The percussive playing towards the end was really nice. You should tab out the slap bass demo that you do in the other video. It's would be great to learn that.
Great lesson, no one ever talks about the comfort and natural feeling aspect of right hand technique. And I loved your Funk Face toward the end of the vid =D
Dude that was just sick :O Really thought that was something, but I still can't get it right.. The slapping is fine but how do i get the string pulling right? Just can't get it :S?
That was so awesome!! I've been a guitar player for a long, long time and I recently purchased a bass (I have dabbled in bass guitar playing) and I wanted to make sure I was doing the correct technique. This video really helped!
i was just wonderin, i like metal/rock more. so could you maybe do something like that and put it up here? cuz this was helpful, but it'd be cool to have a better reference to metalish slap bass.
so when you are hitting the string do you slide below the string for instance when hitting low e when u hit do you tap it then slide down touch the a below it or do you just pull off right away i try and just can't figure out much becuase it looks like you are hiting it from the top then sliding off of it
thanks when said i could sorta slap i mean the E and A stringi can't a sound out of the G string and sometimes a D String but hardly ever P.S i know late replay
Wowzers. I can slap a little bit but I'm sure stuff like this is definetely going to help me with my style. I want to do a jam band side project aside from my somewhat metal band. This will add new dimensions to my playing style plus it sounds B.A. on a Kustom Tuck N Roll :-D
As a bassist and super musician, "very nice" does not quite do it. He is many knotches up from that. This guy is a truly "monster bass player! He is not widely known but, one of the more highly skilled players in pro music today, His background and playing career, and players he has worked with is a testiment of that. His playing level and ability is absolutely amazing.
You got absolute right to make those badass faces. :)

hey i can sorta slap but theres one problem when i slap a string i keep getting caught up with strings above any tips plz ps u kick ass
pisshand050794 3 years ago
well change the angle of the bass as in get the bass closer to your chest or further down
it depends on how you want to slap
mark king has his bass on his chest because his thumb and wrist are parallel to his strings
flea has it low so that his thumb is perpendicular
thats really important
polishpirate123 3 years ago

excellent lesson,
very useful, since most people who pick up the bass want to go to the flashy stuff of slapping.
this lesson focuses on the strong fundamentals that basically support everything.
