  • hi, wat if you have to drink...how do u place or where do u put the knife an fork?

  • my mom got me in trouble for eating with bad manners and now she won't take me to any fancy place..... : P

  • To hell with table manners burp like you mean it slurp like a drain and fart like a fog horn in hell honk honk barf barf woulf it down only the posh dude is the clown hands on the table or your girl freinds lap to hell with manners join the rap

  • Forget this crap,i'm east indian and we eat the proper way-with our hands!

  • Who cares, use whatever means, as long as you can shove stuff in your mouth.

    Lol jk.

  • lol...No offense intended but I was just thinking how the people around here in Missouri would take a lesson like this. Our usual style of eating is to saw off a chunk with our pocket knife and shovel it in. maybe after dipping it in the mashed potatoes and gravy. Does this make us animals? Some people would say so but I think that our values here are just different. It is the people we share the food with that takes presidence over how we eat it. live with love all.

  • Can you please give lessons to the people of Dublin who eat like retarded monkeys?

If you like scooping food into your hand and then putting that food in your mouth or sucking your knife and fingers or holding your knife like a pen or waving your knife and fork around as you speak or stabbing and slashing at your food or chewing with your mouth open then come to Dublin. There are NO RULES here. Do whatever you like at the table except smoke. That's banned

  • @Finkie147 How unfortunate you find Dublin uncomfortable and online ettiquette and intercultural competence what are your views on these? Don't you think manners are really all about kindness in the end? Or are they simply to be disagreeable about?

It seems to make little sense for us to all learn respect, politeness and kind behavouir and then argue over it. It seems hippocrytical for you to criticise what you think are ignorant manners then voice your views so rudely and ignorantly yourself.

  • @Finkie147 I hope i don't sound harsh but i am from Dublin and i was hurt and offended by your name calling and i was reminded that is what manners are for so as not to give offense or hurt others.

  • @lalealynn No offence taken, however I live in Dublin and the table manners here in general are appallingly bad.

  • Why on the earth does she stress that that's the "continental style?"

Although I liked the way she says it a bit awkwardly.

  • @Cryonne Cause there is a American style as well... but I've never heard it being called continental style. Just American vs European dining etiquette.

  • @ZaeroZ

Uh, okay, now it all becomes clear. I didn't know the word "continental" is usually used for the Eurasian Continent, that is European. Thanks a lot, ZaeroZ. My grandpa always told me that wisdom is to know the difference!

  • I agree with Lindo Korchi.....Forget Fork & Knife! EAT WITH YOUR HANDS!!

  • @breadfast91

lindo korchi is right. eat the way you want. drop table manners, hands is my way to.

  • that's pathetic bcoz always eat food with right hands and not with spoons and knifes bcoz to eat with a right hand gives u a blessing and it will digest it calm and makes u relexed so all americans remm that always eat food by hands and use right hand.

  • @darwala WHAT on earth are you talking about? You sirously should cut down on what ever that you are smoking. Eating with your right hand gives you a blessing and calm digesting... Maybe wiping your ass with your right hand will give you a blessing and let you avoid diarrhea and constipation...

  • @Kamelg oh hello Mr left hand is made to use all that thing okie, there are many advantages to eat food with ur right hands its really gives u blessing and all, and please dont talk about smoking i rally hate that, people just ruin by that fucking habbit, anyways research about the advantages of being usage of right hand by food and then tell me then u will understand my comment

  • @darwala well I'm right handed anyway. You can belive what you want, but still your comment doesnt make any sense to me, I mean come on man! Just think about it, there is now logic in that. Does this mean that left handed people are cursed? They dont digest like the right handed people? Plus you must know that left handed people are the 10% of our population, this means that problems with digesting happen more often to right handed people... logic my friend, pure LOGIC!

  • @Kamelg - The logic behind eating with your right hand is simple. There is a structure/order to everything. For many people around the world, the order is that you eat with your right hand (the "clean" hand) and use your left hand for...wiping your ass...couldnt think of a more polite way to say it. :) . You never use your right hand for wiping your ass, and you never use your left hand for eating. But of course, that's for places where eating with your hands is the norm.

  • @MiSSloveish oh but I do know there are places where eating with the right hand is a norm :) It was the blessed digesting that cought my attention. If it's about me, I dont care with witch hand and what people do. My point is: do it as it fits you, and dont say that eating with your right hand is better than eating with your left hand. This would make sense to me if people wouldnt wash there hands after whiping their ass, now this could have a influence on your health and digesting :)

  • @Kamelg - Different religions (i think Islam & Hinduism) believe that by eating with your right hand, you receive more blessings from food. But eating with your left hand, you dont receive any blessings from the food you eat. That's a difference in belief, so of course no point arguing over it. :) . As for the "washing your hands after wiping their ass"...even if you wash your hands, there is a larger chance of bacteria from faeces & whatnot being in the nails of your left hand than your right.

  • @MiSSloveish lol let us close the subject and dont talk about wiping ass, feaces and food anymore xD

  • @Kamelg - LOLLL horrible combination :P

  • In what circimstances is it propper to put your knife in your mouth?

  • Oh please, I'm from Louisiana and we don't eat like this at all. If that were the case, we'd all starve. Pick the food up and eat it, damn it! No one says you have to be a pig about it, but this is a tad bit ridiculous.

  • gah!! this is so hard! i use spoon and fork whenever, whatever i eat, sometimes with bare hand LOL! x_x

  • The American style she refers is stupid..I have never ever used that way..It will take hell of lot of time to finish your food..

  • @ThiliRocks takes longer for me to eat european style... depends on what style you grew up with doesn't it smarty pants!

  • Great video. As far as peas go, it's perfectly acceptable to turn over the fork and push them outward onto the upward facing fork. I wish more people knew how to handle their utensils properly. Great job!

  • Who allow this people to even upload shit like this. Useless video. Fake accent.

  • I kinda understand that it's practical to eat steak this way, but eating rice and peas like that? I rather eat American way than over-complicate.

  • Who the fuck came up with this shit? Who decides the proper way to eat? I eat because I'm hungry not to impress people who nitpick about ridiculous "manners" that are conjured out of nowhere.

  • ahahahaahahahahahahhaahha i do this even before i watched this video

  • Shoving your stuck-onto-your-fork food bits into your mouth is what we in America call "Caveman Dining." How absolutely crass, lazy and disrespectful that you cannot be bothered to turn the fork into a halfway-civilized looking gesture as you lift it to your mouth.

    Good God, how piggish.

  • @cascadejacques: I hate to tell you this but most "americans" I know, eat like cavemen. They do not even know how to properly hold a fork.

Please pardon my poor English and Bon Appétit!

  • @giloz2k Really? You mean like holding knife and fork in stabbing positions and then shoving a hunk of sawed-off meat into your mouth on an upside-down fork held in a fist like an infant or Neanderthal would? Funny, I've only ever seen that embarrassing behavior from my European acquaintances.

  • @cascadejacques RIGHT ON!! I was taught that stuffing meat into my mouth with the tines down would get my head slapped off. I realize that the Europeans eat this way, but I think it looks like you are eating like a toddler when you do this. However, I'm left-handed, so after I cut my meat, I don't have to lay down my knife and switch hands with my fork. I just turn the tines up, take a bite and never have to lay down my knife. It's awesome. Tines should never be down except when cutting.

  • Expert Village has the worst videos. I always find them deeply disappointing.

  • great video....:)

  • In our hands at all times? But in her other video she shows how to put them down properly... what?

  • criss de folle !

  • Finally! This is what I wanted! Learning table etiquette-Continental Style!

  • how to shit in continental way????

  • in england and italy they never eat the pizza with their hands they use knife and fork.

  • thanks I think I got it :D

  • wheres the food dumbo?

  • im my religion,we can only eat wiv our right and,how can I hold the fork then?

  • @manurocks4ever ....i also follow the same religion n i hold it in the right hand

  • Is this how Jesus ate? He was dark-skinned.

  • Só deus sabe como é difícil comer arroz assim!

  • Gutsyndicate Continental MEANS Europe.

escarletcita828 Since when has America been referred to as the Continent? It has ALWAYS meant Europe. So lady in vid saying "This is the CONTINENTAL way of eating" is correct. You both need more education I think.

Fabioperez66 you don't change the folk, you use the left hand - unless you are left handed, then by all means, you have knife in left hand and folk in right.

  • that is not true. that is not the proper way to eat in America. Sorry lady that is the European way.

  • That's because continental is European XD.

  • @escarletcita828 Neither do we eat like that in Germany...

  • what is continental? is there a country called that?

  • Continental refers to European.

  • lol

  • it would have been good if she had food on her plate...

  • would the same technique be used using plastic ware?

  • How the hell can I eat like this withouth changing the fork to the right hand? Jesus...

  • it's not more difficult than driving a manual shift.

  • @Fabioperez66 hey u know what's weird about me? that i'm right handed but i hold the knife to cut with my LEFT hand and the fork with my RIGHT hand.

  • I've eaten like this forever really. This is the polite and proper way to eat.

  • how can i eat food by putting food on that side of the fork---like peas or rice?

a spoon would be easier. geesh.

  • Its really quite easy to eat this way, I guess its just what you get used to. Eating rice is easy enough, best method is stab something like a small piece of meat and then push the loose food, e.g. rice or peas on top.

  • is the back of the fork practical when eating rice?

  • you can use a spoon

  • i never touch a silver fork in my life yet:):)

  • its so hard hahah i tried doing it and i cant take the fork usint it backwards..

  • Sure you can fart at the table, as long as you the only one there...lol

  • how will she even pick up food with the fork backwards? ive tried to do it and its impossible

  • The fork is not backwards. Its not meant to be a shovel. You push the food onto the fork with your knife.

  • i know what u mean.. :P

  • funny, i'm american and have always eaten this way. *headscratch*

  • I grew up in Europe and never heard of it called "continental style". It was simply called table manners.

  • @BehrHunterNH Well in some countries Fork and knife are not used as the main tools for eating. It depends on the culture and the food. For example here in India we can not eat our daily food with Fork and Knife. We use our right hand and spoon to eat because the Indian bread is very thin and it is eaten by dipping it in different curries, lentils and other food items.

But when eating continental food we use fork and knife of course. Except Pizza lol

  • @BehrHunterNH 'merican style is retaurd!!!!

  • @jangun yeah it is kind of ridiculous that you have to eat on the back of the fork... then again its kind of ridiculous to put your knife down before you eat if you got more cutting to do... I agree with jigo53 eat with your hands!

  • @crowamonghens

Still I'm sure there are lots of people in America, and other countries, who don't know yet how to do this properly; this video was meant for them, i suppose.

  • I use bad manners all the time. My gf doesn't give a shit either haha

  • WRONG!

You NEVER use the knife to scoop! If you have to do that (like if you're trying to catch the salad on your fork) you should lay down the knife and help yourself with a piece of bread instead.

  • for chinks!!! lololololl

  • europian country ......i think!

  • why does not she show us how to do it if u wanna drinnk something...like juice or water or whatever?

  • lmao thanks so much

  • thats funny thats how every country eats except this one

  • I hope by " Continental Style" you mean " the right way"

  • the same here in ISRAEL "" continental style""

  • lol...very true

  • MI request permission to downlkoad this excellent presentation.

    Col S Lalvani

  • Continental is a British word which generally means any country in continental Europe, e.g. France, Germany

It does NOT mean Global or international

  • It just means: how to use knife and fork in the places where the use of knife and fork was invented.

Of course if one wants to ask advice about knife and fork from a Japanese, well... that would be like asking advice about chopsticks from an Italian.

  • Look at your companions, or the host, and do as they do. When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

  • das de continental stayol.

  • Majority of people in the world don't use western cutlery - they use own palms - naturally.

  • There are two acceptable ways of eating in the western world. There is the American way, with the tines up, and either hand used to hold the fork, and THIS way (the video). This is the Continental Way, which is used in the rest of the Western world, including parts of Canada, Australia and all of Europe. There are mismannered individuals in all countries. More importantly, ridicule is always considered bad manners. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

  • Stuppi05 for your information American click their finger when wanting service. Refer to people as hey you! and talk with their mouth full. Manners that funny stuppi05 when you can't agree with others views you lower youself to using bad manners, and calling others names. Let me guess you live in white trailor city lol

  • I took a girl out to dinner once, and she was eating like a caveman. Embarrassing.,..

  • Moisofire I am European. So we are alot more formal when it comes to Dinner Etiquette. Funny how Americans have to have videos to learn this? Pity about the family not teaching children and adults dinner etiquette :-)

  • Excuseme, I live in Europe for four years now and MOST OF PEOPLE CERTAINLY DO NOT KNOW ABOUT MANNERS AND PROTOCOL AT THE TABLE. You always boast about it and it has been so surprising for me to see that some do not even make a difference between knife and fork. So better shut up and DO NOT GENERALIZE. Ah!...and I am not american.

  • What i eat with my right hand, is it ok if i hold the fork in my right hand?

  • I'm American but always felt it was sloppy to do the American zig-zag method of using a knife and fork. I practiced the Continental method and it was a lifesaver because I have been to London, Berlin, and parts of Australia where they all do the Continental method so I felt more at home and less insecure.

  • this lady is very good.

  • pretentious baby talk.

  • I agree. "Hold de fork in dix feenga". Hilarious!

  • white peoples cult. who cares if you say this is the civilized way. In my culture this wouldn't be bad but most of the people love to use their hand. I personally use spoon ( never use fork) holding with my left hand( being a left handed) and use spoon being a student of microbiology. Else, i would suggest all of you to use your senses before you would finish your dinner. See, smell, (suggest not to touch, so feel it)and definitely taste.

  • lol, are you filipino? I think that's the only culture that really uses forks and spoons like that. Tell me, do you cut with the spoon? Lol, holler.

  • yes, i cut with the spoon as well since it has sharp edge(i use thin and light spoon) it is not that trouble to cut. I am not Filipino, i am Nepali. I don't like to use my both hands while eating, i love to relax while eating. So i don't get bothered for what others have to think and only thing i keep in mind is to take care of proper sanitation.

  • achalneupane why do you watch etiquette video if it makes you feel so insecure and defensive? Just a word of advice, psssst, I shouldn't flaunt your bad manners if I were you it makes you seem a savage. I should hide them. I wouldn't care to dine with you or your hand eating crew. Dogs Sniff and use their mouths and noses so you may feel more comfortable with them.

  • rofl...agree...:))

  • uhhh...i dont get it!!!

  • It seems that the only thing Americans eat is pizza, with their hands. You can't expect any etiquette from them.

  • mmmmmmm pizza.

  • pizza???? WHERE?!?!?!?

  • many americans have lost pretty much any manners you don't need at a drive thru, however there are still some who know how to eat appropriately. Its the "proper" thing here though to set down the knife and turn the fork so the tines are up right before bringing it to your mouth. Eating the way demonstrated is considered rude. Interesting how things are different.

  • Most American I have seen both here in Europe and the US they never seem to use a knives. They tend to use the fork as a knives for example they turn the fork side ways to cut there food. Worst thing they do is talk with there mouth full.

  • You need to realize that americans have their own customs. The way the women in the video taught is considered inncorrect in the united states.

Do not be so arrogant to think your customs are accurate in every country...

  • Hey, that is a cliche. I have met americans who exactly know how to conduct themselves at the tabe. It depends what kind of people you talk about. NOT ALL AMERICANS EAT AT MC DONALDS, YOU MORON!

  • Americans need to learn how to use a knife and fork and learn some table manners. When ever I go over there it's awful seeing people putting their elbows on the table, slouching over the table, not using their knife, using their fork like a spoon, eating with their mouths open and talking with their mouths full. Horrible and rude.

  • Hear, hear!

  • good

  • This is terrific!!! Thank-you!!!
