  • ROLMFAO@ the end!!!!!

  • My Sifu did mention his name some 40 years ago. Hawkins is a legend!

  • did he learn this from a book?

  • This is one of the best Wing Chun teachers in the world today

  • I dont know if this guy gets other poeple to make him look better even Marc Macyoung recommends him, and Macyoung doesnt recommend even Dan Inosanto according to him its cause he wonders if Inosanto teaches his students the legality of the applications of there moves. Of course Inosanto DOES know the legality of his moves because Kali has codes and such.

  • @Mider999 LEGALITIES? COME ON! WHAT A LOAD OF B.S.

  • hawkins grew up training with bruce lee. i don't think he ever would say that bruce didn't learn the complete system and that he didn't respect lee and his ability.

  • @dmd54 It is a fact that Bruce Lee did not learn the whole system. Hawkins Cheung said that he did respect Bruce's abilities as a martial artist. But as a Wing Chun man, he was lacking. Bruce's legs and footwork were not that good for a Wing Chun guy. Of course, his footwork later on became very good, but that was because he learned what worked for him. That's why Hawkins said he wasn't that good in Wing Chun, but was a very good overall martial artist.

  • @hulkout666 There were VERY few men who did give Lee any trouble i think that maybe Hawkins Cheun was one of them and Judo Gene Lebbell

  • In my humble opinion, guys like Hawkins, William Cheung, & Leung Ting try real hard to look as impressive as Bruce did in demos but don't come close. Its so obvious Hawkins' partners here are there to make there sifu look good, not really attacking or giving him any sincere competition. These guys like to say Bruce never learned the complete Wing Chun style: so what, he still looked so much more effective than they do!

  • @Brucemee Yeah and when they do beat up there masters then there called direspectful evil people like when Tassos beat up a student of Yip Man not really beat up but he was faster and stronger.

  • @Brucemee Um wasnt Bruce alot younger then these men?

  • @Brucemee You could always go train with someone under Samual Kwok he's not old at all. Or someone who trained with Gary Lam

  • Hawkins Cheung trained under Yip Man

  • That was a Judo move. Nice harai goshi.

  • Thats ignorant..its shuai chiao- chinese wrestling. judos and jujutsu are 1000 years to late to claim this technique =P google it

  • Does Hawkins get on well with Gary Lam?

  • there buddies, he drops by class once an a while

  • Thanks, just seen a picture with Gary and Hawkins on it.

  • @Velasca

Yes, the two men are friends.

  • Yes, the two men are friends. @Velasca

  • Beware the Hawkins Belt Throw! His Water Tai Chi ain't too shabby either...

See you in the park Hawkins.

  • Which park, PlayHanghang?

  • Would you expect any less from a student of Yip Man?

  • @Mider999 Yeah. Ip did not teach his full WC system to any one person.

  • @komobro07

Yeah he did. Wong Shun Leung, Chu Shong Tin, Ip Ching, Ip Chun...lots of people learned the whole system. To suggest otherwise is to suggest that ALL of these people are lying. Given a large group of people, there might be a couple charlatans who only learned a little bit & then make up a story about how they mastered WC (like William Cheung), but it's unbelievable that ALL these people are lying.

  • @Nephronial Your saying William Cheung is a liar?

  • @Mider999

Let me ask you something before I answer.

Do you know what William Cheung's deal is? How much about his claims have you heard? Have you heard exactly what he claims?

  • @Nephronial All Ive heard is that he was taught by Yip Man and that he is called a grandmaster in Wing Chun. I know a few other guys who were taught by Yip Man but of all of them i only know of Hawkins Cheung who is alive if what you say is true. Also Gary Lam did not learn under Yip Man but his teacher did.

  • @Mider999

William Cheung (not Hawkins) took ~3 years of lessons as a teenager at Ip Man's school in the mid 50's. Then he moved to Australia. He wanted to teach & wanted people to regard him as a "Great Master". Since he was never taught the advanced forms, he simply made them up! Then, to explain why his advanced forms look nothing like Ip Man's, he made up a story about how Ip Man secretly taught him & him alone the real "Traditional" Wing Chun. He's a lying pile of dog puke, that one.

  • @Nephronial Really is that why Dan Inosanto respects him? Cause he's a lieing pile of dog puke? Dan Inosanto who knows about like 7 diffrent arts or more from Jeet Kune do to Filipino Martial arts to Silat, American Kenpo, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiujitsu, Shooto, Savate, Judo, Japanese Jujitsu, Okinawa Te?

  • @Mider999

I don't know much about Inosanto, so I can't speculate about why he would choose to associate with such a lousy guy but I do know Insosanto wasn't a student of Ip Man.

So let's talk about Ip's students for a sec...

ALL of them agree that Cheung's story about "Traditional Wing Chun" is a lie. It's a total fabrication. This is documented in more than one source, but most famously in a public statement by 13 of Ip's former students.

Every group has one bad apple & Cheung is WC's.

  • @Nephronial

Just to be clear, I'm talking about WILLIAM Cheung here, not Hawkins. Hawkins is one of the good guys. (they're not related, either)

In fact, side note: William Cheung likes to bring up this quote by Bruce Lee where Lee says something like "Cheung is the ultimate fighter!". Lee was probably talking about Hawkins...

  • @Nephronial Inosanto is not a lousy Guy i think he's well respected by almost everyone in the martial arts world. You can look him up here under Inosanto Panantukan, Inosanto wing chun, Inosanto Kickboxing, Inosanto Jeet Kune Do

  • @Nephronial remember that william cheung and wong shong leung instructed bruce lee and he looked up to them for their good fighting skills

  • @EbonCrusaderOM82

Wong definitely did. There's lots of documented and corroborative evidence for that.

Not so for W. Cheung. Him & Lee were classmates, & W.Cheung was Lee's senior by a little bit, but that doesn't mean Cheung gets credit for "training" Lee - that credit goes to Wong & Ip Man, not W. Cheung.

I doubt Lee would have anything but scorn for Cheung's current behavior.

None of Ip's former students (including) Hawkins back up W.Cheung on any of his silly "I'm Special!" claims.

  • @EbonCrusaderOM82 there where many people out of wing chun that bruce respected for fighting ability, joe lewis, chuck norris, dan inosanto, ed parker, he abandoned most of his wing chun practices, cause he was against forms, calling them a classical mess, so why do you waste your time wandering/masturbating over who taught bruce lee, does it really matter, what matters is whos teaching you! so stop masturbating, and start training, its more beneficial than rimming william cheung.

  • @Nephronial Inosanto was a student of Bruce Lee and i think James Lee and Frances Fong and i think 7 other men.

  • @Mider999 Inosanto is a nice guy who doesn't really seem to rock boats. Back when the JKD nucleus sorta turned on Inosanto he didn't try to run roughshod over them he just sorta backed away and went about his business of turning out quality martial artists. He may resepct what W. Cheung can do as a WC teacher, or he may simply be nice. Hard to say with Guru Inosanto.

  • @Nephronial Hawkins Cheung said that he still built upon the system for modern application there are articles in his website you can look it up just search his name. He still teaches in Los Angeles
