Raw superb talent at only twenty-two. I love how timidly she walks onto Letterman's stage. Initially you can see she's really very nervous. Then her confidence rises. She embraces the song and shows us what was to come. I've been mourning the loss of Whitney Houston for years, not just a week.
,-( Very sad she has left us. Regardless of her flaws, she was truly a great, gifted singer. And w/o knowing her, it seems to me she had great, positive energy. she will be missed.
Saw this live back in 85 and never forgot it. Talk about first impressions!!! Thank you so much for posting this as this is the Whitney I will choose to remember. Young, sassy, poised, beautiful and THE VOICE!! Her effortless vocal transitions from growling to full out mid range to crystal clear hi end falsettos brought me to my knees then and still do to this day. Such a shame....very saddened by her death.
It's really sad that she's gone. She's gone too soon. She should have seen her daughter, in college, get married...but it is really hard to accept she is gone. There were singers who really meant what she sang. Whitney meant every one of her lyrics. I will always love you and I will always believe in you. Rest In Peace, Whitney.
I worked in 30 Rock the day this show was taped. I saw it live on a studio feed in my office and had no idea who Whitney Houston was...I was so knocked out! Her performance is incredible. What an outstanding talent, and a very sad loss.
@Farinadog13 thanks for your testimony dude... I loved it and how lucky you were, man... I'm just 19 and I'm devastated with this horrible notice... simply destroyed, she was my life and inspiration ... never had the chance to see her live.
I've never had so many chills from one song in my life....whitney's voice was the best there was and ever will be....we may never hear another voice like that again....my God bless us one more time....
That man at the end wouldn't let go of her hand!!! xD I bet she was like..." hehee... o.. okay now.. hehe... you can let go" XD

she comes out on stage and almost misses her beat into entry into the song, but she's good enough to make up for that almost mistake.

To me, she's the most beautiful black woman I've ever seen and has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. RIP Whitney. You'll be greatly missed.

Unfortunately, Bobby Brown had to come into her life and become a bad influence on her.
