pork and bacon.

Stop eating multinational corporation products---
Smithfield is the one in this documentary.
Smithfield's tentacles are in the U.S., U.K. and Ireland and more.
