  • finnish spelling bees must be KILLER O______o;

  • @PenDev0us English is the only language that has spelling bees I think :P

  • @PenDev0us Haha fail.

  • @PenDev0us Actually, Finnish has a phonemic orthography, therefore spelling poses no obstacle at all and Finnish spelling bees don't exist :]

  • @MovieStudio620 :) huzzah for phonemic orthography then :)

  • que bonita es la cancion

  • some of the lyrics were finnish :D (and I KNOW IT, im finnish u__u)

  • رائع

  • omg what a lyrics but a good song

  • @slo48 The English translation/description somehow loses the tone of the song. It is actually quite humorous and light hearted. Direct translations of the roundabout idioms of Finnish, where the guy is defending his girl and their "right to party" makes it sound much too harsh.

  • omg what a lyrics

  • aaah back to my favorite song in awhile.... why are the lyrics differant... FUCK I WAS LITINING TO THE BASSHUNTER THAT WHOLE TIME?!?!? damn it

  • Does it really matter if Hatsune or Bass Hunter did a remix of this? Who gives a fuck. I don't really care for this song I think Hatsune and Basshunter did much better. I guess people liked their version better than this one, Like I did. So you guys need to shut the fuck up and listen to the music if you like it or fucking not. And if you decide to comment back and say something to me, I won't give a shit. This song is orginal but I like Hatsune's better. *Point crossed over, and anger gone*. :D

  • @clowdana As a Finn I must disagree - this is actually not that quick at all. If you want to hear fast sung Finnish 'trad' piece put this in the YouTube search field:

    watch?v=l_Jt5Uhw_6Y

    That's fast - eh? ;)

  • Hö-hö... Rumpa XD

  • @STanTiT ---

    vafan xD

  • From the neighbours could he heard the beat of the polkka The soles of my feet it tickled oh Eva's mother she guarded her daughter But oh yes Eva her evaded so for we're not bothered by being grounded when we're dancing from railing to rail salivili............. Eva's mouth was smiling widely when the people wished her luck Heads were sweaty on everyone and the fiddle it squealed and played out loud No this lad ain't bothered by the sweating when hes flying from rail to rail etc

  • I think people should give more credit to Loituma for this their amazing song, and not to Hatsune Miku, or Holly Dolly or Basshunter, whom have just made some remix versions from this -,-

  • @7luffy i totally agree! and im making a cover of the songXD but atleast ima credit them. notice, the song has been changed to the leek spin song and now when people hear the most popular lines in the song, they picture miku or that orahime video which there are like 30 versions of now.

  • @7luffy

Actually it's not Loituma's song, this is a cover..

  • @Torgeytits Yes indeed this is a trad song - so no "original" exists. These specific lyrics for this very old tune were written in 1930's by Eino Kettunen. In that way the Loituma version is a kind of "cover" itself. However their arrangement has many unique elements - first of all it is without instruments and then it has this added scat part in the middle.

The "Miku" and "Orihime" mixes are totally based just on the scat part by Loituma so credit to Loituma would IMO be more than appropriate.

  • @Torgeytits no.. this is the original Loituma`s own song...or actually acapella version of it. Other artists ( like Miku, basshunter and holly dolly, ) have just made some remix versions of it.

  • @7luffy who*

  • @Nalenthios ...isn´t it whom..since it`s plural. when I used "whom", I was referring to all 3 of them...Miku, basshunter and Holly dolly,,,so shouldn´t it be plural " whom", instead of " who" ?

  • @7luffy It has nothing to do with plural. If the person you're referring to is the subject of the sentence (the one who acts) it's who. as in

    Who was he?

    Who did it?

    Who has made it?

And if it's not, it's whom as in

Whom did you do it to? (it is you, that did something - "whom" didn't do anything)

To whom did he send it? (it is "he" that does something, "whom" doesn't)

  • @Nalenthios oh...so that´s the way it was....ok,sorry. it seems I was wrong. Even though my english number in school is 9...this " whom " thing was one of the couple things, that I didn´t get so quickly... so somehow this " whom being used when I`m referring to something that´s plural " -thing got stuck to my head.

  • @7luffy I totally agree although it was actually Eino Kettune who wrote this in 1930

  • o.o what with the leek??

  • I'm sure that at 1:44 she says: yabadabadabaduu (Fred Flintstones)

  • I got lost after the first word Lol.

  • is that finnish?

  • @Kim3833 Yup - Savonian dialect. Note however that the part of the tall lady is all just gibberish.

  • @EneriGiilaan Okay thanks

  • Oh boy, try singing it! It's tiring lol

  • seriously, what is this song about?

  • @RitaPortugirl the lyrics roughly mean "OBEY" over and over i think

  • @RitaPortugirl There is another version with translation/plot-description included. Put this in your YouTube search box:

    watch?v=4om1rQKPijI

Note that the refrain "salivili ... tipput hilijalleen" is just gibberish while the translation manages to give another impression. Also the part of the tall lady is scatting i.e., all gibberish.

  • 1:25 sync with gif of spinning leek

  • why did i read 'sillon' as 'sillicon'? o.o

  • The reason I can sing this is that i'm from finland.

  • I can sing this! Well not perfectly, some mistakes but it's kinda cool and I don't even know what I'm singing...

  • Zungenbrecher hoch 5 !

  • My translation, part 1

    Naapurista kuulu se polkan tahti

The rhythm of polka was heard from the neighbor

    Jalakani pohjit kutkutti

The bottoms of my feet were itching

    Ievan äiti se tyttöösä vahti

Ieva's mother was guarding her daughter

  • Part 2

    Vaan kyllähän Ieva sen jutkutti

    But Ieva did trick her

Sillä ei meitä silloin kiellot haittaa

For we aren't bothered by denials

    Kun myö tanssimme laidasta laitaan

When we dance from wall to wall

  • Part 3

    Ievan suu oli vehnäsellä

    Ieva smiled broadly

(litterally: "her mouth was on wheat(stuff)". It's an expression which has to do with sweet and tasty wheat bread (instead of sour rye bread).

    ko ihmiset onnea toivotti

    when people wished her luck

  • Part 4

    Pae oli märkänä jokaisella

    Evryone had their head wet(sweaty)

Ja viulu se vinku ja voivotti

And the fiddle squeaked and moaned

    Ei tätä poikoo märkyys haittaa

This lad isn't bothered being wet

  • Part 5

    Sillon ko laskoo laiasta laitaan

When (he) moves(speedily) from wall to wall

    Ievan äiti se kammarissa

    Ieva's mother in the backroom/bedroom

    Virsiä veisata huijuutti

    sung psalms briskly(with intensive fashion)

  • Part 6

    Kun tämä poika naapurissa

When this lad in the neighbor

    Ämmän tyttöä nuijjuutti

Was playing with the old hag's daugher

    Eikä tätä poikoo ämmät haittaa

And this lad isn't bothered by old hags

  • Part 7

    Sillon ko laskoo laidasta laitaan

When (he) moves(speedily) from wall to wall

    Siellä oli lystiä soiton jälkeen

There was fun after the music stopped

    Sain minä kerran syytkyttee

I got once to kiss(?) her

  • Part 8

Kotiin ko mantii nii ämmä se riitelj

When we got home the old hag was picking a fight

    Ja Ieva jo alko nyyhkytteleek

    And Ieva already started sobbing

Minä sanoin Ievalle mitäpä se haittaa

I said to Ieva that it doesn't really matter (litterally: what does it matter)

  • Part 13

    Sillon ko laskoo laiasta laitaan

When (he) moves(speedily) from wall to wall

Phew! And that's it! It's very heavy dialect - and I'm not a speaker of this particular dialect. Couple of words are also more describing sounds or movement than actual real words. Then, in the between of the story there's a lot of this lal-lal-lal-type non-words, humming with the music.

  • Comment removed

  • Grow up wussies! I can sing this with my high pitched voice as well as they can!

  • "Ievan äiti se kammarissa virsiä veisata huijuutti"

= "Ieva's mother hummed hymns in the bedroom"

    .... someone else could continue...

  • "Ievan suu oli vehnäsellä" = "Ieva enjoy and laugh"

"ko immeiset onnee toivotti" = "other people wished good luck"

"Pea oli märkänä jokaisella" = "all had a hard sweat" ( wet head)

"ja viulu se vinku ja voevotti" = "Fiddle squeaked and tut-tut"

"Ei tätä poikoo märkyys haittaa, sillonko laskoo laiasta laitaan"

= "This boy" does not disadvantage the (maybe girl) wet, when you let go wall to wall

    Again.. Salivili...

  • "vaan kyllähän Ieva sen jutkutti" = "Ieva tricked his mother"

"ei meitä silloin kiellot haittaa, kun myö tanssimme laiasta laitaan".

The story of a "singer" will tell you what she said...

= "dancing does not (hurt) anybody, when we dance in the wall to wall of (in a house).

Parents blocked boys, denied everything, "pussy watch" (kiellot = generic name)

"Salivili hipput tupput täppyt" = I´dont know, maybe means nothing.

"äppyt tipput hilijalleen" = maybe... "Moms fell asleep slowly"

  • That means...

"Neighbor heard polka-stroke" (so says the old folks, old finnish dialect, when there is a hard party)

    "Nuapurista kuulu se polokan tahti"

... continue "in the feet itch" (neighbor would like come and dance too, she tells this song)

    "jalakani pohjii kutkutti"

    -----

    "Ievan äiti se tyttöösä vahti"

Ieva means girl, old dialect too and this song, Eeva finnish language and english Eva.

    "Ieva´s mother, daughters watch it"
