Gumi looks like Xion from Kingdom Hearts in this. You know, marigolds are also the flowers of death. I think she was planning to make a difference with the flowers, then kill herself.
I think the songs kind of a representation of how Gumi's suppose to be living in a very uptight society that's forcing everyone to go by the same rules and ways of doing things. And how she jumps out of that strict box (it shows her with a gutar, playing such a rock and roll instrument could b frowned upon by her society) and once she does, she just wants to show others how wonderful it is (the marigold seeds representing her wanting to plant that freedom in others).
I feel like this song is represting how Gumi was feeling unsatisfied with her current life, being the same as others and she wants to be creative, step out of her ritual.. but she is still lost at how to do that without being critasized by others and she is holding onto the marygold seeds which are represting her creativity and she is looking for the oppertunity to 'plant them' and make her creativity bloom just like the flowers can bloom...
To continue, there are many parallels between marigolds, as a flower, and this titular Marygold:
As I mentioned, marigolds have a very disagreeable smell. This trait has been bred out of many variants, which, in turn, parallels the line "this life no-one really cared for". Yeah, nobody cared for Gumi/Marygold because she was different, so she, in turn, tried to "do the same clapping rythms" and fit it. This didn't fit at all, like how scentless marigolds don't ward off insects. (cont'd)
Marygold/Gumi was also very jealous of those who were accepted and termed "normal"; she wanted to be like them and tried to change herself accordingly with varying results; "everytime I sought it, I found it and pulled out fakes". As marigolds symbolize jealousy, that's pretty much given.
She was unhappy with herself, failing to change herself ("not matter what I get, it doesn't fulfill me; I can't reach there"), and eventually fell into a sort of languid, uncaring stupor. (continued)
But marigolds are hardy flowers and, mirroring this, Gumi/Marygold rose above her trails. This Marygold apparently became a singer/other form of celebrity ("[…] the sky filled with melodies" where "that fake voice" (the person/people who condemned her for her differences) cannot reach), in keeping with the belief that marigolds signify creativity. (done.)
Incorrect; while marygolds are also associated with grief and despair, they are also flowers associated with kindness (as indicated by the name marigold ("Mary's Gold"); the Virgin Mary was said to give these flowers to people who did not have any gold), passion, and creativity. Also, it has been widely regarded as a flower of jealousy and has a very… uh, "disagreeable" (disgusting, imo) smell.
I feel like she's trying to say that she was getting caught up in the world, following everyone around her, but never stood out for herself. She realized this, was sad about it, and then finally stood up to it, being her own person in a society where everyone just follows the norm.

@CherryNahme You're welcome. Though, even seeing the English lyrics, the actual meaning still confounds me.
